Guest justsoyouknow Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Just something that I've always wondered about Killswitch Engage...in their video for "My Last Serenade", the lead singer appears to be most certainly white. However, in their video for "Fixation on the Darkness", he appears to be some sort of African-American/Mexican/whatever. I'm just wondering if they have some sort of rotating vocals thing, similar to Queens of the Stone Age, of if there's something that I'm just not getting at all. Any help would be appreciated.
Guest Random Hero Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 I'm not totally sure on this, but I think the first singer(the white one) developed some kind of smoke allergy. Which meant he coudn't perform in clubs or basically anywhere with smoke. So he had to quit, then they brought in the new singer.
Guest Steviekick Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Killswitch Engage's orgininal singer (the white guy) Jesse (I can't remember his last name right now) left because of illness...the smoke allergy sounds correct. He left the band after their second album "Alive of just breathin" released and became the ga-ga metal album of 2002. Everyone loved it, and the band decided to go on without him. Rumors circulated about who the new singer would be...many expected Phillip Labonte (Shadows Fall's first singer) to take over since he's friends with a few of KsE's members, but instead they went with Howard Jones (the black dude) from Blood Has Been Shed. I've seen the band play a bunch of times with both singers (2 with Jesse and 4 with Howard) and they are about equal. I love Killswitch's lyrics, and I hope that Howard is as good a lyricist as Jesse. Their next album is dropping eithe late this year or next spring.
Guest justsoyouknow Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Alright, that's good to know. Personally, I prefer the white dude's (Jesse's?) vocals to the other guy, but that might just be a preference. Thanks for the help, guys.
Guest Steviekick Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 No problem...Howard isn't that bad a vocalist, but their rerecorded version of "Fixation on the Darkness" is really bad. The whole song sounds really bad on it
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Shadows Fall > Killswitch Engage That is all. Carry on.
Guest Steviekick Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I don't know Corey....I love Shadows Fall to death, but they're on the same level as KsE. IMO "Alive or Just Breathing" is overall a much better album than "The Art of Balance".
Guest justsoyouknow Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Alright, I just picked up "Alive or Just Breathing", and it's a great CD, IMO. Corey, while we're talking about Shadows Fall, what are some good SF songs that you would recommend?

Idle Hands Thoughts Without Words Destroyer of Senses Stepping Outside the Circle The Art of Balance and Mystery of One Spirit are my favorites on the SF album. And, No, I am not Corey.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I'll give 3 recs per SF album... Somber Eyes To The Sky "Purity" "Lead Me Home" "Somber Angel" Of One Blood "Of One Blood" "The First Noble Truth" "To Ashes" The Art Of Balance "Stepping Outside The Circle" "The Art Of Balance" "A Fire In Babylon"
Guest Steviekick Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 "Flesh Hold" by Shadows Fall (on "Of One Blood") is the ultimate romantic rejection song EVER.
