Melrose Place

How many people out there watched Melrose Place? It was the only soap opera I ever watched. I got hooked after having to tape it for my aunt one day. So, does anyone want to discuss their favourite charactors, episodes, moments or opinions of the show?

I was a big fan of 90210 at the time and this was I think a spinoff of sorts so I watched it. The first season was pretty bad but it picked up from there. Michael Mancini was the man and besides Heather Locklear, I thought Jamie Lunar was hot.

First season was not good. My favourite episodes were the ones with Kimberly the uber-pyscho bitch.

Agreed and one can note that the quality of the show went up when Kimberly was the focus and how it slowly but surely went into the crapper when Marcia Cross left the show...

Melrose kicked 10 types of ass. I still watch it, as E! airs it and 9 and 11 am. Agreed that the first season was shit.

The show ruled ... best night time soap opera of all time. Why?

Had a ton of wicked hot characters: Jane, Sydney, Samantha, and whatever the name of the character that Alyssa Milano played.

Had a ton of cool evil characters: Dr. Peter Burns, Dr. Michael Mancini, Amanda Woodward.

Had characters that were so hate-able: Kimberly, Billy, Alison.

I hated the first season, and felt that it dragged on about 1 year too long (too many new characters who I couldn't get into) but when it was at it's peak, I watched it more than Monday Night Football.

Peter and Amanda weren't villains per-say. All of their evil schemes had sound logic going on and they were in the right for the most part.

On the other hand, looking back on it Billy was one big asshole. Granted he didn't come out of the asshole closet until the end of season three but watching the E! episodes it's pretty interesting to watch him and Allison and knowing how he ends up fucking her over.

As for the most evil character ever to appear on Melrose Place, hands down it's got to be Brooke (played by S&TC's Kristin Davis). She ruined Allison's life, stole Billy from her and helped him become evil, blackmailed Amanda about her secret abusive husband and later led him and his mafia cronies to Amanda.

The thing was that for the first three seasons he was the standard bearer for idiocy on Darren Star/Aaron Spelling shows, so how would you know what an ass he really was?

How did Brook get killed off?

She slipped and hit her head on the side of the apartment complex pool and drowned after cursing Billy (who had dumped her) and Allison (who had gotten back at Brooke by marrying her father and driving him to financial ruin and suicide) for ruining her life.

After her death, she returned as a figment of Billy's imagination for one episode where she would be urging Billy to continue being evil and mean. This continued (but without Brooke being seen oncamera) for several episodes before Billy ended up getting humiliated during one of his advertising pitches after taking ghost-Brooke's advice and the plotline was never discussed again...

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Melrose Place. My favorite storyline was definitely the Jane/Sydney/Michael/Kimberly debacle, with the climax being the infamous scene where Jane pushed Sydney into the pool for a catfight, while she was clad in a wedding dress, while they screamed obscenities at each other.

My personal favorite episode was the season finale when Michael was run over by Kimberly (who was wearing a wig and was disguised as Jane), Allison figured out her dad molested her as a child and there was something going on with Jo and someone around the house, but I don't remember exactly what.

They need to put the entire series out on DVD, but I do know they are now showing old episodes on E! during the day, when I'm not home of course. It's almost worth purchasing a TiVO.

Yeah, a very, VERY loose spinoff.

I have no time to dreg up episode guides right now but the premise was that on 90210 a character was doing work on Kelly's home (pool guy maybe) and Kelly had some kind of crush on him...

Anyway Kelly and David (Jenny Garth and Brian Austin Green) make apperances in the first couple of Melrose Place episodes, thus rendering it a spinoff and the two shows are NEVER referenced ever again despite being in the same universe

A more detailed description:

Grant Show debuted as his Jake character on 90210 as a grunt who helped physically set up the outdoor wedding of the parents of Kelly and David. In typical whorish fashion, Kelly tries to seduce Jake and the two temporarily become an item before Jake realizes that he's committing statatory rape and dumps Kelly.

In the first couple of episodes of MP, Kelly drags David and Steve to find Jake and try desperately to win him back. Jake rejects Kelly and sends her and her high school friends packing before he ended up in jail.

And interesting note in the recent MP E! True Hollywood Story special: when the first season was bombing in the ratings, Aaron Spelling's initial idea to save the show was do a 90210/MP cross-over and make MP more connected to the goings on in 90210. The other writers however wanted to sex up the show and move far away from the happy-go-lucky 90210 format and make it more of an over-the-top soap-opera type show. Spelling was swayed and led him to bring on Heather Lockler which ultimately kickstarted it's rise to the top....

Who was the blonde in Melrose Place that was killed at the beginning of Scream 3? I always thought that she was hot in a plain jane kind of way.

Jo's subplot involed her pregnancy, as she got tossed down a flight of stairs by the abusive boyfriend of one of the cast members of Models Inc (which was introduced in the last half of Sesaon 2 before being spun-off into their own series). Both Amanda and Jo were heavily connected to the Models Inc spin-off as Amanda had to work out mommy issues with her mom (who ran Models Inc.) and Jo got dragged into the whole thing when Amanda hired her to be the company's photographer/go-between since Amanda refused to talk to her mom. While refereeing the fighting between Amanda and her mom, Jo befriended a young model who had an abusive boyfriend who hated having his girlfriend be a model and was constantly trying to get her to quit, leading Jo to intercede and arrange for her to break up with said boyfriend, causing him to toss her down a flight of stairs when he tried to drag her back home.
