Guest DarkHollywood Report post Posted June 26, 2003 The following matches and segments were taped after the 1994 King of the Ring, leading up to Summerslam of that year. From The Heartbreak Hotel. Shawn Michaels introduces the FORMER manager of the Undertaker, Paul Bearer. Michaels makes fun of his tuxedo and calls him ugly, in more words than you need to know. Michaels mentions that Ted Dibiase had found The Undertaker. He says that when Bearer took over his managerial services, the Undertakers career went down. Bearer finally responds with his crying voice. He has regained contact with HIS Undertaker. He says he hasn't spoken with him but he has CONTACTED with him. Michaels pimps "Undertaker" versus Tatanka next week on Superstars. Michaels basically calls him a liar until the lights start to flicker, causing the crowd to erupt...and then the bell tolls to an explosive ovation. No Undertaker Though as Paul Bearer loses it. Pretty good segment. The Next WWF Generation commercial, with Bret Hart giving his glasses to some brat after teasing kiciking his ass. Memory Lane Match: (From: Wrestlemania I): Andre The Giant Vs. Big John Studd: The Memory Lane concept came from Raven back when he was Johnny Polo. This is the infamous body slam challenge match from the first Wrestlemania. If Giant wins the match by slamming Studd, he wins the money. IF Studd slams Andre or the match goes to a 20 minute TLD, Andre must retire. Well, everyone knows the out come. Andre works over Studd the whole match with bear hugs and clubbing rights, scoops him up, stalls, and plants him with a slam to a big ovation at 5:54. DUD. Andre throws a few handfulls of money out to the crowd before Heenan steals the money back. Well That was pretty bad. Tatanka Vs. "Double J" Jeff Jarrett: This is from Monday Night Raw a week or two after King of The Ring, featuring matches from the first round losers. Mabel defeated Bam Bam Bigelow last week, after the match dumped Luna in favor of Ted Dibiase's Million $ Corporation. Savage & Monsoon on commentary because...well...you know. (Bangs Gavel) Raw Card girl still around and she's pretty hot, and wearing Well Dunns ring attire I think. Tatanka out of the gate with some chops to the head and sends him to the buckle several times and catches him with a running powerslam for two. Stalling Suplex by Tatanka and that gets two as well. Jarrett with a drop toe hold and applies a reverse chin lock. Tatanka whips him off but gets caught with a shoulderblock, but nails a Japanese arm drag and applies his own headlock. Shoulder block and hip toss by Tatanka and back to the headlock. Tatanka off the ropes and Jarrett dumps him over the top rope...for the win at 6:10?! Oh wait.....Jarrett doesn't want the count-out win, so the match restarts. Back from commercial and Jarrett connects with a big clothesline for two and he applies a rear chinlock. Sleeper Hold is traded until Jarrett rams Tatanka into the corner. Another sleeper hold by Double J and Tatanka starts hulking up. Tatanka dances around the ring and chops away at Jarrett like a mo'foer for two. Tatanka catches Jarrett with a big boot and a DDT for two! Tatanka off the top rope with the chop to the head...for two! Jarrett got the foot on the ropes. Jarrett walks off...only to be chased back in the ring by Doink, and Tatanka school boys him for three at 6:08. **1/4 Match was hot at the beginning and end, but the middle portion dragged a little too much. It's now time for The Kings Court! Jerry Lawlers special guest this week is the challenger for the world title next week, the 1-2-3 Kid! Lawler tells him to not pay attention to the fans about his match. He tells him the match is an oprotunity of a life time. Lawler tells him that he's going to be pulling for him to beat Bret Hart. 1-2-3 Kid calls him Mr. bret Hart and says his the greatest wrestler in the world. He has too much respect for Bret Hart to cheat, or stoop to Lawler's level. Lawler makes fun of Nikolai Volkoff. He keeps calling him Mr. Lawler. He says if he wins the title it won't be for Lawler, it will be for himself. - Tatanka Vs. The Undertaker: Taped From the June 21 edition of Superstars matches. This is the only non jobber match I have of Brian Lee as Undertaker, and probably is the only one before Summerslam. ''Taker" from behind with some roundhouse rights, and a choke in the corner. Boot to the midsection and another choke. Roundhouse right follows as does a big boot. Arm ringer and the rope walk clothesline to the back of the neck follows. another series of chokes in the corner. I'd never think Tatanka was a jobber. Tatanka works in the chops picking up the pace until "taker" gives him one punch. Drop Toe Hold and a Face ringer. Definitely not Undertaker like wrestling. Another choke hold. I mean Jaw hold. Tatanka eats buckle and no sells. He starts the dance. Chop and another. Knife-edge's and head chops by Tatanka. "taker" stops him but gets chopped again, and a second time. Flying forearm puts him down. Boot and Chop but "taker" with a thrust to the throat and tombstone to end the match at 6:21. DUD. Wow, Tatanka did shit here. Summerslam 1994 Report! August 29th (My Birthday!) on Monday Night. From the United Center in Chicago, IL. The Main Event was announced...and it's...The Undertaker...versus...Bret? Owen? 1-2-3 Kid? Nope...versus The Undertaker. That's the only match announced, as even Todd Pettingle seems to be confused. Insert Interview by Paul Bearer. Nothing much, since I had transcribing him. He does say that money is the rout of all evils. WWF MARATHON TOUR! Live From The Nassau Coliseum! For The WWF Championship Bret Hart defends the title against Owen Hart in an Iron Man Rules Match. The Tag Team Titles will also be on the line when the Head Shrinkers defend the titles. Also, Tatanka takes on I.R.S in an Indian Strap Match, Randy Savage battles Jerry Lawler, Typhoon faces Yokozuna, Duke Droese squares off against Rick Martel, and the 1-2-3 Kid takes on Kwang. WWF-Womens Championship Match: Alundra Blayze © Vs. Luna Vachon: Lord knows I dis-like women's wrestling, so I'll try NOT to be too mean towards this one. Blayze was pretty over until the incident that kind of had a reason to the Montreal Screwjob. Lockup and Luna with some knees to the midsection. Blayze connects with a running drop kick and does a flair flip. Luna charges but Blayze pulls down the ropes on her. Luna works on Blayze leg wrapping it around the ring post. Boston Crab applied, looks more like the Walls of Jericho. Ladies chanting Blayze. Alundra sunset flips out of the hold for two but gets stepped on. Modified Indian death lock by Luna. Blayze catches her in the corner with another sunset flip for two. Slingshot under the bottom rope catches Blayze by the throat, followed by a snap suplex. Vader bomb gets two. Scoop slam connects but she misses a top rope splash. Blayze with a running bulldog headlock and the German suplex wins it at 3:44. * Decent enough. Danny Davis was the referee I noticed. Clips of Diesel beating up some poor jobber and finishing him off with the jackknife powerbomb about a minute into the match. Michaels slaps him around a bit. Thurman "Sparky" Plugg Vs. Jim "The Anvil" Niedhart: This is from a Wrestling Challenge taping, running against All American Wrestling on USA network. This is Anvils first big match since returning to the WWF. Lockup and Anvil easily wins the lock up. Side Headlock by The Anvil and he connects with the shoulder tackle. Monsoon & Dibiase on commentary for this one. Anvil with another side headlock but he runs into a drop toe hold and Plugg with a grapevine. Armbar by Plugg and he tries a victory roll, no dice, but a drop-kick puts down Niedhart and he applies another armbar. Anvil catches Plugg off a cross body and slams him over the top rope. Double Axehandle off the apron by Anvil and he punishes Pluggs back, back in the ring. Choke across the top rope and we get some We Want Bret chants. 5 years later and it's You Screwed Bret. Anvil continues the assault and hurls Plugg clear across the ring. More choking in the corner and I noticed Joey Morella is the referee. Sunset Flip by Plugg is blocked with a hard right. MORE Choking by Niedhart. Owen gets some shots in on the outside. Anvil misses a charge to the corner and Plugg hammers away. Boots to the midsection and he nails a running back elbow and a series of standing drop-kicks. To the top rope and Plugg gets caught in a powerslam for three at 5:57. 3/4* Too much choking hurt this match. The ending seemed a little botched, but not too badly. Memory Lane Match: (From Wrestlemania VII): Jake "The Snake" Roberts Vs. "The Model" Rick Martel: This is the infamous blindfold match from Wrestlemania VII, stemming off from a six month long feud dating back to October 1990. Now lets get down to all the contact portions of the match. Jake grabs Martels legs but nothing notable....Martel trips over Jake, but he starts pounding on Jakes face. Backdrop fails. No shit. They back into each other, then Martel runs into the ropes with Danny Davis grinning all the while. Martel starts kicking at air while Jake is a good 20 feet away from him. Martel misses an elbow drop. No shit part 2. Rick grabs the snake bag and falls right into Jake Roberts. Match ends with Martel getting the Boston crab on Jake, but he powers out and nails his first Offensive move of the night, the dreaded DDT for the pin at 6:11. * The crowd was really into it, so was I, plus it was a new thing to the WWF, so ill be generous for this match. Nice Little video package to pimp the 1-2-3 Kid/Bret Hart World Championship Match. Highlights from WAY back in May 1993 when 1-2-3 Kid pinned Razor Ramon on an upset edition of Raw. Also clips from a few weeks later where he defeated Ted Dibiase. Clips to the 1 Year Anniversary when he and Jannetty won the tag team titles. Several weeks ago, he won a #1 Contenders match by defeating Nikolai Volkoff. Pretty good way to build up 1-2-3 Kid as a threat. WWF World Championship Match: Bret "Hitman" Hart © Vs. 1-2-3 Kid: This was a PRETTY good match by what I remember, and was the start of the New Generation, according to the special Raw Magazine from earlier this year. Both get good pops, with Bret getting the better of the two. Jim Ross pimps Bret's accomplishments in the WWF. Owen & Niedhart interrupt before the match starts but are taken back by several WWF referees. Tim White & Jack Doan to be exact. Bell Sounds and we're underway. Savage & Ross on commentary, so no heel comments. Lockup and 1-2-3 with an arm drag take down, and Bret looks surprised. Knuckle Lock and Bret turns it into an armbar, which is reversed into a wristlock by the 1-2-3 Kid into another armbar, which Bret reverses with a slam, and 1-2-3 Kid kips up back into a standing position. Lockup and 1-2-3 with a standing side headlock into a go-behind hammer lock. Bret snapmares 1-2-3 Kid but he keeps the hold applied. Bret with an irish whip and connects with a stiff back elbow. Snapmare take over into a rear chinlock by the champion. 1-2-3 with an Irish whip and Bret with a shoulderblock. Monkey Flip by 1-2-3 Kid and he connects with a reverse enziguri and a spinning heel kick sends Bret to the outside! We go to commercial, and when we come back...1-2-3 has Bret in a hammer lock. Bret back to his feet with an arm drag but 1-2-3 Kid keeps the hold applied. Bret with an irish whip and he catches kid with a running knee lift. Stomp to the midsection by Bret followed by a scoop slam and leg drop. In the corner and Bret plasters him with several European uppercuts. Knee to the face of 1-2-3 Kid and Bret drops the elbow across the back of the neck of the Kid. Stomps to the midsection an a swinging neck breaker by Bret gets two. Bret applies a reverse chinlock and stomps a mudhole in the corner. More vicious uppercuts and 1-2-3 kid pays tribute to Bret with a stiff whip to the buckle bump. Irish Whip and 1-2-3 Kid catches Bret with a cross body press for two! Sunset Flip by Kid is blocked by Bret into a pinning situation for two! Whip and 1-2-3 Kid gets nailed trying to go for a crucifix pin with a Samoan drop and THAT gets two! They say Bret won....but he says Kid's foot was on the ropes so the match will continue. That just bumped the rating up 1/4*. We go to commercial, and when we come back...Bret connects with a double underhook suplex for two and applies a sleeper hold. 1-2-3 back to his feet and he scores several elbows to the midsection followed by a back slide for two! Of Course the Main Event was announced as The Undertaker versus The Undertaker. Same as the last one I guess. Typhoon Vs. Yokozuna: From an episode of Superstars of Wrestling. Wow, we went from a near 5-Star match to THIS. Earlier this year Yokozuna put out Earthquake. Yokozuna stomps away at Typhoon before he can get up and Yoko puts him down with a big headbutt, and some eye raking to follow. Whip and Typhoon with a series of roundhouse rights and a big clothesline. Yokozuna takes a REALLY long breather. Back in the ring and Yokozuna wants a test of strength...no dice. Yokozuna hammers on Typhoon and chokes him again. Yokozuna misses his corner avalanche, but Typhoon nails his, and connects with a clothesline for two. Big elbow drop gets two again. Yokozuna rakes the eyes but can't slam him. Crush comes down and draws the DQ at 3:48. DUD Typhoon hammers on Crush and puts him down with a back elbow then splashes Yokozuna in the corner. Lex Luger: Nice Way to end this tape...with a possibly crappy and long match. Lockup and no one really wins that one. They feel each other out a bit and lockup again, and another deadlock. Third lockup and Diesel slaps around in the corner. Pushing fight and Luger is sent to the floor. Luger sunsets flip Diesel out of the gate for two and Shawn gives Diesel some words of advice. Why did he wrestle so minimally around the time? Diesel hammers on Luger with a series of forearms to the back of the head and he lays it into him in the corner. Series of back elbows in the corner and he does the foot choke. Whip and Luger catches him with a Powerslam for two! Roundhouse Rights by Luger and Diesel falls through the ropes to the floor. He chases Shawn into the ring and the referee DQ's Diesel at 13:20. Ramon hammer son Diesel and connects with the discus punch. Diesel hammers Ramon from behind and Michaels puts the boots to him. Luger makes the save and sends Shawn & Diesel to the back. Ted Dibiase is in the aisle! Did Luger Sell Out? Match, was surprisingly DECENT, ** sounds right, which is more than I predicted. Final Thoughts: I taped this after the King of the Ring PPV, so I don't think you'll find a comp. with just these matches. Probably some from before the PPV and after this stuff. Overall, the World Title Match alone is worth a look at some of the TV footage, plus you got some decent mid-card action to boot. Too bad the WWF didn't air some of the house show tours they did.
