Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2003 Everett to join Alomar in revamped White Sox lineup The White Sox are not going to give up on their season. Not by a long shot. In their second blockbuster move of the day, the White Sox have agreed to trade three minor leaguers to the Texas Rangers for outfielder Carl Everett, ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago first reported. Everett has a no-trade clause, but will waive the clause and accept the deal. The trade will be announced after Tuesday night's Rangers-Angels game, ESPN has learned. Everett was not in the starting lineup for the Rangers. Chicago will let the Rangers pick either two or three prospects from a pool, a baseball source with knowledge of the trade told The Associated Press. The White Sox will also receive cash from Texas to offset part of Everett's $9.15 million contract. Earlier in the day, the White Sox acquired second baseman Roberto Alomar from the Mets for three prospects. Everett is having a terrific season for the struggling Rangers. He's hitting .274 with 18 homers and 51 RBI. He is eligible to become a free agent after the season. Chicago beat Minnesota 6-1 Tuesday night, knocking the Twins out of the AL Central lead. Despite being only 41-42, the White Sox are just three games behind division-leading Kansas City. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted July 2, 2003 I think Everett has been on his best behavior this season. With Manuel being laid back and have to handle Frank Thomas this shouldn't be too bad.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 2, 2003 Oh Yeah White Sox are GENIUS Thomas, Alomar, Everett? Whew. Ought be an explosive meltdown.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 2, 2003 Well, now Alomar can spit in the umps face and then Everett can follow him with a quick headbutt and then go and start fights with the Chi-Sox's 4th outfielder and cuss out the manager and then blame all his problems on the media and and racism in town. Al, Frank Thomas has beeen generally considered to be an asshole for teh last 4-5 years. His manager hates him, his teammates don't really care for him either. I think the Everett move is a mistake. I don't think he'll thrive under anything but the ironfist of Buck Showalter. Carl is totally a guy who will take a mile if given an inch. And once he's given that inch once, takes a mile and is allowed to get away with it and then does it again and again he feels that he is entitled to it. So when a manager tries to disipline him he flips his fucking wig and goes nuts. He's an idiot and an asshole.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 2, 2003 That was 7 years ago that Alomar did that. It doesn't make it any less bush league, but every story I've read says Hirshbeck has forgiven Alomar, and Alomar is very active in working with a charity started by Hirshbeck. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 3, 2003 I know the outcome of it but I found it amusing that the Sox would get two guys who have had very high profile problems with umpires and attitude problems, as well as declining skills. And don't give me the "Everett has had a good first half" bull shit that I've heard. He had a great first half in 2000 and then went down teh shitter for 2 1/2 years and he hasn't exactly kept his early season numbers up this year.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 4, 2003 Just take a look at the White Sox centerfielders this year. Everett at his worst is still an improvement.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted July 4, 2003 I don't know what to think of the deals. Alomar has been a good ballplayer everywhere other than New York, has a level head, and he's not that old. Everett, on the other hand, will so be a bust. Everything about him just screams douche bag. Oh, and don't look now, but Frank may be on the way to some good stats this year. I await his contract hold out next spring training, as well. And..with the firesale well under way for the Texas Rangers, it just means that I can score a lot more free tickets this year than I normally could. Sucky free baseball is still free baseball, and the ballpark is nice.
