Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 1) How did Tony Todd become a zombie, when he killed the women (I forget her name at the moment) who turned into a zombie and locked himself in the cellar? The cellar door was still locked at the end of the movie. 2) Did it ever explain HOW the zombies come about, and I just missed it?
Guest Lethargic Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Tony Todd was shot in the chest before he went down there. He died from his wounds before Barbara got back, so he was reanimated as a zombie by then. The news broadcast in the movie speculated that it was some kind of germ that brought them back. It seemed like the original movie said something about the Earth going through the tail of a comet. I don't think it's something that's ever been really explained and it shouldn't be. I like that zombies come out of nowhere for no reason. I've seen theories that Romero's The Crazies is a sorta sequel to NOTLD to explain where it started but that's never been confirmed I don't think. I haven't watched The Crazies yet either to form my own opinion. It's something about a bio weapon that gets loose and causes people to go crazy. The theory is that later on after that problem got solved, the chemical got absorbed into the ground and caused the dead to come to life.
Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 How was he reanimated as a zombie, though?
Guest El Satanico Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 He turned into a zombie the same way everyone else did, he died. That's really all there is to it.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 If there was a germ, or whatever, causing the recently deceased to become reanimated, then Todd would have had it on him as he was outside, and thus prone to reanimation. I don't get it either.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 you don't HAVE to have been bitten in that movie. If you've seen the version with all the useless added footage, then think about the scene in the very beggining. The criminal guy wasn't bit, just executed. He came back, too.
Guest Lethargic Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Yes, zombies aren't like werewolves. You don't have to be bit BY a zombie to BECOME a zombie. Not in the Dead movies anyway. ANYBODY that is recently dead becomes a zombie. You die, you're a zombie. If you die of natural causes or if you're killed by a zombie, you still become one.

The reason for the zombies (in the remake) was "kinda-sorta" explained when that old guy was rambling about how he was "sorry" to Jim and Barbara in the graveyard. It's hinted that he did something to cause it. (Voodoo) In the original it was radiation. (Or no room in hell)
Guest Lethargic Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 I can't really buy that voodoo theory. I mean it's a big leap of faith to think that just because somebody says "I'm sorry" that it means he can use voodoo to bring the dead back to life all over the world. haha I never thought of that before I just assumed he said he was sorry because he bumped into her as he was stumbling through and he said it weird because he was in shock from the head injury and from just being attacked by a zombie.

I'm really interested in how you connect the two.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 No, he was mumbling about "a mistake" and "I'm sorry." I assumed he somehow did something that brought the dead to life.
Guest Big_Jay101 Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 That movie has been on the Mystery channel alot lately.
Guest Lethargic Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 He doesn't say anything about a mistake. I just played it and he said "I'm sorry, very sorry, I'm sorry" and then walks off. But the voodoo thing is another thing mentioned as a possibility during the newscast later on.
Guest Vyce Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I'm actually fond of the remake. I like Pat Tallman, I'm a big Tony Todd fan, and I thought Savini did a capable job.
