Columbia House DVD actually IS a great deal...

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

Last week, I decided to attempt this club. I've heard all sorts of bad things about it, mainly from my parents and others such people. Well, even so, I just dove right in and tried it for myself, and I must say that I am 100% pleased.

When I signed up I used the 23E code, which states that you can get five DVDs free (you don't have to pay the 49 cents which is what you get when you don't use this code) and you get free shipping (It's usually $2.99 for the first DVD, $1.99 for the rest...I believe). After doing this, you have to buy three more within the next three years at the price of $19.99+. It also gave you the option to get any other DVD right then and there for $14.99 with only two more to buy in the next two years, and also the option to buy another one at $9.99 right then and there with only one more to buy.

I went with the original five, and also picked one up for the $14.95 price.

After that, I was set. I got the DVDs less than a week later, and I only had two more to buy in the next two years at the price of $19.95+. Well, today they have a deal where you get free shipping when you buy 3+ DVDs, and I went ahead and did that. Since it was my first online order, I also got $5 off of my overall order. They also had a deal where when you buy a DVD for $19.95+, you can get any other DVD for 50% off. I bought two today for $19.99 and then got another brand new DVD for only $9.99.

Now that it's all said and done, I've now got nine DVDs from CH, which came out to only $7.10 for each DVD. That is one hell of a deal, I just can't believe it.

Forget what I've said in the past guys. If you do CH the right way, really pick and choose when you order, etc... You can get a great deal, just like this. I'm pleased, that's all. I just wanted to share this with all of you.

Especially Mole (even though I don't think he posts here at all for right now), as I told him over and over that CH is just for suckers, lol.

As far as them sending DVDs to you automaticly, they apparently do not do that anymore. You no longer have to fill out a card and then send it back to them, or any of that bullshit. They send you an email letting you know what the "Director's Choice" of the month is, or you can just check it out on the site, and you can just click on "No/Don't Send" or something like that on the website, and it's now automatic.

I can now cancel this account, and start another one whenever I want. I can't wait untill I have a full time job, lol.

The DVDs that I got, if you care, are Speed: Five Star Collection, Carrie: SE, Jerry Maguire: SE, Unforgiven: SE, Citizen Kane: SE, Walking With Dinosaurs, The Hours, Phone Booth, and There's Something More About Mary.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Damn DH, you gotta pull the "get your free DVDs then never respond to anything they send you" move.

I got me like 10 free VHS tapes back in the day because of that.

Phone Booth? How the hell did you get Phone Booth? It's not even out on DVD...

I haven't got the last three yet, I just ordered them today. Phone Booth and Mary are pre-orders, to be shipped the day they release.

There's Something More About Mary? WTF? Is this some sort of bastardized direct to video sequel?

I believe he's referring to the upcoming SE for There's Something About Mary.

So that's probably the name of the SE or a typo.

Columbia House DVD Club does make you save...if you play your cards right you could end up averaging about 13 bucks a DVD or less.

Well, it's called There's Something More About Mary, it's the name of the DVD.

Yep, you can get them for $7-$7.50 each if you do it how I did. Hell, I even found out they have a deal every so offten where it's buy five DVDs for $25, with nothing more to buy ever.

This is truth. I've never used these things, but have a good friend who swears by the Columbia House CD offer. If you buy a lot and often, Columbia House is indeed a good deal. He averages 6-8 bucks apiece for new CDs, including shipping. Just has to buy a lot of them.

That freedvds.com thing sounds like a lot of work! I’m not sure about all the canceling and signing up for stuff…

Yeah, it's not for everyone. If you don't want to keep up with records and everything, then don't do it.

I'm very carefull though, and I'm getting tons of great deals. I just signed up at another free DVD site (freedvd4me) and I have already got Gangs of New York for free (to be shipped within 4 days of it's release).

Thus far I've got around $200 in free DVDs, with only around $10 total coming out of my pocket, so I'm pretty pleased.
