Guest Report post Posted March 28, 2002 I was wondering if anyone knew what the situation is with Backlash here in the UK. I read a while ago that Channel 5 had bought the rights to it (along with the other PPV's Channel 4 used to show) but nothing since. I was wondering is it going to be shown on Sky Box Office as a PPV again or what?
Guest muzanisa Report post Posted March 28, 2002 Someone wrote a reply from Channel 5 that they got. The gist was that they haven't got it yet but are looking into it and broadly hinted that they would have it. This is the exact same reply they gave before Rumble so take that for what it is worth. I heard that MTV over here was showing Heat as well; has anyone seen that in the schedules? Also Sky One have started showing UFC bouts at ten O'Clock on Thursdays with no promotion and that's worth checking out even if it is out of date.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted March 28, 2002 I read that negotiations between Channel 5 and WWFE had broken down. I think Sky will probably run Backlash anyway.
Guest muzanisa Report post Posted March 28, 2002 Yaeh and expect us to pay for it. How dare they expect us to pay for Pay Per Views!
Guest Metallica Report post Posted March 30, 2002 How dare they expect us to pay for Pay Per Views! lol Maybe we should complain to Sky
Guest muzanisa Report post Posted March 30, 2002 It is going to be on Box Office apparently for £15.00. I bought Rumble but unless there is a Benoit comeback or RVD gets a shot at the title I won't be getting it.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Report post Posted March 30, 2002 Yeah, Sky Box Office has picked it up. I am surprised that so many people bitch that they have to pay for it. Look at it this way: Sky have been with the WWF for a long time (since 1992 I think). This includes the terrible times of 1995 and so on when the product was terrible. Then the WWF gets popular. Sky's contract comes up and the WWF looks at trying to get on free network television here in England. So they come to a $35m 5 year deal with Sky, and also managed to con Sky out of Heat (they never had an interest in that anyway) and 4 PPV's. Channel 4 completley butcher the WWF shows and drop out of the deal after two years. Sky have every right to still be pissed at the WWF, but because of the fans offer us a chance to watch the shows as long as we pay for it so they can cover any loses. I'll be paying. Guest muzanisa Report post Posted March 30, 2002 I agree, because of Sky (who I think have been showing the WWF since the mid - 80's) I think we get more WWF programming here than anywhere else in the world. Channel 4 were the worst thing that happened to that> They didn't know what they were getting and the first PPV they showed had the Mae Young topless angle and a blade job and the executives freaked and decided to not renew the contract and buried Heat to the graveyard slot or just didn't show it. As a result one year later as well as paying £30 a month for Sky Sports we have to pay another £60 a year to see what we got for free a year ago. I understand that Sky are pissed at the WWF but the only people who are made to suffer are the viewers. The reason I'm not buying Backlash is there aren't that many things in the WWF right now that I'd pay to watch. I reckon from the four that went to Channel 4 the only one that I'll pay for year in year out would be the Rumble. Others I'll watch if the card looks good. Guest WWF4Life Report post Posted March 30, 2002 Don't you guys in the UK have Insurrextion coming up as well? That's a bit of a risk, asking you guys to pay for two PPVs in the space of three weeks.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Report post Posted March 30, 2002 Yeah, it is at the start of May. I been to every UK PPV from Capital Carnage in 1998 - Insurextion in 2001 - I finally had enough with the glorified house shows where the WWF cares so much as to even run US house shows at the same time... I reached the 'ultimate' this year with WmX8, and so missing Insurextion is no big deal. They will charge slightly less than £14 for it, I think. But you are right, it will be interesting to see if they take a hit because of Backlash.
