Guest Human Fly Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Honestly the matches have been going down in quality every week. Every match seems to have at least two chinlock sequences that last forever. Does anybody in the company know how to do anything but chinlocks? HHH busted out with the leglocks tonight, but 5 minutes of that was a heat killer to a match already in the heat morgue. Do the writers and the office actually think that they are putting out quality product with this? How many times are they going to keep saying that the just need to educate the fans to appreciate good mat wrestling? Start showing some good mat wrestling and maybe you'll get some appreciation. They encourage fans to chant boring at Lance Storm, but are probably surprised when it carries over to their mat "classics" and tag team matches with their green as grass champs. Can Dupree do anything well besides his little hop?
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 1, 2003 They want to push a mat based style but don't push the ones that know how to do it well? Gotta love WWE logic. It's hilarious to see HHH trying to do an Indian Death Lock, fucking up, even though Charlie Haas manages to do one picture-perfect.

What fucking match were you watching ? It was a hot match before the leglocks. It was a hot match after the leglocks. The leglocks killed it, and that was the responsibility of none other than HHH. And oh yeah, to officially add to this thread, chinlocks suck.
Detective Comics 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2003 You're right. At the house show I attended Saturday, Charlie Haas put on the same submission 5 times in a row, and each time the crowd had to clap in order to get Rhyno pumped up. 5 times, no word of a lie. And the same move!! There is no need for as many rest holds, and I'm sure there are more visually impressive, easy to pull of, and safer moves out there. Odd, Haas knows a hell of a lot more holds than that.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 1, 2003 It's funny how the *style* hasn't changed _at all_ as it's still the kick punch kick punch dynamic and low quality moves - they just took away the workrate and made the match sloooooower.
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted July 1, 2003 I'm sure he does, but remember, he's wrestling WWE Main Event Style, so 1 submission per wrestler, max!
Guest JRE Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Fans with short attention spans suck.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted July 1, 2003 A slow Maven vs Orton was stunning the crowd with silience.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted July 1, 2003 If they want to call this mat wrestling they can, but it's so freaking boring. I've seen a mat based match (the often mentioned American Dragon/Low Ki match) and it was awsome. These matches aren't.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Well WWE sure has a funny ass way of trying to do a mad based style. You have the top star on the Raw brand come out and tell the crowd to chant and yell boring at one of the guys who can actually work a mat based style. Then when he or anyone else does it, they chant boring. The writing on the wall for this kind of mis direction has been there for quite sometime. WWE told it's wrestlers sometime around Baclash that they should look to work matches that are more mat based with psychology. Right away, they sign the Los Guerrerro's vs Team Angle Ladder match. How are the troops supposed to respond to these mixed signals? You tell them "go conservative" and then book a match that is going to contain a bunch of high risk spots? I love this company! Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted July 1, 2003 We need someone like Yoshida to teach submission. Than all problems will be fixed!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 1, 2003 And they have their two big amateur wrestlers taking on the Big Show...
Guest EricMM Report post Posted July 1, 2003 You know big show is the mat based masta. Has he ever even done a chinlock?
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted July 1, 2003 No, but he did the worlds worst half-crab in the match three weeks ago on SD with Lesnar. Worst.......half-crab.......ever.
Guest Miss Independant Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Anyone remember that little survey WWE held asking the fans if they wanted longer, more technical matches? I'm betting that Vince has started to listen to the fans... the only problem being that besides a few (and I mean FEW) wrestlers on Raw, the guys seem to have forgotten how to tell a compelling story in the ring. Yeah, this isn't news, but if Vince wants more matches with extended time limits, he needs to bring in wrestlers that can carry their big name tallent in matches that don't consist of one rest hold after another. Also, was it just me, or was the crowd getting a pretty rousing "boring" chant going during La Res' vs. Spike and Hurricane? I still haven't gotten what Vince was thinking with that stunt. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 1, 2003 No, but he did the worlds worst half-crab in the match three weeks ago on SD with Lesnar. Worst.......half-crab.......ever. Well, Brock fed him the leg the execution was crappy. Does a boot choke count as a submission?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 1, 2003 It doesn't help that the WWE tells their wrestlers to wrestle the same fucking style and the same fucking match.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 1, 2003 It doesn't help that the WWE tells their wrestlers to wrestle the same fucking style and the same fucking match. And drill that same fucking style and fucking match into them when they are in OVW. If a worker shows individuality, then they are sent to OVW to get deprogrammed on how to work. Fucking sad when you think about it.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted July 1, 2003 I want to see how Nova wrestles now. Going into OVW I would say he was pretty much the opposite of WWE style. Has anybody seen any of his stuff lately?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Tajiri and RVD both got over because they were different - they promptly buried Tajiri soon afterwards and RVD after that lil dealie with Stone Cold.
Guest Marvel Man X Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Dean Malenko needs to teach them something.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 1, 2003 *the walk through before a televised match during the Invasion period* RVD: ......so then I'll forearm you into the corner here until you go down, then I'll hit you with the split legged moonsault which.. Austin, HHH, Taker, Rock: WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, WHOA there newbie. You don't go doing all kinds of saulty things in main events! You better listen to us on how this is gonna work. You punch, punch, punch, and when we get into a corner, we'll no sell all of your punches and then hit you with punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch. Then you'll bump and we'll go into a more tricky deal called kick, kick, kick.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 1, 2003 The last thing they need is Dean Malenko. Though I like Dean and find his execution of moves to be top notch, he had a knack for completely ignoring the audience and working the same hold or body part for an ungodly amount of time. So take some of Deans nifty mat work and speed it up a bit.
Guest JMA Report post Posted July 1, 2003 I like the mat based style. However, I also like spots. They should just push both.

I still haven't gotten what Vince was thinking with that stunt. Yes, and I'd like to claim credit for starting that particular round of "BORING"s for a poorly done, poorly thrown-together match. They'll likely dub them out, but we were hitting Garrison Cade pretty badly during Heat, too.

Guest Miss Independant Report post Posted July 1, 2003 Honestly, I couldn't tell you if they deserved the boring chants. Le Res' goes out and my brain temporarily shuts down. All I can think of is me, them, and a vat of baby oil. I'll take your word on it that it sucked though.
