AOL problem

Recommended Posts

My Granfather still uses AOL even though we have Comcast Cable. He's old, he can't adapt to new things. Last night he found this program on the front page of AOL that checks your computer for problems and fixes them. It found a problem with his internet connection and he selected to fix it. Now his internet connection IS messed up.

Everytime he starts AOL it says "installing network adapter files" and then once he signs on a error pops up and says "AOL has discovered a problem with your internet connection, please sign off, reboot and restart AOL." Needless to say we've done that 5 bajillion times and it still does it everytime. AOL itself works and he can still access the internet through IE, but AOL can NOT access the internet so pretty much 90% of the links inside AOL don't work because they take you to something hosted on the internet and not on AOL. I've done everything I can think of to try to fix it. I've even completely uninstalled all THREE versions of AOL he had on his computer and then installed the new one and it still does it. I called AOL's tech people and all he told me was "please, sir, reboot your computer, I am sure this will fix your problem, thank you for calling and if we can ever be of more help please call again, goodnight *CLICK*". All of this in broken English of course. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this crap?

Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz

I found this, might be a start:

1. Button to START>Settings>Control Panel>Networks

2. Select each of the following components individually and click the REMOVE button to remove the AOL network adaptors:

a. AOL Adaptor

b. AOL Display Adaptor

c. TCP/IP AOL Adaptor

d. TCP/IP Display Adaptor

3. Restart your computer.
