Extremely underated movie

So I go to the Video Update and there's absolutely nothing to rent. So the the clerk reccomends a movie called "Alive". I know its well known but I've never seen it. So I go home pop it in and see a movie that can best be described as incredible.

When the two guys are standing on the mountain at the end and they realize they have  50 miles to climb and the one guy says:

" Do you feel that? I can feel god; and he'll carry us over every rock and tree... I'm proud to be a man, I'm proud to be a man on a day like this."

Well I've never been even remotely moved by anything I've seen on a screen but I actually busted out a tear here. It's a good thing I was alone or it would have ruined me. Definetly one of my ten favariote movies.

The plane crash is the best in any movie I have seen.  The fact that nobody on the plane is screaming or saying anything during the crash was eerie.

One problem with the film is the lack of character development.  I had no idea what most of the names of the characters were until the movie was almost over. Also, the acting left something to be desired.

The film does ask a difficult question: If you and a group of people are stranded in the middle of nowhere, had almost no hope of rescue, and had no food, would you have eaten the dead?

It's been SO long since I've seen ALIVE but any one know if there is a DVD and is worth any thing or should I just spend the 9.99 on VHS?

The crash scene in 'Alive' was well done, but as far as a scene that made me very nervous about boarding jets, it'd have to be the explosion scene on 'Final Destination'.

After that movie, the slightest bit of turbulence had my heart beating in overdrive. Of course, this was all prior to 9/11/01...

The cannibalism scene was at least tastefully done(no pun intended).  While it still made me go 'ugh', it wasn't gory or disgusting like I thought it would be.  I've never read the book, so I don't know how much detail it described, and I think I'm glad about that.

I have not seen Alive for years, but aside from a couple minor plot things that I remember having problems with, it was an enjoyable film.  Nothing to go on a Top 250 list, but far from average.

And Youth N Asia, I'm a Nick Berk mark!
