Jagr to the Rangers? Maybe?

Recommended Posts

Guest redbaron51

Earlier this week, its been rumored that Jarimor Jagr has been traded to the New York Rangers, for Petr Nedved, Matthew Barnaby, and another young kid who's name I forget.

Today though, TSN.ca confirmed that this trade has never been done, and none of the players were actually aware of this.

I've read a lot of rumors about it, and Pierre MaGuire said at the draft that he thinks Jagr is going to be dealt before the start of next season.

My favorite player, and my hometeam, and yet all I can mutter is "please for the love of god no".

Have they learned nothing from the last two years!? Are they looking to set a record for most players who are past there prime on one team? Jagr's incredible, but his best is behind him, how about investing in someone who costs one third of what he does and can produce in the future? Does that sound crazy?

The Rangers have stated they aren't interested in Jagr at gis time, due to his INSANELY LARGE slary, and their current fincancial strain. i believe the term used was 'tightening of the belt'.

But Real Madrid said they were'nt going to pursue Beckham, so I guess we'll see.

Jagr will be dealt and the Rangers probably will be the team that picks him up. Again, this is quite like the Joseph situation in where he'll be gone to another team before the end of the season but you've gotta figure out which two teams (Rangers or Flyers) are willing to pick him up. If someone else goes after Jagr and lands him, I'll congrat that team.

I wouldn't say Jagr's past his prime. He just turned 31 and his skills have not at all deteriotated. I also would never say that he was consistently the best player in the league despite the fact that he won 4 straight Art Ross'. One thing that Jagr had in his favour was free reign in regards to opening up and playing offensively. He had a very strong (offensive talent wise) cast on his line in Pittsburgh and the team played a system favourable to Jagr, at least when he was out on the ice.

He's never seemed comfortable in Washington. Jagr hasn't been given the opportunity to open up as much and has never seemed to click with anyone on a consistent basis. I think Jagr has also been hampered by a lot of recurring injuries which have really limited his effectiveness.

What Jagr needs even more than a change of surroundings is some serious time off. If he did this he would be capable of coming back and winning scoring titles.

The thing the Rangers (and Glen Sather) are finally starting to realize is that there very well may be a hard cap set in place come the new CBA. They cannot have all these high priced talents on their roster at that point or they are fucked. It has nothing to do with what it will cost them this coming season.

Stickling point of this deal is the Rangers want to move Lindros and his bloated salary.

He's got 3 million base, and it pretty much shoots up to 9 million just for showing for a few games. His performance bases are ridiculously low.

Unless Lindros is moved or allows his salary to be restructered, Rangers won't pick up Jagr's 11 million.

As a C®apitals fan, I would welcome that trade. A shame it probably won't happen. It's not really Jagr's fault that he hasn't lived up to expectations, since the Caps don't run an offense like the kind he had in Pittsburgh, but I'm still tired of seeing them pay $11 million a year for someone who's been good but not great.

Jager was a baby in Pittsburgh, and I have welcomed his career going downhill ever since he left the Pens...

But you still get Lindros who hasn't been the same since Scott Stevens almost killed him in the playoffs for almost 9 million.

I'd rather have Jagr at 11 million because at least the chance is there that he can have a big year. Lindros ceased being effective 3 years ago. Also, Jagr helped the Caps get into the playoffs, while Lindros was on a team that talent-wise is one of the top teams in the league, with Lindros wearing an "A" on his jersey, yet he can't help that team get into the playoffs. You'd think that it'd be easier for Lindros to get his team into the playoffs considering the fact that they bankrolled a huge fucking team capable of going fairly well into the playoffs. Of course, Jagr helped a less-talented Caps team get to the playoffs, but ultimately, they lost.

My point being: I'd rather have Jagr.

Won't the Rangers ever learn? You're not a good team at this point. Just except that, build for the future and don't sign or trade for a bunch of high priced free agents the next couple of years.

I wasn't talking about Lindros. Fuck that little bitch. This is the trade I was talking about:

Earlier this week, its been rumored that Jarimor Jagr has been traded to the New York Rangers, for Petr Nedved, Matthew Barnaby, and another young kid who's name I forget.

I'd rather have Jagr than Lindros, too.

But the Rangers want to move Lindros too. If Washington wants to unload Jagr, they'd probably have to take Lindros in exchange.

Lindros is giving Claude Lemieux a run for his money in the "universally reviled hockey player" category. At least Lemieux can produce in the clutch; Lindros is a concussion or two away from shitting himself in the middle of a game.

The ultimate irony would be send Eric to Quebec City's minor league team.

Heh, I can picture that happening too...

When it comes down to Jagr and Lindross I think anyone with a brain would tak Lindross, but when it comes down to Jagr and 11 million worth of potential I'll take the potential. Jagr's not gonna be producing the same numbers from here on out unless he gets better with age, which I don't see happening considering one of his biggest assets is speed.

But I have to admit seeing Jagr on a Ranger jersey would make me mark out like a little girl forgetting all thats wrong with the team... :(

I have a brain and I'd take Jagr. Given a chance to redo it, I'd still take Jagr.

Lindros' best years are behind him. This past year, he played in 81 games, which is a lot for him, and managed a paltry 53 points. That's a far cry from his 1995-96 season of 115 points, even last year's 73 points in 72 games.

Jagr, on the other hand, since coming to the Caps, has had seasons of 69 games and 79 points in 2001-02, and 75 games and 77 points. Keep in mind that Jagr doesn't have HALF of the offensive weapons that Lindros has in New York, that Jagr is a proven scorer in the league, and is only about a year older than Lindros.

Jagr has over 500 goals, and is only 31 years old. Lindros hasn't even gotten to 400 and he turns 31 next year.

Again, given the choice, I'd take Jagr.

Defensively, both are career +212, but Lindros has been a bit more susceptable to injury lately, what with missing an entire year with a concussion, while Jagr has yet to sustain a serious injury. He just misses a few games each year.

I'd STILL take Jagr, for the extra two million to add a guy that has 729 career assists, compared to Lindros' 439, playing with THAT offense in New York? They could make the playoffs.

Jagr > Lindros.
