Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted June 16, 2003 MVP, Coach of the Year, Dave's last year, Energetic bench and role players, Best player in the game. The finals were ugly but the BEST team won. Now, be afraid what 2004 holds as San Antonio is way under the cap and can replace David Robinson and sign two big names as Steve Smith and Robinson will be off the payroll!!! Riverwalk parade in San Antonio on Wednesday!
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted June 16, 2003 This should be in the "One and Only NBA Playoffs" thread. I request a ban, please. (don't mind me, gh. Just Spurs hatin')

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Good, I'm glad the Spurs won fuck Jersey and Kidd
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 16, 2003 All I have to say is that Tim Duncan got a F'N Triple Double. Its best of 7 not best of 5 pass the word to T-Mac. The Spurs will get a parade and get a celebration event at the Alamo Dome.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I'm glad Robinson got to go out on top, and I am a Duncan fan. I wonder if Kidd will go to Texas (I heard he'll be a free agent at the end of the season)...
Guest notJames Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Bob, I share your pain and raise you one. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( I am happy for Robinson, though, for going out on top. In a year where Jordan got all the hype for retiring a loser, while so many others bowed out in the shadows, I'm glad someone with Robinson's class went out with something to be proud of. Guest Tony149 Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I just hope the Spurs do not lose any of the assistant coaches. To be quite honest, the only assistant that stands out is P.J. since he's been a head coach before. The Raptors already picked their new coach, so P.J. should be glad they didn't want him. The other assistants will most likely stick around.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I just hope the Spurs keep Claxton and Jackson now. Speedy could continue playing back up for Parker or worst scenerio could be that he play the Steve Kerr role of the team and sit on the bench forever until he gets called up. Jackson does not really need to be the starter but should stay on the team as the outside shooter just in case Manu gets injuried again.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 16, 2003 But Speedy Claxton is a very good player...not a Tyrone "I came in and held on to/fouled Allen Iverson for 5 games now everyone THINKS I'm good" Lue. He is actually a good player. The only reason he didn't get playing time in Philly was because he was too small to be in the back court with Iverson. While Iverson was hurt, he was routinely putting up big numbers...then he got traded to the Spurs. He is a Free Agent and he will be packing his bags to get more PT on another team next year. Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Forget playing time let him sit on the bench for another ring. It kind of sucks that Speedy will be the odd man out if and when Jason Kidd arrives.
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted June 17, 2003 I don't think Speedy will be the "odd man out" if Kidd decides to go to the Spurs. Some team will probably throw out $3-4 million towards Speedy. If that happens no way the Spurs will pay that much for a back up.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 17, 2003 Speedy was a very important part of the Spurs winning the Championship. He played his role well as the backup, too bad he has to leave.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted June 17, 2003 Congrats to the Spurs. They are the best team this year. And the Spurs are a bunch of nice guys who are very classy. So I am not too heart broken at all. And I am glad it wasn't the Lakers. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that this will probably be a Championship team that people end up forgeting about once the next season starts, sorry to any Spurs fans out there. Please bask in the glory of your team winning it all, you have earned it I think the Spurs were fortunate to not have any key injuries. As key injuries really derailed the Kings and Mavs this season. Tim Duncan is tha man and a real class act. And the supporting cast came though big in all of the Spurs victories. Steve Kerr is one of the most clutch shooters I have witnessed, well besides Michael and Larry and Magic of course. It will be intersting to see who the Spurs sign in the off season. As with all of the other teams.

Tim Duncan is tha man and a real class act. And the supporting cast came though big in all of the Spurs victories. You're right. Lots of attention went to the Kings and Mavs when they lost their best player, but those teams were deep enough (Kings) or able to score lots of points (Mavs) that it could of held them through the playoffs. If Tim Duncan would of gotten hurt in the playoffs the Spurs would of been fucked, like they were when David was gone for the entire 1997 season. Much like David Robinson was during his prime, Duncan is THE man on his team, surround by role players. The big difference between Duncan's Spurs and Robinson's Spurs: Tim has the better all-around role players. There were lots of talk about ratings and how nobody cared about this series. That's true. But either way the Spurs will never get their true respect unless they have guys who can sell shoes or become anti-heros. If the Spurs can somehow repeat, that may be their best shot at getting respect the hardway -- earn it. They're young enough, and they have the money to attempt that very thing. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 17, 2003 (edited) Hats off to the Spurs. The better team won and they deserved the title. Congratulations Spurs Edited June 18, 2003 by bob_barron
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted June 18, 2003 I'm finally going to correct you , Barron. It's "won." I missed the whole Game six and I had no idea they even won until now. Good for Dave to ride out in the sunset, I just hope we see the same for Malone.

They're young enough, and they have the money to attempt that very thing. actually, the 1995 spurs had a really deep squad (chuck person, doc rivers, etc) but david just got manhandled by hakeem and rodman was more of a distraction than he was a helping hand. as for the spurs not being marketable, blame that on the nba. that isn't the spurs fault. instead of believeing the east coast media hype, they could have centered this series around being david robinson's last year... not jordan's (the 3rd time over). they could have emphasized that duncan was the man, not kidd, who deserved the interviews, the commercials, the highlights. they could have emphasized that we were watching history as duncan recorded more blocks than anyone in a finals series since blocks were made a stat (i'm sure bill russell holds the actual record in one of his 11 championship seasons). they could have focused on our international players and what they mean to the nba's future instead of focusing on byron scott and what pat riley means to him. the nba could have started the series a few days earlier when interest was still there. the spurs may not be exciting but that is because of media perception. hell, last year's finals were actually worse from an aesthetic standpoint because there was absolutely zero intrigue despite shaq and kobe being there. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted June 18, 2003 A few thingsI am hoping for now that this season is said and done are A) The east coast teams step up. Seriously, they haven't seriously challenged any teams out of the west. Even if the Spurs didn't make it to the finals this year, I think the Kings, Mavs, and Lakers would've beaten Jersey as well. B) Duncan finally gets talk of being THE MAN. The bar was raised this year and there was no doubt that Duncan was the MVP. I can honestly say that after Duncan's career is over, he may be talked about as the greatest power forward to have ever played the game, period.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted June 19, 2003 well, the title of greatest power forward ever right now would be karl malone but two things differentiate duncan from malone. 1. duncan is a champion. 2. duncan creates his own points. malone had stockton feeding him the ball. i would also like the east to step up but i want them to do it for a different reason. i think the east needs to purge itself of the pat riley-kill your opponent-miami-new york-rival type basketball that has made that conference unwatchable since jordan retired from the bulls. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted June 19, 2003 I think the East's biggest problem is they don't have any power forwards or center's that can deal with the cream of the crop in the west. The Lakers sit on Shaq. The Kings run the offense throught C-Webb and Divac in the high post, the Mavs ride Dirk's coattails (more evident when they lost him in the WCF) and the Spurs ride the Duncan express. The East's top teams have no one that can deal with all that talented size. The Nets ride Kidd and his fast breaking act and 2 years before that it was AI and the Sixers (with no inside talent) representing the east. Here's hoping big men can land in the east so they might win a title in the next 8 years.
Guest gwf0704 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I went to the river parade and it was awesome. Always loved the Spurs and happy they went out on top! The Spurs also dont get much media hype because they are a small market team. San Antonio is the 28th largest city in the U.S. and is not a flashy type of town. The players also dont routinely beat their wives, do drugs, get arrested and beat their chests every time they dunk a ball. Casual NBA fan is just not into that. Rumor has it that J Kidd did not travel with the Nets after the game and actually left Wednesday night after the celebration. Could be that he was watching the parade/celebration in the hotel. GO SPURS GO!!!
