Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted March 28, 2002 Can anyone who's seen the commercial release of New Japan's WWF Jr. Title Tournament tell me if the commentary was redubbed? Durring Dynamite Kid VS The Cobra, Dynamite gives him a tombstone and the commentators refer to it as a "Tombstone Pile Driver". The end of the tape says © 1999. I've always assumed it was named "tombstone" when Undertaker started to get popular, everytime I'd seen it before the announcers's just called the move a piledriver or reverse piledriver. Guest Dace59 Report post Posted March 28, 2002 I guess it may have been redubbed then. Someone should know. Tracing the useafe of some moves names is never easy.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted March 28, 2002 The move was already called a "tombstone piledriver" before 'Taker used it. The WWF just gave him that move because the name was perfect, and he was one of the few guys who could do it well.
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted March 28, 2002 Anyone know how that gimmick name came about? It's very common/popular, been as the only place I've never actually it called it's technical name of kneeling inverted piledriver on any tapes.
Guest McLeary Report post Posted March 28, 2002 I'm not sure, but on a related note was anybody else pissed off by that tape? The three matches that were on it were quite good, but at the beginning it introduced everyone in the tournament, which also included, Kuniaka Kobayashi, BRET HART, the original Black Tiger, and NOBUHIKO TAKADA, among others. All good workers, wrestling in presumably good matches relatively early in their careers, and considering how successful said careers were in some cases, it would've been nice to see some footage, considering the tape was released in 1999. But I'll take what I can get.
