Guest benoitrulz4life Report post Posted June 28, 2003 Fuck the "Misfits". They've been dead for twenty years, so unless Danzig comes back, they aren't getting a red cent from me.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 28, 2003 Jerry's a better frontman than Danzig, I'm afraid. See, Jerry lets people onstage with him. Danzig just punches 'em and throws 'em off. Jerry Only > Glenn Danzig
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Report post Posted June 28, 2003 The awesomeness of The Damned, The Dickies, and Agnostic Front, contrasted against the shittyness of the current Misfits and Balzac. Hmm.... Ehh, if it comes anywhere near here, I'll go.
Guest benoitrulz4life Report post Posted June 28, 2003 "Danzig just punches 'em and throws 'em off." And you find fault in that?

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Jerry Only invited half the crowd onto the stage to sing with him. THAT is cool. Only gives two fucks about his fanbase.
Guest benoitrulz4life Report post Posted June 30, 2003 *prick mode on* Yeah, but he's fucking Danzig, he's not supposed to be nice. Just because you invite people onto the stage to sing doesn't mean you're any good. Jerry's the only person who knows how to competently play his instrument and Doyle can play a decent power chord but that's it. At least when they had Franche Coma, they had a credible guitarist. IMO that's when their best music was produced. As for drummer and singer, who the hell even knows who's gonna perform from day to day. Jerry's just a guy out to make a quick buck with a name that Glenn created. Now you've got teenage kids walking around thinking that their cool with their Misfits shirts, and not having a clue what all that shit means. They weren't even in fucking diapers when the Misfits were around back in the so-called glory days of hardcore, when shows thrived on being violent and out of control. So fans couldn't get on stage and sing-along without getting beat up by the band or other fans, boo-fucking hoo. Danzig was actually pretty cool to most of his fans, starting the Fiend Club and letting fans get exclusive copies of albums and "fiend club" pins and other cool stuff. He didn't start getting bitter and pissy until Jerry fucked him over with the Misfits name. The Misfits were nonexistant until Jerry decided that he could make money now that bands like Metallica and G N'R were covering their songs and kids were like "This shit is cool, let's check the Misfits out." I'm not harping on you because you enjoy them now, I'm only bitching about someone saying ANYTHING (besides marketing) in the new Misfits is better than the old. Danzig > Jerry Only, end of story. *prick mode off* Nothing personal, Laz.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 30, 2003 And watch me now get my ass beaten. I prefer newer Misfits. Why? I think the songs are better structured, the lyrics are more diverse, and the overall "feel" of the albums are more enjoyable than the standard "let's write some songs about killing people" of old Misfits. Do I also love old Misfits? Of course. It's The fucking MISFITS, man! But would I choose Static Age over, say, Famous Monsters? Probably not. And why is Glenn better than Jerry? Because Jerry takes the time out of his life to go out and sign everything a fan brings to him? Because Jerry will do anything for the Fiends? Because Jerry isn't from Denmark? Glenn might have come up with The Misfits name, man, but Jerry took The Misfits to a different level by writing the songs. And Doyle can only play a power chord? "Descending Angel," my friend. Doyle has a very, VERY good solo in that song. I don't remember any solo's from Danzig-era Misfits that had a solo, save for the puny hammer-on in "We Are 138." Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 30, 2003 The reason Only lets kids on stage with him is so he can try to pick their pockets for loose change to get a bus ride home after the show. I really, really, love the American Psycho album. I thought it was great mix of punk and metal and I thought Graves was a great frontman. Live, the band was fantastic and put on a much better show than the old band did. But Famous Monsters is the worst, most embarassingly bad album I have ever heard. It's a laugh riot. It's amazingly bad. It's bad on the level of they must've tried very, very hard to make something that bad because making something that terrible is hard to do. I have never heard of a person liking one song off that piece of shit much less the whole album. It's not a coincidence that the ENTIRE BAND QUIT after making that thing. Jerry Only has a frontman is retarded. The guy can barely play bass, can't sing at all, so now he's failing at doing them both together. I don't care how many autographs he signs or how many mutants he lets get on stage with him, the fact of the matter is that he's turned the Misfits into a joke by doing what he's doing and that kind of stuff is the only way he can get people to like him. Singing autographs doesn't make you a good front man, having talent does. I wouldn't have any problem if he would actually put together a band. Put together an actual Misfits band with a new guitar player and a new singer and it might be cool again. But him going around by himself and acting like he's the whole band is just stupid. What's next? Jerry Only comes to town with one of those one man band outfits and calls himself the Misfits? And hey, don't even get me started on drunk ass Marky Ramone, I actually dislike him, I don't dislike Only, I just think he's being kinda dumb with this. Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted June 30, 2003 I have never heard of a person liking one song off that piece of shit much less the whole album. Really? That's odd. "Descending Angel" is the most popular Misfits song amoungst my group of friends, even though most of them don't even like the Misfits - they just like that song. The Misfits were nonexistant until Jerry decided that he could make money now that bands like Metallica and G N'R were covering their songs and kids were like "This shit is cool, let's check the Misfits out." I could be wrong here, but didn't the Misfits vanish for a while due to legal troubles? I'm pretty sure that Danzig tried to get the rights to The Misfits all for himself (Which makes sense, cuz he did write pretty much all the original stuff, if I'm not mistaken) and that kinda muddled everything up for years, until Only and the rest got the ability to use the name, and thus, more Misfits. If I'm remembering this correctly, then I'd like to point out that Jerry didn't just up and decide to bring back the 'Fits back because he thought he could make a quick buck - he brought them back because he finally could legally. I dunno - I don't mind new Misfits, and I think some of it is damned good. But I think Danzig had the best comment on the band, as he said on LOUD once, something along the lines of "It's not bad, but it's not the Misfits. Why not just call it the Jerry Only Band instead of trying to be something you're not?"
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 30, 2003 I don't see how anybody could not like Famous Monsters. "Scream," "Saturday Night," "Descending Angel," "The Abominable Doctor Phibes"...there are a lot of good songs on the album. Aside from "Dig Up Her Bones" and one or two other tracks, American Psycho is rather weak. Jerry's not the best bassist? Of course. He's a punk musician. Nobody in punk is a great musician, and if they are, they shouldn't be playing punk. True, he's not the best frontman either. But Graves to go do his own thing, and Doyle's home with his wife and kid(s). The drummer quit (which is alright, because he blew anyways). All Jerry needs is a new frontman and a new drummer, and the band is complete again. Once again, Jerry wouldn't have gotten NEARLY as much shit as he does if he decided to name the newer band something else.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 30, 2003 Boy, do I ever hate post-Danzig Misfits. ESPECIALLY Graves. I don't know what it is..but I can picture him...smiling when he's singing. It makes me think of happy horror movies. What the fuck is that about? Danzig was ugly, mean, and short. THAT's what I want out of my punk rockers.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted June 30, 2003 Sorry, the Newfits suck. Who cares if they're better musicians? THEY STILL AREN'T THE FUCKING MISFITS. They're simply another band using the name. Nothing personal Laz, but there's no fucking way that the new Misfits are better than the Danzig-era Misfits. No fucking way in hell.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 30, 2003 He's a punk musician. Nobody in punk is a great musician, and if they are, they shouldn't be playing punk. That is the stupidest comment I've ever heard in my life. It's funny cause second place went to saying "Saturday Night" was a good song.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 30, 2003 "Saturday Night" has a 50's ballad feel to it. I enjoy 50's music. Of course I'm gonna like it. That's why I prefer newer Misfits over Danzig-era. It has more of as 50's vibe to it, and I'd take 50's rock & roll over punk any day.
Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Oh, and Dr. Phibes is on American Psycho. Well, the shorter version is. The longer one is on Cuts from the Crypt. Sorry, just being anal.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted July 1, 2003 And isn't it just a short, boring, instrumental intro to the CD?
Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted July 1, 2003 On American Psycho, yes it is. Which really bugs me, because on the video for "American Psycho" they extend it a bit with some organ-ish stuff, which is much better then just the guitars, and on Cuts from the Crypt it actually turns into a full-length song (probably extra long for the 'Fits) that isn't half-bad. So that version is the worst one.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 1, 2003 I was thinking "Kong At The Gates," which is an equally good intro-instrumental. Meh, different strokes for different folks.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 1, 2003 The Misfits without Danzig is like the Dead Kennedys without Jello. Meaning they're a good band, but they aren't really the band that the name suggests. Regardless of how good of a frontman Jerry is (or the kid from Courtship of Eddie's Father, for that matter) it was the frontman at the time that helped create the infamous aura of the original band. Having said that, I'm-a-going but more for the Damned and Agnostic Front. AF always puts on a good show (although this will be the third time I've seen them since I went to their "last show ever" so I'm regretting that trip) and I've always wanted to see the Damned. Will I stay for the Misfits? Yes. Will they be the reason that I go? No.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Heh...have a TSM meeting at the show...it'd be weird... Interesting...The Misfits = Metallica. Newer Misfits wouldn't get shit on if the band had a different name, same for newer Metallica.

There's no point people calling Laz's comments 'stupid; just because he prefers the newer direction of the Misfits to the old one. Of course, it's equally stupid to disregard the reasons old fans will resent that, but I feel the same way as him. Here it is again. Famous Monsters > Static Age.
