Guest alfdogg Report post Posted March 30, 2002 I was just stating my point of view. But you had to get smartass about it. So now I have to defend my point, which I don't really feel like doing, but here: First of all, he DID get back in the ring. If you're healthy enough to crawl from the announcers table to the ring with a bad quad, then you're healthy enough to lay down for three seconds. Not only would they be elevated by it, but it would be easy sympathy heat for "your boy." And I think a win over HHH would elevate them just as much as a win over Austin. Guest Report post Posted March 30, 2002 "First of all, he DID get back in the ring." He did? I think I may actually remember that. He was trying to break up the three count right? "If you're healthy enough to crawl from the announcers table to the ring with a bad quad, then you're healthy enough to lay down for three seconds." I was a bit harsh earlier. I still think it is absolutely ridiculous though. I guess STone Cold should have lain there for a minute or two after he beat Owen Heart (the match where he wrecked his neck and was paralyzed) so that Own could kick him around a bit more since heels like to do that when they lose. It is just silly man. "Not only would they be elevated by it, but it would be easy sympathy heat for "your boy." And I think a win over HHH would elevate them just as much as a win over Austin." They definitely would have been elevated, but as much as by pinning Austin? I do not know about that. Austin was the world champion at the time. Pinning the champ is pretty much as high as you are going to go. Austin also happens to be the biggest star in the WWF and has been for a long time. Pinning him seems a bit more prestigious then pinning Triple H. I think the storyline would have worked a bit better if they had pinned Triple H because then they could play up the whole 'we took out one guy from the two man power trip and now we are gunning for the other one' angle, but asking an incredibly injured man to hop into the ring to lay down for the three when the other guy on his team is every bit as over (much more so in my opinion) is just down right silly. Take my opinion for what it is worth.
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted March 31, 2002 IT's ok, no hard feelings. Your post is understandable, but I do have to say that there is a difference between a torn quad and a broken neck. And HHH DID have a clean win over Austin under his belt, and that's why I said it would elevate just as much. Not many people get a clean win over Austin, either. As a heel, I think HHH was definitely just as over, if not more.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted March 31, 2002 HHH was more over as a heel...because all of Austin's heel reign last year was shaky at best. (with the exception of a few moments that I recall him getting soundly booed with the Alliance, mainly during the RVD vs. Austin confrontations) HHH loses so infrequently (and people like to complain about how the Rock needs over booking to lose...look at how many ref bumps/interference/fast counts etc...there were in the No Way Out match in order for HHH to put over Angle) that any win over him is a big deal. Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted March 31, 2002 I agree that HHH was just as over as Austin was as a heel if not more so. However, I think the original plan of the WWF was that they would have singles matches with Beniot and Jericho at KOTR....and then end up feuding with each other by SummerSlam, with HHH as a face. The fans wanted to cheer HHH......as evidenced by the night he joined Austin. When he came out all pissed off, he got a huge pop, til he turned. Back to the match...HHH hits Austin with the sledgehammer and they lose the belts. Austin blames HHH, but doesn't turn yet....eventually something would have happened and Austin would have turned on HHH, turning him face. But alas, the quad injury occurred. This is why Austin layed down and not HHH, it was important for the future storyline. Dames - Sledgehammer of Plot
