Guest kingkamala Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 Last night on the Klitschko/Lewis broadcast, George Foreman promised if Klitschko won he'd get back into the ring. Foreman said that the doctor said he's physically able to fight and that's he's getting bored. The question is could Foreman still be competitive? I honestly believe Foreman could beat at least 50% of the current heavyweight contenders. As evidenced by his past fights, the man is damn near impossible to knock down and is a fucking tank. This generation of heavyweights is the weakest it's been since the early days of Mike Tyson's title reign, I believe the 55 year old Foreman at the very least would create interest and drum up buyrates. And think of all the potential dream fights for all the casual boxing fans, Foreman-Tyson, Foreman-Holmes, etc. So could George Foreman still fight and if he did, what impact would he have on the heavyweight division?
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 I don't think he could be any threat to the top 10, but he could still win matches. He's a damn fool to come back though. I can't think of anyone else who's boxed as long as George and not suffered any serious damage or speech problems. He should quit while he's ahead.
Guest NoCalMike Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 well I think Larry Holmes and Roberto Duran are still fighting on some level, so yes he could still box, but he pretty much admitted he would hand pick opponents. Oh and he is a dumbshit for thinking he could get in the ring with Vitali, oh well his funeral.
Guest kingkamala Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 If Foreman fought Vitali, I don't think Vitali would knock out Ol' George out but he would beat the drizzling shit out of him for 12 rounds.
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 If Foreman got into the ring with Vitali, he WOULD get knocked out and probably worse. If he actually by some miracle lasted 12 rounds with him, it would do nothing but fuck his brain up worse than it is and probably shorten his life span considerably.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 George would get knocked out, that's no question. It was amazing how good he still was a decade ago, but those days are over.
Guest Nanks Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Well you never know, he does eat lots of fat-free grilled meat...
Guest Choken One Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Foreman is worth 200 million... Dont risk it george... Just get Holmes and throw him around and smile and leave forever.
Guest alkeiper Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Foreman vs. Butterbean could be entertaining.
Guest kingkamala Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 I don't really want to see Foreman risk his health against a guy like one of the Klitschkos or Lewis, but I would like to see him against Larry Holmes or someone like that. Hell I think Foreman-Tyson would be a hell of a fight if it went down. I just want to see Foreman have a proper farewell fights, which is something most boxers never have. Getting "beat" by Shannon Briggs is certainly no way to end your career.
Guest Choken One Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Tyson is likely more dangerous then Klitchsko... I mean Klitchsko would take it lightly and think of it as a spar round... Tyson will head hunt the old man.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 It's sad that he is even considering to fight again. The man is 55 (I think) and should concentrate on making new variations of his grill not fighting.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 He'll get in the ring and have a couple boring fights against nobodies, or else he'll get maimed by a contender.
Guest kingkamala Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 My final verdict is let him go in the ring. Foreman is obviously bored shitless with retirement and boxing wants him back cause let's face it, nostalgia sells(Why else would they be selling Larry Holmes fights on PPV).
Guest Vyce Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Foreman is becoming, I suppose, the boxing equivalent of Terry Funk. I hope the analogy doesn't prove entirely, true, as I wouldn't want Foreman to wind up have as fucked as Terry. Would he be able to compete with the top fighters? I don't believe so. But would I watch the man have another go in the ring? Absolutely. I'm a big fan of George. And his grilling machine.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Foreman vs. Butterbean could be entertaining. Butterass couldn't beat Holmes, who's a complete joke now. George would whoop him.
Guest alkeiper Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Foreman vs. Butterbean could be entertaining. Butterass couldn't beat Holmes, who's a complete joke now. George would whoop him. I didn't say it would be competitive, just entertaining.
Guest NoCalMike Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Wlad fought Ray Mercer before his Loss to the Cory Simon guy. He didn't knock out Mercer but he pounded his head for 10 rounds. I am sure Ray Mercer lost a few years off of his life because of that fight. What does George Foreman need to prove? He should just stay retired and keep up the pbp for HBO.
Guest alkeiper Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 The thing people forget about Foreman is that he never took a tremendous amount of punishment during his career. He retired the first time earlier than most fighters. I don't think he's putting himself in significant danger if he fights.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 He barely even got hit much, until Ali beat him. He just manhandled people like a gigantic unstoppable hitting machine.
