Eraserhead...

Well, I've seen it a couple times and still have not quite put my finger on what the hell I am watching. Has anyone else seen this? Does ANYONE know what this is about???

No I haven't, but I want to.  None of the video stores around here have it.

I have seen a couple of the newer Lynch movies: Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive.  They are very bizarre and I love them both.  From what I hear, Eraserhead is even weirder though.

Here's a frustrating story: there's only one video store, a Blockbuster, within 50 miles that has a copy of this movie.  I went there, signed up, rented it, and... never got around to watching it.  I caught a horrible case of pneumonia and was in the hospital for a while, and the damn thing ended up being about a month late before I finally broke and returned it.  I can't go back there now, having approximately 4.3 billion dollars in late fees.

I'm not completely stupid, however, as I did make a copy for myself before I took it back.  However, the copy is so dark and grainy that you can't see ANYTHING.  I could weep.

I have indeed seen it, though it was about five or six years ago, and I thought it was great, even if I think I didn't totally grasp the story then. But then again, I find surrealism fascinating, so that may have something to do with my take on the film. I really have to rewatch it though, to see if my opinion of it has changed over the years.

Eraserhead is like one of those freaky nightmares you get which dont make any sense.David Lynch has always made films which baffle people but they are too good to be dismissed as just 'self-indulgent rubbish', as some critics would argue.'The Straight Story' proved that he could make a great film without being strange or playing with peoples minds.Eraserhead is an important film and a very enduring piece of art.The only Lynch film that didn't do anything for me was 'Wild at Heart', which was quite shallow overall.

I'm just now getting into David Lynch movies, but damn, Blue Velvet was great, in a really freaky way.  Dennis Hopper's the greatest crazy villain.

I think Lynch is wildly inconsistent from movie to movie.  I really liked Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, and Lost Highway, but have NO problem dismissing Wild At Heart, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and Industrial Symphony #1 all as self-indulgent rubbish.
