Guest MideonMark Report post Posted July 3, 2003 Dunno why I chose 1997, just seems like a good year to discuss. Anyway I wasnt a member of the IWC in 1997 and Im sure a lot of you werent. So say this was 1997, what would smarks be praising or complaining about in the WWF -Who would you be complaining isnt getting a big enough push -Who would be smark favourites( a la Kurt Angle ), and who would be least favourites -Who would you be complaining shouldnt be on top and is getting to hard of a push, is taking up to much TV time etc. ( like HHH today) -What young wrestlers would you see the potential to be main eventers -What young wrestlers would you be complaining are getting too much of a push too soon -What indy wrestlers or wrestlers from other companies would you be wanting the WWF to sign Etc. If there are any more topics or questions like these ones, feel free to add more or add other years

chaosrage 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2003 There wasn't too much to complain about in 1997. 1-Who would you be complaining isnt getting a big enough push Nobody really. Owen was getting pushed. He had the IC title for a good part of the year, and the tag belts for almost an entire year. He pinned Austin clean at Canadian Stampede, was on route to becoming the top face aside from SCSA at the end of the year. It was 1998 that messed things up. Mankind and HHH were taking off. There was those awesome interview segments with Foley. They brought back Dude Love and Cactus Jack, he won tag team gold with Austin. And HHH won king of the ring of course, and DX started. -Who would be smark favourites( a la Kurt Angle ), and who would be least favourites HBK, Hart, and Foley -Who would you be complaining shouldnt be on top and is getting to hard of a push, is taking up to much TV time etc. ( like HHH today) Nobody. Austin had 5 segments a night sometimes, but they all worked. -What young wrestlers would you see the potential to be main eventers Owen, HHH, and Foley. -What young wrestlers would you be complaining are getting too much of a push too soon Just Rocky. But remember back in the day when the fans responded and told them someone wasn't ready, and they actually listened? -What indy wrestlers or wrestlers from other companies would you be wanting the WWF to sign. Honestly, no one. I figured RVD and Sabu would just get lost in the shuffle, besides they'd be better used in ECW anyway, and I didn't realize how awesome Jericho was until 98. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2003 I'd be bitching about the Royal Rumble finish and that Bret Hart Vs. Shawn Michaels didn't happen at WM 13. Oh wait, I'm still doing that.
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted July 3, 2003 But you got a great Austin/Bret match, so there ya go.
chaosrage 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2003 Yeah, it's much better the way things turned out. The RR finish let Bret prove that he was the best, made Austin an even bigger thorn in his side, and let him whine about being screwed. Starting one of the best angles ever. If it wasn't for that match at WM, we wouldn't have had the double turn. Would we even have had the Hart Foundation and Canada vs USA then?
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted July 3, 2003 If this were July 1997: People would probably be complaining that Ahmed Johnson is going to face The Undertaker for the WWF title at the upcoming PPV (well, we know how that turned out). I would be questioning why Goldust is going to be in the 10-man tag team match at Canadian Stampede. I would be wondering if HBK was ever going to find his smile. I'd be bitching that we didn't get to see Bret vs. HBK at KOTR. I would be saying that the WWF should get rid of DOA and Los Boricuas.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted July 4, 2003 I had really just came aboard the IWC in late 96 early 97 (Sophmore year in college) and for some reason was more fixated at the start with the on-goings in WCW. But anyway lets see if I can recall some things: -Who would you be complaining isnt getting a big enough push Owen Hart, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho (hey the more things change...) Probably Vader and Mankind as their original WWF pushes were losing steam by this point -Who would be smark favourites( a la Kurt Angle ), and who would be least favourites Benoit, Harts, Austin, Jericho, Flair was still serviceable at that point. Probably most of the WCW crusierweights almost for the guilty pleasure aspect (La Parka, Silver King, Psychosis, ect) And anyone who was getting serious pushes in ECW at the time (Raven, Taz, Dreamer, Dudleys, ect) Least favorites would still be members of The Clique (even if we are setting the clocks back to July of 97) I'm not sure about Hunter though after the MSG incident punishment in 96. Probably Rocky Miavia due to the marks' reaction to him and the way the WWF forced the "Blue Chipper" Character down fans throats -Who would you be complaining shouldnt be on top and is getting to hard of a push, is taking up to much TV time etc. ( like HHH today) Easy, Hogan/Luger/Nash/Hall/DDP/Bischoff/Rodman and the rest of the main eventers of WCW as they waited out the Hogan-Sting feud all year long. On the WWF side, Probably Vader, Sid, I'm sure people weren't thrilled that Taker was given the ball at that point. Blue Chipper Rocky Miavia goes here as well. -What young wrestlers would you see the potential to be main eventers Benoit shouldn't really count here BTW...Jericho obviously, Austin was allready there but was old. Hmmm... Maybe Hunter and Rocky a case could have been made. Ahmed certaintly... -What young wrestlers would you be complaining are getting too much of a push too soon Rocky Miavia of course -What indy wrestlers or wrestlers from other companies would you be wanting the WWF to sign Do you consider ECW indy at the time? If so probably RVD, Raven, Taz, Douglas, Awesome, Rhino, Tanaka, ect
Guest UndertakerHart Report post Posted July 4, 2003 Vader, Rocky, Faarooq, and the Goon sucks. When is Nitro on? Why isn't Bret pushed? HBK is gay! I'm hungry. Chris Jericho isn't been push. Um... Kane sucks. Undertaker vs. Sycho Sid sucked Bring back Cactus Jack Dude Love is too low for my standards. Bret, Sting, Foley, Vince, "insert name" was screwed/ sucked. I'm still hungry. I'm never watching wrestling again Hogan is still wrestling. WCW is full of dinosaurs. I'm thirsty. The Giant/Konnan/Mortis can't wrestle. I hate everything. ECW! ECW! ECW! I'm getting exausted just by sitting in front of my computer. Sunny is hot. Ken Shamrock sucks! I hate mini wrestlers!
Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted July 4, 2003 I disagree with some of you. He called to set this in July 1997. I think several people here will be crying against why this f'n canadians are on their TV. They will cry about Go to Canada, or something like that. Some people will be pro Hart Foundation too. Some will bash Michaels because he refused to job the title at WM XIII. I dont think people will be so interested in HHH.
chaosrage 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2003 Why isn't Bret pushed? LMAO. Bret WAS 1997. Everything revolved around him. As far as Mankind losing steam, well the reason he didn't do much from jan to march was because according to his book, Mick wouldn't sign a contract and his back was in so much pain it hurt him to stand. After that, he main evented April with UT, then turned face in May and went on to get the biggest push you could get without winning the world title.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2003 LMAO. Bret WAS 1997. Everything revolved around him. True, but he SHOULD have left after WM 13, seeing as Shawn Michaels was too much of a prick to job back to him. The whole Canada Vs. USA angle was and still is fawking retarded. True, but he SHOULD have left after WM 13, seeing as Shawn Michaels was too much of a prick to job back to him. The whole Canada Vs. USA angle was and still is fawking retarded. Wha? That was the most exciting time for WWF. It had the hottest crowds. Just look at Canadian Stampede. One week Austin and HBK would be the heroes, and Bret would be evil, the next week it was the opposite. Everybody cheated. It was awesome and kept the angle fresh for months. They really should bring back shades of grey. And I'm not saying he was telling the truth, but on Bret's tape, he said even he was starting to believe HBK had a legit injury. Although since he came back so fast, it made him cast aside all doubt. However, Angle came back from a career threating injury in less than time than that. Maybe he really was hurt, heh. Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted July 5, 2003 If this was 1997 we would be bitching and crying about this PPV tomorrow night. In Your House: Canadian Stampede: July 6, 1997 at Thee Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada: * The Godwinns over The Blackjacks. * Mankind battled Hunter Hearst-Helmsley to a double count-out. * The Great Sasuke over Taka Michinoku. * WWE Champion The Undertaker over Vader. * Bret Hart, WWE IC Champion Owen Hart, WWE European Champion The British Bulldog, Jim Neidhart, & Brian Pillman over Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust, & The Legion of Doom.
