Rocky V

I really don't see the point of all the negativity that this movie gets. Storywise, I think it may actually be the best Rocky in the series. It wraps up the whole story quite nicely while having its own plot unfolding. Do you not like Rocky V? Why? Because there's no big (official) fight? He was trying to retire since Rocky II, and he finally did. Sure, he beat the heavyweight champ in a street fight, but consider that Tommy Gunn wasn't very highly thought of as a fighter and Rocky taught him everything he knew anyway. You may think it as overkill for the series to go five movies, but did you want them to end it with IV, winning a fight in Russia and not know what he comes home to? Why did they lose the mansion? So they could show how much he missed being involved with boxing. They showed the punch-drunk Rocky in a very good yet simpathetic light, especially when Tommy wins the title and thanks the Don King-esque Duke for everything instead of the man that helped him get there.

Again, it just ends the series perfectly. Heck, in the original screenplay that Stallone wrote, Rocky died at the end. This was a much better ending than that, and they really needed a fifth installment anyway to wrap it all up.

:boxing:

If you want to know which one I think is the "worst" one, I think its III.

Rocky V just seemed "cheesy" to me. Maybe if it had been executed just a little better...

You can love Rocky V all you want (hell, I like it) but don't you DARE put down Clubber Lane and Rocky III. EVA!!!!

Rocky V was the natural evolution of the series: Rocky retires and trains another fighter, ultimately that fighter turns against him. But the execution was lacking and the whole deal with Sly Jr. was just bad.

Yeah...at "Get him dad, HE TOOK MY ROOM!!!" I wanted to vomit.

I stated this in the Rocky poll from about a week ago, but I'm probably one of the few people you will find that actually liked V. Not that I think it was particulary great, but I see what they were doing with the idea of Rocky going back to his roots and then training a younger guy, but then he's gets turned into the sort of Anti-Rocky by a crooked promoter because there was no Mickey to serve as Tommy Gunn's heart and Rocky wasn't strong enough to be that emotional center, but he is at the end after he sorts of 'absorbs' the final life lessons and love of Mickey.

The rumor for years is that they are going to do a Rocky VI with Rocky, Jr. going into the ring.

The idea behind Rocky V wasn't too bad. In fact, I felt it was a nice way to wrap up the series.

The execution on the other hand. I felt it was a bit cheesy, but as long as there is never a Rocky VI I won't hate on it as much as I do other movies that have run their course *coughJAWScough*...

Weren't there rumors that Rocky was actually supposed to die at the end of Rocky V?

Yeah, I read that somewhere recently...where...did...I...read...

Like everyone has stated I had no problem with the story in Rocky V just the execution of it. The most major problem was the casting of Sly Jr.

i think rocky V (or a rocky 6) with Tyson in ti would be great.. Tyson did a great job in "Black & White"

I didn't mean to say I didn't like III to the above, but it seemed the most bland one to me, outside of Mick's death.

III is easily the most entertaining. Maybe not the best movie, but most entertaining by far. And I am sorry to inform everyone, but Rocky VI is all ready in preproduction. Stallone has started to make the media rounds including ESPN saying he is in training for it, and that the "villian" this time around is "a 230 pound version of Allen Iverson". Stallone also says that the guy is like the mirror image of young Rocky, but he dosen't know if he has the heart yet.

Sadly, about the time they started filming Rocky V, a newspaper around here ran a story as an April Fool's Joke that the villain in Rocky V would be a Martian.

As I said, it was an April Fool's Joke, and not a very funny one at that.

How is that sad?

Sounds like some kind of anti-Martian racist jab, and not the kinds ol' Rocky throws, neither!

It's sad because it might have made for a better movie...

In the original Screen play for Rocky I, Balboa throws the title fight, and uses his loser's "purse" to buy Adrien a pet store, end of movie.

That is probably one of the five or ten worst movie endings I've ever heard. Besides if that ending went down there'd be no Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago!

Rock 5 was pretty ok, but actor's kids amost always suck, see Godfather 3 and you'll nedd no further evidence.

The best villians in teh series were Mr. T and Drago and I'm torn as to which I liked better but "You will lose" and "I must break you" are great lines do I lean towards Drago. Plus the training scene in 4 is cool as hell.
