I can't stand Spider-Man.

Superman is so much better than Spider-Man.

Spider-Man would get a negative rating...and therefore I cannot put into word how many times better Superman is without creating a bigger negative number.

Everyone who likes Spider-Man is dumb.

I hate to be so blunt...but that is the only explanation that can exist at this point.

I guess 44% of us are idiots then.

Seriously, why do people make such a big deal about movies? It's just a matter of taste. I didn't like the Hulk, but I don't think that those who did enjoy it were morons.

cause it's so much more fun to talk in hyperboles.

and i hope by "the original" batman he didn't mean the one with adam west & burt ward. cause then i have to take back my vote.

I don't really understand all the Spiderman love either. I thought Blade 2 was a much better movie than Spiderman and it was only a cool but mindless action flick. The acting was extremely stiff, the Green Goblin outfit looked like something from an episode of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and it had the worst fight scenes of any major action movie in history. The only really good things about that movie was Sam Raimi's direction and a good story arch that melded a bunch of the best things from the comics. And Maguire while might have the look and geekiness of young Parker down, he never showed his whit or confidence.

The Crow and The Storm Riders are simply the best comic book adaptations, from character down to costume down to action. Particularly The Storm Riders, which just blew audiences away with its depiction of uperhero fight scenes.

X-Men 2 is probably next after that, edging out Spider-Man because it didn't take huge liberties and with the character history (well it did, but you know, not to the objectionable level that Spidey did).

Blade and Blade 2 are great movies, but I really don't think they qualify as great comic book adaptations, since there seems to be a wild belief that the Bladecomics were good to start with, when they were largely shite. Thus, if the films were faithful adaptations, they would have been shite too. So I think they're better regarded as standalone action films than comic book films.

JMA seems just a bit obsessive in the "there has never been a good live action Batman film" department.

He's incorrect.

Batman Returns had everything the best arcs of the comics had: dark gothic imagry, psychological subtext (each villain was really a part of Bruce Wayne/Batman's psyche, so when he was fighting them he was really fighting his own inner demons), the focus was kept ON BATMAN not the villain, and it had one of the best romances in a comic book film, an AMAZING score, an improved performance by Keaton (who seemed far more confident then in Batman), they even laid the ground-work for an improved relationship between Gordon and Batman (Batman consults Gordon after the opening action sequence, Gordon is confident of Batman's innocence), not to mention Michelle Pfiffer as Catwoman.

In my opinion, Batman Returns and Superman 2 are the best comic adaptations. Interestingly enough, the average film-goer will almost certainly say Batman or Superman. Only the Internet crowd has a problem with them.
