Guest Some Guy Report post Posted June 30, 2003 I see some problems with the voting this year that I thought was starting to get better last year with the selection of Hillenbrand and Posada to start. This year it's back to more of the same stupidity. Scott Rolen signs a big contract and leads in the NL 3b voting while Lowell is 3rd 400,000 votes behind him and Vinny Castilla is a head of him as off 6/23 according to ESPN.com. Sosa leads Pujols by about 80,000 votes despite missing abotu a month to a toe injury and suspension. Torri Hunter is third in AL OF despite having a sub par year. Trot Nixon isn't in the top 15 despite having one of his best years and Vernon Wells being 9th in the voting is a disgrace. AL 3B 1. Troy Glaus 2. Eric Chavez 3. Robin Ventura 4. Hank Blalock 5. Corie Koskie Uhmmmm... How about that Bill Mueller guy, I heard a rumor that he's been tearing it up all year (with the exception of a recent slump)? And shouldn't Blalock be a little higher than 4th? AL DH 1. Edgar (where he should be 2. Everett (ok) 3. Frank Thomas (sure) 4. Nick Johnson (he's hurt but was having a good year) 5. Jeremy Giambi (WTF!?!, the guy is batting .173 and has 165,696 votes, less than 1000 fewer than Thomas! The only hting I can think of is people confusing him with his brother who thankfully is trailing Delgado by over 100,000 votes. Now we get to the reserves. If Clemens starts and not Loaiza, Halliday, or Moyer it'll be a joke. If Jeter gets picked and they sacifice a 2B because of it and Todd Walker gets shafted it'll be a joke. Just somethign to bitch about. I hate the unwritten rule that All Star managers have to pick established stars and that people tend to vote for those guys. Cal Jr. didn't deserve to be there for about the last 5 years of his career. Griffey made it on reputation for a few years in Cincy, I-Rod got voted in when he was out for the year, etc... It annoying.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted June 30, 2003 Scott Rolen signs a big contract and leads in the NL 3b voting while Lowell is 3rd 400,000 votes behind him and Vinny Castilla is a head of him as off 6/23 according to ESPN.com. Scott Rolen is having a very good year, and has the same edge in OBP that Lowell has in power. Add in Rolen's fielding and I'm not entirely sure that Lowell's having a better year. Castilla's mere presence in a big league line-up, let alone all-star balloting, is puzzling. Sosa leads Pujols by about 80,000 votes despite missing abotu a month to a toe injury and suspension. He's been so good, so long, that most voters give him the benefit of the doubt. Plus people started voting in early May. The gap is closing every time the vote totals are released. Uhmmmm... How about that Bill Mueller guy, I heard a rumor that he's been tearing it up all year (with the exception of a recent slump)? And shouldn't Blalock be a little higher than 4th? Mueller isn't listed on the ballot. Now we get to the reserves. If Clemens starts and not Loaiza, Halliday, or Moyer it'll be a joke. If Jeter gets picked and they sacifice a 2B because of it and Todd Walker gets shafted it'll be a joke. I can see Clemens starting, since he leads the league in Ks. I think Jeter's injury will keep him out, though I fear Eckstein may find his way in with Scioscia managing. Just somethign to bitch about. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted June 30, 2003 There better be a spot for Eric Byrnes of the Oakland Athletics.
Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted June 30, 2003 I'm willing to bet we'll see most of these guys... AL Hideki Matsui David Wells Rocco Baldelli Roy Halladay Vernon Wells Too many Angels NL Ty Wigginton Dontrell Willis Mike Lowell John Smoltz Eric Gagne Kevin Brown (He might be the starter) Albert Pujols Brian Giles Mark Prior
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted June 30, 2003 You figure Wiggington will be the Mets sole represenative? I would've figured Floyd or Burnitz, but the NL is loaded with outfielders. On a side note, I'd like to thank the Mets management for signing Tom Glavine and forcing the Phillies to trade for Kevin Millwood.
Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted June 30, 2003 Don't forget Alex Gonzalez of the Marlins. He is absolutely having a great year. I think it's something like .912 OPS plus he has only made six errors. I think the Marlins should send three Allstars this year... Lowell, Gonzalez, and Dontrelle Willis. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 30, 2003 Loaiza might start because the games at the Cell. Jae Seo should probably be the Mets rep. He only has 6 wins, but the ERA is good and he hasn't been a starter the entire season. The Padres either White, or Loretta. Loretta having the advantage because he can play multiply positions. The Pirates since Giles missed time either Ramirez or Lofton. The Tigers Dmitri Young The Indians either Sabathia, Bradley or possibily Baez. The AL isn't strong in closers. Tamap either Baldelli or Huff.
