Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted June 28, 2003 ok i just got a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 a few days ago... it has been used before by one previous owner.. im pretty happy with the car except one thing.... it makes this scraping/screeching sound when i am just driving around for no reason... sometimes when i press on the brake or gas softly it does that.. its kind of annoying.. it has power lock brakes so do you think its just normal that it does that or is it a big problem...i cant get anyone to look at it till monday but if its normal i will just forget it... Guest HBK16 Report post Posted June 28, 2003 My sister has the exact same car. It doesnt make that sound. Have your brakes checked. My dad's car did something like that and it ended up being the axle. Im not sure of how it exactly sounds like but that could be the two reasons.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 28, 2003 My shitbox is gradually dripping something green, which I assume is coolant. Are there any products on the market I can just dump in my radiator? or will this require an actual mechanic patching it with something?
Guest WukenBloodstar Report post Posted June 28, 2003 If it's dripping green, might be the a/c or radiator, my guess is the a/c..but don't take my word on it..I'm not a mechanic or anything.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 28, 2003 That would be coolant, AoO. Just find where the original leak is and patch it up with some of that putty shit that turns into virtual steel. If it's a lot of green stuff though, you might need a new hose, thermostat, or the whole radiator. (has had so many coolant problems with cars he's owned he's now the GAWD of solving such things)
Guest KJ Brackish Report post Posted June 28, 2003 Its not just Ford that this can happen to man! My mom has a Toyota Camery and it did the same thing. It turned out that something went wrong with her roter(sp) so she had to replace it. Sorta an expensive thing to fix, but that is for a foreign car. I don't know bout a Ford. Good luck and I hope that fixes your problem. Go get it checked out and let me/us know if I was right. It could be a multiple of things but it sounds to me that, that is it. DFA EDIT: To Agent of Oblivian - If you can get some thermal epoxy that might work. I used it to fix my dad's radiator and it worked like a charm. If you can find the leak though. His was obvious...was on the front so it was ez to fix.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 28, 2003 oh, it only forms a tiny pool about 4 inches in diameter after sitting out all night. It's not even a pool, it's a damp circle under the radiator. steel putty, eh? Is this substance available at Napa?
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 28, 2003 Yeah it's available at all hardware/auto stores, I just can't remember what the shit is called for some reason. Just ask for the putty-like stuff you cut segments off of and then ball up to turn into metal. Seriously, let that stuff sit for about 20 minutes and you'd have no idea it was malleable when you took it out of the little cylindrical container. Just make sure to keep the stuff inside and the container closed so the whole thing doesn't harden up on you. And yes, when your brake rotors (the actual discs in disc brakes) wear down enough, they will start to squeal and squeak. That wouldn't explain why you hear it when accelerating too though. The rotors are still good (just really annoying to hear squeak), but get them replaced soon. It'll only be about $100-$150, and that's only a vague idea of cost since my friend's rotors for his Cobra are $150 or so each.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 28, 2003 I annihilated the brakes on my last car. The pads were worn through, and the calipers had ground a quarter inch or so deep of a groove in the rotor. They were FUCKED.
