Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted June 22, 2003 I only ask because I'm very much at the end of my fuckin rope with my hypocritical bitch of a manager. The facts, ladies and gentlemen, are thus: - She got the job because of connections to our Area Manager aka her boss. She previously worked with him and he hired her. - 3 months ago, she hired somebody she used to work with at her previous job, let's call him Tom. Now, Tom was hired at a higher position then most of the people I work with. Why? Nobody knows. He has no movie/video expirience and frankly, isn't that great of a worker. Really, really nice guy but the fact that he didn't earn his position doesn't sit right with me. - About a month ago, Tom went to pick up weed on his break from one of his dealers. Now, it was his break time (half hour) so he could do whatever he chooses in that time. But he didn't. He took an hour and a half. The guy he happened to be closing with was, understandably, very fuckin pissed off and told my manager about the incident. I was there and I know for a fact that Tom smoked a joint before going back into work and my manager is also fully aware of that. Was Tom fired? Nope. Suspended? Nope. Written up? Nope. He was given a "stern" talking-to. - As a side-note, one of my supervisors (who is now my Assistant Manager) went with Tom to pick up the weed. The Asst. Manager wasn't working at the time but he never once told Tom to go back to work or to grab the weed some other time. So here is where I stand: My manager didn't, at all, punish Tom when she full well knew the following: - He took an extra hour on his break. - He used that time to pick up illegal drugs. - He was under the influence of that drug when he came back to work. Somehow I get the feeling that if it was me that had picked up the weed, I'd be out of a job right now. So, what do I do? I realize that blackmail is a very, very bad thing to do and it could easily come back to bite me in the ass, but I've fuckin had it. I know that weed isn't a big deal or anything but the fact is that Tom knew he shouldn't smoke up and go to work and he did. My manager knew full-well (and this is straight out of our company policies) that anybody caught under the influence of drugs or alcohol at work is subject to immediate dismissal. So, thoughts, suggestions? Ever blackmailed anybody at work? If so, how did it go? Thanks, LOTC
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted June 22, 2003 Get another job. Crap like this (though it takes other forms than just drugs) goes on all over the place. Also, if you do something about this and nothing happens to your bitch boss and her underlings, then the rest of your stay at your place of employment will be short and miserable... Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted June 22, 2003 I don't see how nothing could happen, though. Company Law is on my side in this one. It's very clearly marked out that anybody under the influence is out, no questions asked.
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Get another job. Even if you're successful with this, the manager's gonna have her eye on you and will probably be looking to can your ass at any opportunity. I'll miss the diary of a porn store clerk though... Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Oh, don't worry about that, I have enough info stored up to have the diaries to continue for a long while.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Go with the blackmail. Two wrongs DO make a right. The ends justify the means. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.
Guest Texas Small Arms 09 Report post Posted June 23, 2003 I say go to someone higher and tell'em what's going on. And if you can't, leave and tell'em off as you leave. I could blackmail my boss considering all the shit I have on her. But then again I could also go with my original idea and get rich off of it by making a movie about her. So one day I will do that. Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted June 23, 2003 TSA- Going to my Area Manager wouldn't work, as he's the one who hired the bitch in the first place. I'd have to go to his superiors, who, oddly enough, my dad has connections to.
Guest Texas Small Arms 09 Report post Posted June 23, 2003 I would seriously think about it. If you like your job and want to keep this one I would go to someone higher in the company. That way they know and that you don't have to worry about that bitch watching you because she will be worried someone is watching her ass.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted June 23, 2003 My company has a 1-800 line for anybody that wants to deal with a problem in confidence. The hotline isn't run by my company so I could try them and see how it goes.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 23, 2003 You know, I've been at this job for about three and a half weeks now, but I've only got one story involving the porn room. I need more entertaining customers.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 23, 2003 My job doesn't have interesting customers. Just burly older women and a crazy guy.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted June 24, 2003 (edited) On an interesting sidenote, while smoking a joint after work tonight with Tom and my assistant manager, I got the "you have so much potential" talk about how I was holding myself back. I snapped and proceeded to unload 3 years of HHH-style being held down on their asses. I think they know where I stand now. Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted June 27, 2003 DON'T QUIT your job until you have something else lined up. Burning bridges is never a good idea, no matter where you work. You're going to have to put up with political BS no matter where you work. For instance, just today, I was made the scapegoat for something that never went wrong. Doesn't make much sense, I know. It all started when someone lied to the boss about me and the woman I work with is a non stop chatter box. Somehow, this equation meant that I haven't been doing my job. However, I proved to my boss that I am on top of my work, but as you know, management is ALWAYS right, and my point was disregarded and she threatened to take it up to a higher authority if I didn't get 'on the ball.' Oy! However, I'd never quit just because I feel uncomfortable. Keep the pay checks coming, and I'll shoot all the awkward glares in the world to my boss until my dismissal. Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted June 27, 2003 Ah, the "on the ball speech". I get that almost everyday, even though they are in for a serious reality check if my interview goes well on Monday.
Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted June 27, 2003 I have similar problems LOTC. I've working as a fry cook/dishwasher at a Friendly's (depends on the day) and on my dishwashing day, the morning washer, a friend of the manager's son, who also works there, leaves a HUGE fucking mess to clean up. Plates all over the room, ice cream all over the place, wet napkins and food refuse clogging the sinks. Man, I was PISSED. Took me almost two hours to clean it up, on top of the dishes that were also coming in. And of course, the kid/guy will never get fired.
