"Mama Said", obviously, but "The God That Failed" is also about his mother in a way - she refused medication, I believe, as she was a very religous woman. I'd say "Outlaw Torn" is about his mom too, actually. I have a question though - Can someone tell me what "Vera" from Pink Floyd's The Wall is supposed to mean in connection with the rest of the album? I've heard it suggested that Vera Lynn is the name of Pink Floyd's (The character, not the band) mother. Or perhaps it could be the name of his wife? I honestly can't remember off the top of my head WHICH war it was that his Dad died in, but I'm pretty sure that it was WWII (Which would make sense, because I don't recall there being tanks in WWI. And there's that scene in the movie The Wall where Young Pink sees a train totally FULL of people - I've always assumed that it was supposed to be Jews on their way to the camps.) Vera Lynn was the forces sweetheart in WWII. She basically symbolised home to troops stationed away from home. She also, in many ways, depicts the era. Rogers Report post Posted July 6, 2003 Now you want to talk Beatles and hidden meanings, well we can have a field day with just all the "Paul Is Dead" shit through the years, even songs that were written during the Beatles days in Hamburg (1962ish) like "I'll Follow The Sun" ("One day you'll find that I have gone/but tommorow may rain so I'll follow the sun...) have been considered "clues" We can talk all we want about drug songs such as Lucy In The Sky, prostitution such as "Day Tripper" or homosexuality "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" (it was written for Brian Epstein, the Beatles manager who was gay) songs that you have to look closely at the lyrics to see what the hell the author is saying "I Am The Walrus" or songs that started out as one thing, then ended up meaning different things to different people like "Hey Jude" (Started as "Hey Jules" for Jullian Lennon then could be construed as Paul giving himself an okay to try to hit on Cynthia Lennon (not sure if Linda was in the picture yet) and John construed it as Paul giving him and Yoko his blessing) Steve Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

That's the great thing about Lou Reed. If you're stumped by one of his songs, you can just say "It's about heroin, right?" and chances are you're absolutely correct.
