Site asks Susan Smith to withdraw Penpal add

COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 11) - The Web site that accepted a personal ad from convicted child killer Susan Smith seeking pen pals from her prison cell asked her Friday to withdraw the ad because the result has been ``kind of a freak show.''

 

``However, if Susan wants to keep the ad, we won't force her to get rid of it,'' said Jason Roberts, a spokesman for the Edgewater, Fla.-based writeaprisoner.com.

 

Roberts said Smith's online ad has gotten hundreds of responses but was becoming a distraction from the site's mission of helping other inmates make contacts in the outside world. He also said the media attention to the ad was overwhelming.

 

Smith, who is serving a life sentence, gained notoriety in 1994 for going on national television to tearfully plead for the return of her missing sons. She later admitted strapping 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alex into their car seats and rolling the sleeping boys into a lake.

 

``I hope to receive letters from those who are not judgmental and who are sincere,'' reads the ad, accompanied by a photo of a smiling Smith, 31, wearing sweat pants marked ``SC Department of Corrections.''

 

In the $40 advertisement, posted last month, Smith says, ``I will always hurt for the pain I've caused so many, especially my children.''

 

``I love rainbows, Mickey Mouse, the beach, mountains and waterfalls,'' the ad reads. ``I consider myself to be sensitive, caring and kind-hearted. I'm currently serving a life sentence on the charge of murder.''

 

The ad ends with the words: ``May God bless each one of you!''

 

Corrections Director Jon Ozmint confirmed Friday that Smith paid for the ad with a check from her South Carolina Department of Corrections account. Prisoners often have accounts for the small amount of money they earn doing jobs behind bars.

 

Smith's personal life has made headlines before. Two prison guards were disciplined for having sex with Smith three years ago. One was sentenced to 90 days in jail, the other was put on probation.

As a South Carolinian myself, this chick gets weirder every time she's in the news. I still remember back when everything with her went down. Probably one of the worst things I've ever seen unravel.

 

On a sidenote, if you take it completely out of context, that's the funniest personal ad ever. Unfortunately, I can't keep it out of context and it becomes sad again.

I swear, Jesus must be a prisoner somewhere. Every psycho who gets life in prison for chopping people into little pieces ends up "finding religion." I've long thought it's a cynical ploy to get out of jail early.

 

Anyway, fuck Susan Smith. I hope she dies in prison without ever receiving one letter from the outside world.

When the wealthy man, with whom she was having an affair, would not marry her, and her husband wanted a divorce and the kids, Susan tried to commit suicide and take her boys in the same action. Driving her car into a lake off a boat ramp, underwater, she could not follow through and saved her own life. Then she blamed her boys disappearance on a black man. Then she cried to the cameras and reveled in the national attention. But eventually she was caught in a lie as to the location of the car-jacking.

 

She killed her children for her own self-interest. Is it surprising all her statements contain the word "I" ?

 

What she was thinking when she wrote down her characteristics was, "I consider myself to be selfish, cold, and mean-spirited. I am currently relieved to be serving a life sentence for murder, instead of being dead in the ground, from an injection of 'Pentathol, then succinyl choline, then potassium'

 

Believe me, I don't want her wish for God to Bless me.

Nope, that post was aimed at Susie-Q to summarize her story; To prove the point the she is a lying sack-a-chit, selfish, cold-blooded, opportunist, murderer. Although I must say I don't think political party status matters much in this case. Heck, I always thought she was a Republican. Not like it matters much anyway -- although I wonder if whatever party she's registered to sends her mail asking for campaign contributions...
