Theres a kid down the road who is just a plain mark he's about 12 when i asked him what he thought, he said smackdown sucked and raw rules coz it had taker kane and the nwo,

we might think smackdown is better becuase of wrestlers but for rateing and buyrite power raw is miles over smackdown

 

he says he'll only watch smackdown for rock and hogan and though its stupid how a wrestler as sucky as benoit can drafted so high coz "he sucks!"

Well, maybe. It depends what they're trying to do, if they're going to try and make Raw and Smackdown actively different in style and content.

Maybe ratings-wise, Raw is better right now, but how long before that changes? Fact is, look who Smackdown has for draws: Hogan, Rock, Angle, Jericho, Benoit, Edge. These guys are either at the top of their game, have come back for nostalgic reasons and are paying off, or are the next big thing.

 

Now, on the Raw side, you have Taker, who is past his prime; Kane and Big Show, who were never draws; Nash and Hall, who only got a reaction before because they were with Hogan; and X-Pac, who only high up on the card because of politics. The only guy who passes off as a draw on Raw is Rob Van Dam. Even Steve Austin and Triple H can't save this show.

 

Besides, why would you watch one show over the other just because it happens to get better ratings? Bandwagon jumping rulez!!

I think "just a plain mark he's about 12" is the important part.  Also, Rock and Hogan are the two biggest stars the WWF has right now, so that reasoning doesn't work either.  Smackdown has the better roster for everyone except for people like Vince McMahon, who likes guys just because they're 6'6" or taller.

I think Raw will do well if they do a few things:

1.) Send Austin and Triple H to Raw when he loses the title

2.) Make Raw the more edgier of the 2 shows. Most of the ECW wrestlers (Raven, Dudleys, Dreamer, etc.) are on this roster so let them wrestle their ECW Hardcore matches. Paul Heymen is on this side of the roster so let him book the hardcore matches. Being on cable allows them to be more risque then the Smackdown roster so they need to take advantage and do things that they would not be able to do on UPN.

3.) Give Lesner a monster push. This guy looks like the "next big thing" in wrestling. The fans would surely tune in to see him wrestle.

4.) Turn Flair heel. It's always more entertaining to watch a heel have all the power in the company.

5.) Turn Triple H heel. Align him with the NWO to give the angle a big boost which should help attract more viewers. Triple H could then be the top heel again and finish his feud with Austin from last year. Turn Booker T. face to even up the heel/face ratio.

 

Overall I think the Raw roster has enough big names to draw in fans. The big faces of the company being Stone Cold, RVD, Booker T., Kane and Big Show. The main heels in the company being Triple H, Lesner, Taker, and the NWO. The show's audience would mainly be marks but some smarks would probably enjoy the show too with all the ECW wrestlers, Heyman/Flair, Steve Austin, heel Triple H, RVD, and Brock Lesner.

I had something similar to this except it was with a 20 yr old mark. He didn't understand the split and I told him that Smackdown will have wrestling and Raw will be Sports Entertainment it looks like. He then said "Smackdown will suck" when I asked him why he said "NWO and Goldust are on Raw". I know I shouldn't get frustrated but I wanted to be like "Why watch wrestling if you don't care about wrestling? There are plenty of good movies out that will fill your need for Storys". I wish everyone viewed wrestling the way we do, but hey whatever to each his own.

They watch sports entertainment, not wrestling.  Like it or not, this is what the average fan watches WWF programming for.  The outrageous angles, the divas, the Undertaker.

 

I'm glad for the split.  If they do decide to give make Raw and SD two separate styles, then everybody will win.

RAW is an absoulte trainwreck of a show. I hope you like big slow idiots with the mobility of garbage trucks with no wheels as your main eventers. The low card isn't much better either. They could scrounge a hardcore dvision out of it......but what about the other 3/4 of the show? Sigh, I fear the worst with this roster split. I really do.

He's probably right. Listen to the word on the street. I've heard more people talking about wrestling since the nWo showed up since well, EVER. Besides, read WWF magazine and you'll see how many marks there are...

Honestly, don't come down on the guy. My two uncles have said "this thing's not going to be nice anymore like this" and gave neither show a chance. I told them it's basically doing wcw vs. wwf and one replied "if you say so" and the other said "why the hell they breaking it up for". Then my 17 year old sister says that RAW looks better than SmackDown. So, we shall see the trend of viewing habits for the first few weeks.

You have 2 draws on Smackdown:  Rock, Hogan

 

You have 4 draws on RAW:  Taker, Nash, Hall, Kane

 

Each show has tweeners like RVD, Angle, Benoit, Booker T, etc...

 

So, it will come down to what the viewer would rather watch.  The nWo storyline or Rock/Hogan.  I prefer the nWo storyline, and I imagine there are quite a few like me.

 

And anytime I want to see a really good match, I will throw in Hart/Benoit from Nitro 99 and I will be set.
