Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted July 11, 2003 For anyone who hasn't paid attention to 411's columns in the past couple of months, they've been running an elimination tourney of wannabe columnists and have now come down to final two. Topics such as "Who from today's wrestling scene would have you have main event WrestleMania 21?" and "Should the WCW name be brought back?" articles have revealed some interesting, insightful, and even dim-witted thought. This week's rather blows though. Their parting shots is the same time of bullshit I'm getting tired of on this forum. Talk of people being held down, comparing Triple H to Hitler, whining about McMahons ruining the product, etc. I shot this mail off to Jay Bower, who's organizing the whole thing. First of all Jay, I've enjoyed RantWars. Thank you for hosting this. I'm sure it must take a lot of work! Please do not think I am blaming you for what other people are submitting, but my mouth dropped reading the Finals today. What exactly was the topic for the Finals? Was there one? I ask because I can't bring myself vote for either of these guys, frankly. I understand that the finalists have been selected by the public, so that in essence "we have nobody to blame but ourselves" (I refrained from voting or even commenting until now because I felt it wouldn't be "right" as a guy who sent in an article) but the depressing whines in these final articles are nothing like the ones that preceeded them. Both these final shots are "smark" style rants that I can find any day on any particular messageboard. After reading the first, which basically 'ditto'-ed Scott Keith while nostalgically thinking about the old days (I did find his talk about British wrestling and clotheslines interesting though), I had high hopes for the second. Those hopes were dashed. I'm sorry, but "Fuhrer Helmsley?" I don't like Triple H because I find him to be slow and boring, but destroying more careers than Hulk Hogan? Not only is that tired, but it's just wrong. Again, in the past these two have written some quality stuff. I'm just curious if there was a pre-planned theme here or what, because these final articles are both wordy versions of complaints filed by an an ungodly number of internet fans. There is enough guys named "BenoitRulz348584" bitching that HHH needs to job more. If there was no common theme and it was a coincidence they both happened to be making these similar rants, then I find it scary the creativity disappeared without a pre-defined topic. Sorry for ranting (LOL!), and I look forward to Wars II. Anybody else notice how the IWC as a whole is beginning to parrot the most always-negative people on this board (and don't get me wrong, we have a few posters who will always bitch and moan about the WWE no matter what they do)? Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 12, 2003 One of the reasons why I don't go to a lot of other wrestling sites anymore. I get enough of the garbage like that, right here on the Smart Marks forum!
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted July 14, 2003 *cheap pop* I guess there is a reason why that is, though I try not to let other people's opinions and views affect the way I think, mainly because I view that people such as RRR are far too negative on the WWE and as such, see them as people with no lives. Why do I say that? Well, why would you spend so much time criticizing and hating something you *supposedly* don't watch at all, and preach to others about the alternatives. I'm not necessarily singling out RRR in particular, but he is the personification of the cynical Smark, possibly even more so than Scott Keith (at least he still enjoys some aspects of wrestling, and could admit to being a fan). I find it to be just such a waste of energy and time that oculd be devoted to something that you truly love, or hell just anything productive and/or progressive in their lives rather than spending hours, who knows DAYS, antagonizing themselves over every single detail and thing about something they visibly loathe. Regardless of the fact that they may have USED to be wrestling fans, their wet dreams of the good ol' days does not serve them a purpose on this, or any internet board/column/site save for perhaps forums dedicated specifically to discussions of 'old school' wrestling (like our very own Old School forum). That is all. Talk amongst yourselves, I'm ferklempt. *makes odd face*
