Guest Gatornibs Report post Posted June 23, 2003 My comp keeps saying "Operating system not found" and make a weird noise right before it says that (It comes from the hardrive). After it says that it's impossible to get it to work. WHY? Also sometimes it says Unable to read C drive even though there's nothing in the C drive, and then my comp shuts itself down for some reason. Does ANYONE know the cause of this. Please email me at [email protected] I'll be very grateful

Guest DrTom Report post Posted June 23, 2003 I've found that's almost always a hard drive problem, either physically or logically bad. If you're lucky, Safe Mode (or Last KNown Good Configuration in NT-based systems) can get you back in to run Scandisk (or chkdsk). If that doesn't work, then your hard drive may very well have given up the ghost. Of course, if there's nothing on your C drive like you said, there won't be an OS for BIOS to hand operations off to. Unusual noises coming from the hard drive are rarely good, though.
