On Carnage, forget the R-Rating...give it an X-Rating or nothing at all. I'm serious...if you try and rate Carnage you wouldn't be doing him any justice, because he defies all standards.

 

As for my addition to the topic, this isn't exactly a movie annoyance, but I recently saw the new X-Men series on Cartoon Network where they're teens or something, and it had Wolverine with his adamantium claws...wha? I just don't see how that scenario could ever possibly exist. Plus they made his voice sound funny. At least he wasn't the focus of the episode.

And are you saying that what Raimi did to Spider-Man is the way it should be? OH BOY. Is that egotistical. He didn't create the f'n series so he has no say as to what would be better for Spider-Man. It is not his creation. Therefore he cannot say "This is the way it should be." And yes he wrote the Evil Dead series. One of the most overrated series ever.

Nobody is saying that. But as far as trasnferring the comic to the movie, the changes were probably right. Who wants to sit through a fun 2 hours only to watch Gwen Stacey's death? Would the Green Goblin really name himself that? It's a pretty crappy name and doesn't exactly instill fear in everyone's hearts.

 

These changes aren't creeping their way into regular continuity, so why care?

How, pray tell, is the Evil Dead trilogy overrated? They're all pinnacle low-budget fare, and show just what can happen when a movie has a low budget and the cast actually gives a fuck.

Well if you or anyone else has it and can scan it in at decent quality, I'd be happy to turn it into an Adobe PDF file and put it in my webspace. I have tons of it...

 

And in keeping with the topic, I think Sam Raimi and everyone involved with Spider Man did an awesome job telling a great, engrossing story. If Stan Lee was happy with how the movie turned out, then I have no gripe at all with Raimi talking about his "vision".

 

The only comic to movie translation I have enough knowledge to talk about is TMNT. And there's lots of weird outerspace kind of stuff left out of the first 2 movies that were in the comic books that followed similar story lines. I guess in a movie with talking turtles, space travel is just TOO far out :-)

Also, the comics were geared towards a more mature audience. The movies were family flicks (the first one being great, the second one being good, and the third one...there is no third one).

 

The Crow is also a good comic-to-movie transfer. I think maybe one detail was changed (in the comic, Draven was a construction worker, although O'Barr admits to never having actually said what Eric's day job was when he was alive). For the most part, the comic remained intact. And wow, a great movie was produced.

I guess you could consider Evil Dead overrated. While they were low budget and didn't make tons of money, they have an insane following, it's probably too big to be cult now.

 

I personally love the movies though.

Because it bored me. I did not find one entertaining aspect in that movie. I almost fell asleep watching it. Is that good enough for you?

In hindsight I wish to apologize for the brashness of my comment. It was sarcastic and mean-spirited. I merely felt that Dam was misjudging Raimi as a whole based on one interview he read a few months back in a comic magazine. And as we all know, magazine interviews should never be considered verbatem.

Am I saying you have to like the Evil Dead series? No. I know plenty of people that don't (of course, these are also the people that thought The Ring was a rip-off of FearDotCom, so take that as you will). The only time I talked to you in a "consdescending" manner was in a more "sarcastic" manner (if you'll note, the largest Evil Dead fanboys are constant 'net users, hence the comment).

 

But does that mean probably the most pivotal low-budget horror movie since George Romero hooked up with John Russo to film Night Of The Living Dead is overrated simply because YOU don't like it? No. It means you don't like it. Doesn't mean a damn thing about the impact of the series, or Sam Raimi's superb directing abilities and tactics.

 

Like it or not, Raimi knows how to make a movie. Just because he took creative license on a few minor details doesn't mean he should be crucified for it.

 

Also, it's not like you never said "well, this is how it should have happened" when talking wrestling. Have you never done fantasy booking? Because Raimi's changes are fantasy booking, only he had the willpower, the money, and the permission to make his booking become a reality.

Besides no one is saying that Raimi's vision was GREAT and PERFECT or anything like that. It worked. He's not re-writing anything that's going to affect regular continuity in the comics. He's simply making an over 30 year old character and story relevant and easier to digest for people who didn't/don't follow the comic. That's all.

 

Didn't mean to piss anyone off, but Dam's first post was just insane. I didn't think anyone could hold something so personal without creating it themselves.

I am going to say it's overrated because I dislike it. I don't like the movie. How hard is that to believe? It bored me and I did not enjoy it. That's about as much as I can give you. I don't see what the big deal is so I think they're overrated.

Maybe Raimi didn't go at it thinking "My vision is better than the original" but I was still annoyed by the interview.

I am a person that feels that a work of art is the creators work and there's alone. I believe that the original is always the best. I mean it's fine to write a fanfic as long as you state "this isn't what really happened but here's what could've happened". I mean Raimi could've done something like that. Because in all actuality his Spider-Man was basically a BIG fanfic. But he seemed in that interview to be saying "this is the way it should've been" which annoyed me.

So I guess all I'm saying is yes it's fine to change it but always remember that if you change it what you're doing isn't the so to say "correct" version and your's will never be the original or be better than the original. And that just because you wrote a fanfic doesn't mean that you suddenly have something on the creator. Which is what I feel Raimi came across as in that interview.

And yes I can hold something I didn't create personally. If I love it like I do then I can hold it very personally.

Oh and I will not retract any statements I made about FUNImation or DBZ. Those people are incompetent fuckwads who really do believe that what they're doing is best for DBZ. And really do believe that there dub is better than the original.
