Guest chirs3 Report post Posted March 30, 2002 Ice Age Starring the voices of Ray Romano, Dennis Leary, and someone else whose name I really should know. Plot: Well, another ice age has come. All the animals are migrating south... except one. Manfred the Mammoth (Ray Romano) is heading up north, to get away from that annoying thing called "civilization". Along the way, he runs into Cid the Sloth. Cid got left behind on the migration, like he does every year. He starts to run after the group, but he ends up pissing off some rhyno's by accident. He runs into Manfred, and thus begins the unwanted friendship we've seen hundreds of times before. Meanwhile, a pack of Sabretooth tigers plans and executes an attack on a human encampment. The leader of the tigers, Soto, wants a human baby, in revenge for a few of his pack members killed. Diego (Dennis Leary) tries unsuccessfully to snatch the kid, and ends up driving the child and its mother to jump off a cliff to escape. Manfred and Cid come across the woman, who gives them the baby. Diego crosses their path, and after claiming he just wants to return the baby to the humans, he begins leading them to his pack... Cliffhanger! The good: Ray Romano was absolutely perfect at his part. The others all ranged from decent to great, but only Ray's voice felt irreplaceable. Of course the whole movie looked pretty, being computer generated and all. There are lots of things in the movie to keep adults amused, even getting them to laugh once or twice, and plenty of slapstick for the kiddies. The bad: Um... not a whole lot... I found Cid to have JarJar syndrome off and on. Which means he'd sometimes be more annoying than funny. It doesn't happen too often. And the whole movie is incredibly predictable, but come on, who didn't see that one coming? *rimshot* Bottom Line: A good movie for kids and grownups alike. It's the first time in a while I've left a movie smiling. Chirs3 gives "Ice Age" 9 psychotic nut-burying squirrels out of 10. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
