Why I hate Zach Gowan, and Why it's Vince's Fault.

Anglesault-

We actually agree 100% on something.

I HATE Zach Gowan as well. God bless my adopted city for booing him as well.

Hopefully his novelty wears off very quickly

Absolutely right.

And to quote a certain unnamed writer..."T-shirts with the sleeves cut off are usually worn to call attention to muscles, not to a lack of them."

I hate, hate, hate Zach Gowan.

The fact that people will have to lay down for a guy who is probably physically inable to kick an infant's ass sickens me.

I can't stand his whiny attitude, his shitty acting, and the fact that the only reason anyone gives him a chance is because he's a sideshow act.

Christ, well put sir, well fuckin put.

I'd like to add that while i'm sure he's a nice guy, at the end of the day, he's just not very good or any more capable than the average indy cruiserweight. That in itself is a tremendous accomplishment seeing as he is missing a leg and all but frankly, there are guys named Chris Daniels, Low Ki, AJ Styles and god knows who else out there who can work absolute circles around him, are likeable AND can work the mic respectively in some cases. I think thats my main beef with him. He's there because he has one leg and no one in the WWE seemed to notice theres quite a few guys who are tons better and dont' come off like annoying shits you just wanna smack.

On a final note, him "running the ropes" requires such suspension of belief that my head almost explodes.

He looks as if he's in a sack race, without a sack. Its so silly.

You know, that column could have been 3 paragraphs longer as this issue is actually a pretty original one and there's a lot of new subject matter to bitch about... I mean discuss...

Did the T.O. fans actually BOO him? Like, was it loud or loud-enough-to-hear?

well this is a traveling circus, isn't it? There should be an attraction for everybody.

It also doesn't help when Steph calls Zach "everything that is good and pure in life"...

If this was 97 Austin would have stunned him 10 times by now.

Maybe so, but when I go to the circus, I tend to avoid the guy biting the heads off chickens.

Then again, I don't go to the circus. I dislike clowns and elephant shit.

But this being 2003, Triple...I mean KANE should have defiled his dead body by now. So it STILL doesn't make sense.

so you dislike Doink and Big Show. Fine by me.

The analogy I was trying to make is that WWE should be like the circus, and how WCW was for a while to some degree, by offering something for everyone. Have some good cruiserweight action for the fans of that, some hoss slobberknockers for JR, sports-entertainment segments for the marks, and in this case, the weird side attractions, such as really fat tall guys, or big guys who lift big things to justify a poorly-thought contract, and now a guy with one leg.

I sort of touched on this, but damnit, it's also hard to get behind a guy who you just CAN'T LIKE. The main reason I can't watch Law and Order: CI. I don't LIKE the main character. Don't make an unlikeable guy someone we're supposed to get behind.

I forsee another column on this after the PPV when his actual matches start.

I personally think Rhyno would be perfect for the first demolishing of the lil SOB. Repeated gores to the good leg, I demand it.

Although on a serious note, wouldn't it be almost inevitable that this guy's knee is gonna explode eventually? Your not supposed to drop your full body weight down on one leg even if you do just weigh 150 or whatever the poor fool weighs. Hell a sprained ankle would be crippling, let alone tearing a quad.

That's why I don't like 'Being John Malkovich' - there isn't a single decent person in that movie besidies JM. I can't 'get behind' any of the lead characters.

Gowan is so fucking cookie cutter. And I _like_ cookie cutter - I mark out for cookie cutter Eddie Guerrero promos - but this... this... say your prayers, take your vitamins, walk old ladies across the street, bathe the homeless, and golly-gee do your best cause that's what Zach Gowan is all about!

That's why he really should be moving with the prosthesis.

And each time it would have received a bigger pop than when he won against Show.

Anyway, I don't hate the guy, but the novelty has worn off. After seeing him hop around on his one leg once already, I don't really want to see that again. It was just that creepy. He is also rather obnoxious, I agree with AS on that.

Gowan said so himself that he wouldn't have been given a second look if he had two legs. And with that physique (the sleeveless T-shirt comment was right on), how can that be denied? So essentially he knows that he's a circus act. So what is WWE then? A carny show or a display of athletics? It seems to me that they want to be one or the other when it happens to suit them the most. Yet, if someone (and I know plenty of someones) cuts down WWE for their carnyness, they won't give the athletic aspect the time of day. It's true.

Oh, a word to those who will counter with USA Today: two words - David Arquette. Did THAT do anything for the industry or the company involved? Think about it.

Biggest problem with the guy is that everyone booked against him is in a lose-lose situation.

If you go over him, who cares, he's missing one leg...he's a cripple. Doesn't do anything for your credibility as a performer, since Joe Blow is sitting in front of his tv thinking, "how hard is it to beat a guy with one leg?" or "even I could beat him!"

And the guy Zack is booked to go over. Christ, what must be going through his mind? If he loses in a fair contest, well, say goodbye to his career. And even then, the only way for Zack to win WITHOUT shitting on the loser is with someone holding his hand along the way, interfering on his behalf in all his matches. And I hate interference.

Gowan said so himself that he wouldn't have been given a second look if he had two legs.

Thankfully. Now I won't feel too bad saying it myself... IF he had two legs, he'd just be another indy guy with nothing special.

Funny how everyone jocked him before and heralded him as an amazing worker.

Then reality set in...

...And an ungodly main-event-level-take-up-all-the-tv-time-and-not-do-a-thing-with-it-other-than-stroke-the-mcmahons'-ego-and-keep-the-attention-away-from-the-real-talent push.

So in other words, business as usual. ^_^

Anyways, yeah, I got sick of Gowan about the third week in. By that time it was pretty obvious he was just a sideshow act.

I'm kinda wondering exactly how overbooked that Vince/Gowan match is going to be to make it seem, you know, watchable.

Once again, save your Zach hate for Vince.

None of you would be stupid enough not to take this push that Vince is giving him if you were in his place, even though its utterly ridiculous in itself. Zach is yet another vehicle that the McMahons can salve their huge ass egos on, particularly Vince.

Don;t hate the player, hate his boss.

I hope that his career in the WWE, as a wrestler, does fail. I don't want to watch a one legged wrestler. I'm sorry.

Also, I think that article would've been better without the vulgar language. I'm not against cuss words, but in this case if made it come off as immature, childish & unprofessional.

Just my opinions.

Um, no. Ask yourself - who gets the 'flashback' video recap at the beginning of the show just before the opening? Or is constantly mentioned in the website preview of Smackdown (or, in last week's case, the only wrestler mentioned)?

Maybe this week will be different, but right now Lesnar and Angle play second fiddle when it comes to the priorities of SD. And the Vince/Gowan match will be heavily promoted, just like their feud has been.

By "sideshow act", I meant that all Gowan has going for him is the fact that he's only got one leg, ie. people will want to see him because he looks different.

...if someone cuts down WWE for their carnyness, they won't give the athletic aspect the time of day.

You know, I used to think about what wrestling (WWE) would be like if it was on Sportscenter. Could you imagine watching Sportscenter and hearing if Triple H defended the World Title or not in between Tiger Woods and MLB?

Would that make the "sport" more legitimate, or more of a laughing stock? Yeah, we all know that wrestling is scripted, but that doesn't mean that it's not damn athletic. It's a helluva lot more athletic than Golf or Bowling...

its worse still that the WWE roster will have to bend to the McMahon wishes just to deal with this kid.

Zack is the product of the McMahon..

"OOO I better fix the company Quick"

scheme.

Im of the opinion that this push hes getting will end, and after a couple of months of him not being able to put out good matches will result in him being sent to OVW where he'll probably end up retiring with a nice story to tell his grandchildren -

Zach (some odd number of years from now)- Did I ever tell you about the summer of 2003?

Grandkid #1 - No

Grandkid #2 - Tell us!

Zach - Well...that was the summer that I feuded with Vince McMahon over a contract with WWE!

And then I beat the Big Show in a tag match with Stephanie McMahon. Then I beat Vince in a match at the big PPV, and after that I had a couple of big matches and then I got sent down to OVW..thats where I met your mother (Insert female wrestler down in OVW here)..

Grandkid #2 - The Big Show?...Vince McMahon?

Grandkid #1 - WWE? OVW?

Zach - ahh..well..never you mind..you need to finish your homework..
