If the subject is Wrestlemania and MSG, why not pick Bret/Owen from X? I know Sheik/Backlund was historical for the finish, but Bret/Owen was a classic.

Bruno Sammartino's reign back about 20 years earlier lasted from 1963-1971

Funny how Hogan fought the Shiek and won the title from him because Backlund couldn't do the match = P

I think the funnier Hogan thing was that he was in a tournament in Japan and was scheduled to lose in the finals to Antonio Inoki...but Inoki got KO'd out of the ring and Hogan won by default.

Backlund was coaching Angle in 2000, but turned on him at Mania when he revealed he made the triple threat match for both titles.

Unless it's Montreal...Bret gets NO air time and LIKES it.

Good selling by Backlund...but I'm literally yawning sitting here in my seat.

And I've never seen this match, other then the finish.

Boring.

Backlund got a taste of his own move, the Crossface Chickenwing, from Angle for doing that. :D

That finish sucked. I figured Backlund would've been in the hold a little longer before he threw the towel in.

I appreciate and usually like the older WWWF-WWF stuff (Bruno), but Sheik is just boring.

One good thing came out of that, Backlund's AWESOME heel turn in 1995(?). Really good continuity there when Backlund snapped on Arnold and put the chickenwing on him.

it had Chuck Norris

Okay, but overall it sucked. JJ getting kicked by Norris was hilarious.

I didn't think the Sheik/Backlund match was boring. Sure, maybe compared to today's matches it could be seen as boring. But the match was crisp and clean (with no caffeine) It had a lot of psychology and no blown spots.
