Trade paperback news update

Marvel has released information on the first two GI Joe Trade paperbacks. GI Joe Volumes 1 and 2 will be out this summer, with apparently a new volume coming out each month. Volume 1 reprints GI Joe #1-10 and Volume 2 reprints #11-20. Both volumes are set to cost around $24.95 each.

Titan Books has officially announced that this fall they will be releasing two new Transformers TPB that will reprint the some of the series's impossible to find UK stories. The first trade will reprint the fan favorite "Target: 2006" saga while the second trade "Fallen Angel" collects a series of Galvatron solo stories as well as critically acclaimed "Wanted Galvatron: Dead or Alive" saga that contains the first appearance of Death's Head, Bumblebee's transformation into Goldbug, and Rodimus Prime quest to prove he's hardcore....

Marvel has also announced that they will be collecting the bulk of Jim Lee's run as artist on Uncanny X-Men in a Marvel Visionaire TPB this summer. The collection will contain UXM #248, #256-258, #268-269, #273-277 (UXM #270-272 are not collected since they are a part of the Xtinction Agenda crossover and are already collected). This will be the first time #248, #268, #269 have been collected while #256-258 and #273-277 have been collected in the X-Men: Transformations and X-Men: Crossroads TPBs. The trade's price has been stated to be $21.95, discounted as part Marvel's recently announced plan to drop the prices of their TPBs to more reasonable prices.

New TPBs out:

Magneto: Rogue Nation- In an attempt to salvage the shark-jumping X-Men crossover "Magneto Wars", Marvel has collected it, the prologue for the Magneto Wars, and the Magneto Rex mini-series in a $20 tradepaperback. The prologue and Magneto Rex are good stuff but the Magneto War xover is very much a BAD, BAD, BAD story and launching ground for what has to have been the lowest point of the X-Men franchise's history as the Bob Harras/Mark Powers shadow-writing era begins....

Spiderman vs Venom- Marvel's rereleased this hacked together compilation of Spiderman and Venom's early battles (Amazing Spiderman #300, 316-317 with selected pages from ASM #298,299, 315 included in the book) and kept the $16 pricetage. A decent read but a classic example of how horrible Marvel's tradepaperbacks were over a decade ago...

Xtreme X-Men: Savage Land- A horrible TPB reprinting the horrible X-Men Savage Land mini-series that came out several months back. Avoid at all cost.

Avengers/Defenders War- Collects the 1970s crossover between the Defenders and the Avengers which features the group becoming caught in a diabolical plot hatched by Loki and Dorommu...

I've heard that TFUK is damn good, so I'm looking forward to that.

When you say "hardcore", do you mean FMW hardcore or "I fucked Arcee a lot" hardcore?

Is Titan Books stuff even available here, or do you have to special order them? And I didn't realize that Death's Head originally came from the Transformers. I've seen him in some Doctor Who comics (as well as in other things).

The Titan Books are available in the US, though do to the fact that they have to be imported from Britian to the US for general distrabution in the States, the books are available in the UK several months before they are available in the US.

How does this salvage it?

By sticking a horrible, horrible crossover inbetween two decent stories (X-Men #85 and the Magneto: Rex mini-series) and hyping the book on the strength of the Magneto Rex mini, that is how Marvel is salvaging the X-over since if they released it under the name of "X-Men: The Magneto War", no one would buy it...

That Jim Lee: Visionaries TPB sounds worth picking up. I loved his Uncanny run with Claremont, so I'll probably be getting that when it arrives. I've also been wanting to get my hands on Avengers/Defenders for awhile.

I always thought the Twelve crossover or Claremont's return would approximate the bigger disappointment, but hey, to each their own. I didn't find the Magneto War all that offensive. I liked the artists involved and the actual plot was inoffensive enough. Nothing I'd want to read again, but it set up Mag's status quo and gave Joseph the origin and exit he needed, so I had no problem with it. Admittedly, I have very low standards, since I also found Eve of Destruction to be a fairly good story until the ending, but I don't think that the Magneto War was any worse than, say, the Twelve stroyline.

By the way, Judy, what do you think of the Morrison era? I love it, myself.
