SummerSlam 95 question

Recommended Posts

I know that the main feud at SS 95 was Diesel and Mabel, with Mabel having various "royal plans" to weaken Diesel enough to get the title from him. On the Monday Night Raw before SS, British Bulldog came down to the ring during an interview with Diesel, conducted by Vince. Bulldog said that his partner Lex Luger was injured and unable to wrestle against Mabel and Moe that night, so he asked Diesel to fill his place, and Diesel said yes. At the end of the match, British Bulldog turned on Diesel, and he and Mabel beat him down. During the segment a half hour before SS, Jim Ross said that he couldn't get any comment from either Lex or Jim Cornette. What ever happened between Diesel and British Bulldog? And what about Lex Luger?

Alright-

Bulldog and Lex Luger were supposed to remain a team after the heel turn but Davey would leave in the middle of matches and generally be a dick to him to which I assume would set up a feud.

Unfourtunatly Luger jumped to WCW a week after Summerslam so those plans were dead.

Davey and Diesel ended up fighting at IYH 4. Bret got involved and it had a DQ finish

Luger ran in during the Diesel-Mabel match and chased off Mo. I may be wrong, but that was Luger's last appearance in the WWF. Bob pretty much covered everything else.

A few days prior to that Raw taping, Bulldog & Lex had a number of tag matches that they lost due to Bulldog walking out of the match ... I believe one was to the Blu Twins. So right there the fans could tell a heel turn was being forshadowed. The trend continued until the episode was aired about a week or so later. Prior to the house show matches, Howard Finkel announced to the crowd that Bulldog didn't want the fans to chant "USA" during the match since he wasn't from America (and, reverse psychology being what it is, I'm sure you all know what happened as a result).

At the Superstars taping a day or two after Summer Slam, Mabel interrupted an interview segment with Luger - upset that his interference led to Mabel getting beat at the PPV. This segment never aired and was obviously put together to build a feud between the two. It was advertised a week prior but by the time Saturday came along, Luger had already jumped to WCW.

Luger's last match was a tag match with he and HBK beating Owen and Yoko via DQ at a house show in early September 1995.

Had Luger stayed around, I believe he would have been paired off with Mabel for a month or so while Bulldog feuded with Diesel. Then after both rivalries died down, I'm sure Luger and Bulldog would have had a blowoff of some sort.

Interestingly enough, in between Luger taping that interview and Luger leaving for WCW, he and Davey Boy were scheduled for separate matches at a house show I attended, but Luger no-showed, and Davey claimed he had injured Luger the night before.

Just to add to that a bit.

Am I the only one who found Luger's run-in funny as hell? Diesel is in the ring trying to fight off Men on a Mission and when Luger comes out to save him, Diesel INTENTIONALLY hits Luger, knocks him into the ropes and then clotheslines him over the top. Then when he gets up a couple minutes later, he chases Mo to the back like nothing happened. I died laughing at that one.

I think that's because the reasoning was that Diesel didn't "know who to trust" at the time, and thought that Luger was in Cornette and/or Mabel's pocket. That's how it came off, at least to me, in the commentary.

I was at Luger's second-last house show in Niagara Falls, and he replaced Diesel that night to team with HBK to beat Men On A Mission.

I understood where they were coming from. I just found it funny. It just seemed so damn random when it happened. The crowd reaction, the fact that Diesel actually clotheslined the man over the top, and Lex acting like nothing happened after all of it just had me laughing my ass off.

Oh, I know what you mean. Luger just popped right up and start hammering on Mo and chased him to the back. Definitely a "WTF?" moment in WWF/E history.

Thanks for the help guys. I kind of assumed Luger left around that time because the angle just kinda... feel apart.

Nope, he left due to Bischoff's wallet.

Off-topic-Surprised to see another RI'er popping up around here. Where did you go to school, OTSS?

I went to Johnston High, but I knew a ton of people from LaSalle over the years. I'm assuming you know Nevermortal, I'm sure you guys are going to wind up knowing at least one or two of my LaSalle friends.

I graduated back in '98, so I'm a bit older than you, but I knew LaSalle people up until this past year.
