Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted June 23, 2003 (edited) This is my own stupud fault, but I never installed any virus scanning software on my computer when I got it 2 years ago. So anyway, I notice my computer is acting stupid (I have 2 CD drives, a DVD and CD-RW), and the CD-RW drive kept acting like there was a CD in it and it would run and totally kill my system resources (100% maxed out on the task manager). I closed every process I had running that I could without shutting down the computer. Nothing was working. So I restarted the computer, and quickly found one of those free virus scan online sites. It found a godamn keylogger virus. Now, Im all pissed off that someone could have my passwords and credit card numbers. I read about the specific virus and it seems that its not as harmful as it sounds but theres still the possibility that someone could get the information. And the stupidest thing is that my CD-RW drive is still on the fritz, and I also have about 5 other viruses..but ridding the computer of them hasn't fixed the CD-RW drive yet. EDIT: I went and did a system backtrack with XP back a couple days and the CD-RW drive is behaving itself again. That was getting annoying though, and I couldn't figure out what was causing it (I might not find out what was causing it). I guess it was a good thing that it got me spooked enough to run a virus scan. Im definitely getting some virus scan software after this episode. Im just trying to figure out whether or not I need to change passwords and report my credit/debit card as being "compromised". Guest MrRant Report post Posted June 23, 2003 You can download some good free virus scanning software from www.grisoft.com. I use the AVG and it works really well.
