Yeah, but unlike other movies, I expect good word of mouth to sustain its dominance atop the film industry.

Oh, and did you notice that FINDING NEMO has eclipsed the MATRIX RELOADED in total revenue?

Why? It is just a simple action film like X2. When good films like Reloaded and Hulk can't keep their audiences, what makes you think T3 will? Especially with Pirates of the Caribbean coming out this week.

Finding Nemo should beat Reloaded. One is good for everybody, the other is restricted.

I think it has more to do with the Matrix sucking and Finding Nemo ruling all kinds of arse. That's why films -- the ones that are beneficiaries of good word of mouth -- suffer relatively low dropoffs in each succeeding week. That's why Titanic made 27 million in seven straight weekends and why My Big Fat Greek Wedding continued to rake in a consistent amount of dough each week.

I too was surprised to see Nemo still ranking that high. T3, will plummet by the time 2 weeks have passed.

Word of mouth didn't help X2 retain it's first week number. I can't recall many people saying it sucked after it came out.

Also I'm glad to see 28 Days Later is still making good money.

I don't see why that number should be disappointing for T3. It made what I expected it to make. 72 million in 5 days is nothing to sneeze at. I don't think any of Arnold's last few action films have individually grossed that much in their respective runs at the box office.

Tell that to the studio.

I'm sure they'd also say "that's about what we expected...we aren't disappointed at all".

Doubt it...

Full Throttle will probably round out the top 5.

Not by making 7 million or less.

Nemo and LXG will compete over the order of 4 and 5.

It got some hype, but Dreamworks depended on Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta Jones, etc... to sell the film.

As for next week's top 5... I stand on my prediction.

I think the audiences that used to go see big time blockbuster flicks like X2, Matrix, Hulk, T3, Charlie's Angels, etc are now either

A) waiting for the movie to hit DVD since DVD releases are now so close to the theatrical run

or

B) are pirating these movies, especially how easy it is to cop a VCD copy of a movie that hasn't even been released yet.

Definitely the first option, if any. The download-a-movie-and-watch-it thing isn't nearly as huge as one might think outside of the poor college student/internet adept individual market. You can also chalk up "low" grosses to the increasing blockbuster mentality in not only the moviemaking but in the market, wherein most weekends are breaking some sort of new record yet a lot of those films can still end up failures since they've got no staying power.

And that was as much as T3 was going to get this weekend, with another relative biggie opening at the same time. Did better than I expected it to, actually.

Question for you movie experts -- how many DVDs does a movie have to sell in order to be considered a profit in the DVD market? I'm just wondering because if movies that didn't do as good as hoped in the theaters get a good bit of DVD sales, how much profit is needed in DVDs to offset the box-office losses?...

T3 was awesome!!! Is $22 million considered a flop for Legally Blond 2?

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=le...allyblonde2.htm

Production/Marketing costs = $75 million

Revenue so far = $40 million

Opening weekend gross = $22 million

Legally Blonde 1 figures

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=le...gallyblonde.htm

Costs = $43 million

Revenue = $96.5 million

Opening weekend gross = $20 million

I'm hoping for a BIG drop-off so there will not be a Legally Blonde 3...

It's a sad time when a movie makes 72 million and is considered a flop. I expected Blonde to be #1 and T3 to be #2 so I think it did great. I also agree that it'll probably continue to do well. The fan response has been great to it. A lot more people like it than not. To me it seems to be the most well liked movie of the summer so far over all. With everything else there seemed to be just as many people that hated the movies as liked it, with T3 it seems to be the opposite. But having two big movies opening next week won't help it none.

For some reason I have a worse feeling about Pirates than LXG. First of all, people don't seem to be dying to see pirate movies these days. Secondly, it's supposed to be ok for families but yet the trailers all show ghosts and zombies or whatever which will probably scare parents from taking their kids to it. Thirdly, I think there's a lot of mainstream movie fans that see a movie starring Johnny Depp, automatically assume that it's weird as shit and skip it. This coming weekend, I'm just saying it's wide open. I wouldn't be shocked if T3, Pirates or LXG are #1. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if Nemo is #1 again. haha

WTF is Whale Rider?

13th place with $1,242,123.

How is that, BTW? I loved the trailer. It totally made me want to see the flick. I want to go and sit there in the local arthouse theater and cry like a bitch over this film.

And I personally think Pirates will do fairly well.

From Justin to Kelly went from 17th place to 51st! It made $23,745 last week and has done $4,877,351 overall. Been out 3 weeks and it's already out of the top 50. It was on 185 screens.

And to let you know how bad that is. "Owning Mahowny" finshed one spot higher and was only on TEN SCREENS!

T3 will never make backs its budget

Unless it totally drops off the map in the next month it probably will make enough to pay for it's budget.

When you add in the foreign box office it will have no problem clearing budget and making a profit.

Amen to that. I went and saw LB2 last night. Completely mediocre.

They were hoping that T3 would carry over all the good vibes and energy from T2...

One small problem with that theory...

ITS TWELVE YEARS AFTER THE FACT!!

Arnold and the studios waiting to damned long to make another Terminator movie. Even if the made the thing in 96 or 97, it would have done much better. Not only that, James Cameron hit a home run with T2, and anything that came after it was not going to do as well unless Cameron directed it. The man may be an egocentric idiot, but you cannot argue with his successes.

But this is why any Conan move that comes out, no matter HOW good it may be, will not equal the first move or even the second. The iron is ice cold, no use in striking it now.
