Guest jimmy no nose Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/sports/nfl2k4/...ws_6071059.html Visual Concepts has revealed that the next game in its ESPN NFL Football series will feature a first-person mode in which players will be able to view the action from the perspective of a player on the field. In addition, the audio and visual effects in the game will change depending on which position the first-person mode is focusing on--for example, quarterbacks can hear the footsteps of defensive players closing in for the sack, as well as the thud of bodies hitting the ground. "Our fans have been asking us to find ways they can get even more involved in the game," said Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts Entertainment. "We've put considerable resources behind this revolutionary feature and created a game mode that allows you to become any player on the field and experience the game just as they do every time they hit the field." "This is a truly exciting new feature for sports fans, and we're excited to bring it to them and to the gaming community," said Rick Alessandri, senior vice president and general manager, ESPN Enterprises. "ESPN has always been about serving the fans, and these games will really make them part of the action." ESPN NFL Football is scheduled for release this September on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. I don't know if this will be a very cool new feature or if it will not be executed that well, but to me this feature sounds promising. It seems to me like it's something that will either be very good or something that I use once then never again.
Guest Eagan469 Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Here's some media: Movie (AVI - 4.0 MB): http://www.football-gaming.com/2k4/fp/FPFteaser01.avi
Guest El Satanico Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 I don't like it. I'd use it once just to try it, but that's it.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Add to the fact that it's an entire mode in itself (meaning not a camera angle you can switch out of), it doesn't really appeal to me.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Interesting -- I've always been a Madden guy but this may get a rental and possibly a buy...
Guest Flyboy Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 ESPN NFL Football is a must-buy for me along with Madden. First player vision + me being running back = lots of touchdowns.
Guest Lightning Flik Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Hm. ESPN just sold me into at least giving it a rental and maybe a buy. Although, I think I'll still go with NCAA just because it seems like the best overall...
Guest cartman Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 I can't remember exactly what game it was but this has been tried before and FAILED miserably.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Breakdown of upcoming football games coming out: NCAA Football 2004 - the gameplay simply owns all the others, in my opinion. Tons of teams, Dynasty mode is fun, and commentary is top notch. Madden 2004 - Franchise Mode. Owner Mode. Thank you, I'll buy. The fact that I can take my rookies I've drafted through mini-camps to improve him incording to how I perform is beautiful. ESPN NFL Football - gameplay is better than Madden, but not quite NCAA's level. The PRESENTATION is fucking awesome. There is no other in this category. Improved play selecting screens. I would comment on NFL Fever 2004, but I do not know anything about it. I'm going to try my best to buy all three.
Guest Eagan469 Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 I can't remember exactly what game it was but this has been tried before and FAILED miserably. Madden 64
Guest Eagan469 Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Oh yeah, the EB near me has a pre-owned X-Box for $134.99. Should I get it?
Guest Flyboy Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 YES. Get that XBox. I'm getting one in a few weeks.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Fever is behind all the other games but they do have the newest feature that I'm excited about. You can throw the ball not just by pressing the button for the reciever every play...but to a spot on the field to lead the receiver or whatever...and the receiver will break pattern to go get it. That and first person mode are the two things I've always wanted to try.

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 NCAA Football 2004 is out this week.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 ESPN NFL Football is a must-buy for me along with Madden. First player vision + me being running back = lots of touchdowns. So you would think. I like the fact that they allow you to turn your head, but in regular games, you can see behind yourself. The effect seemed a little disorienting but maybe you get used to it after a while. I also want to see how the spacing works out for stuff like fumbles and catching the ball. They mostly showed tackles in that clip. It looks cool and I want to try it, but I won't be sold on this feature until I get to play it.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 I'm not buying EPSN just for that one feature, though. I'm mostly buying it because I prefer the gameplay over Madden's. Plus, Sega Sports owns sports gaming with their presentation.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted July 15, 2003 Report Posted July 15, 2003 That's understandable. I'm willing to bet money that the presentation of this game wil be better than Madden's, but I prefer EA's college football games to anything out there right now. I'm betting that the first person mode would be great for replays, but since the first person camera is a seperate gameplay mode, I'm assuming that they don't allow you to view replays from first person. I'm not trying to be too negative because it did look fucking cool.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 15, 2003 Report Posted July 15, 2003 I prefer EA Sports' college football games other than anything else as all. I'm stoked that 2004 comes out tomorrow. I give Madden the slight edge over ESPN NFL Football simply because of it's Franchise mode. I prefer ESPN's gameplay over than Madden, though. NCAA's gameplay owns them both, though.
