Why hasn't someone asked to check Sosa's bat?

Recommended Posts

You know considering Sosa has suddenly gone homerun crazy again and he hit one today that just barely went out I'm surprised Bobby Cox or some other manager doesn't ask to have his bat checked at this point. Is it just they want to be polite? If anything I'd do it just to get in his head and when your out to win you need to do what you can, within the rules, to win. I'm not trying to say Sosa is corking but what really do you have to lose?

Nothing at all. I think that's a good point. I also think there is absolutely NO chance that it is corked, but why not get inside his head?

Maybe Lou Piniella will be crazy enough. But I don't think they play the Rays.

Because MLB wants to put it behind them and No manager would want to put himself through that constroversey...

But what if it explodes again? He's finished forever. That's not a risk worth taking.

If he's not corking at all, how exactly would you get in his mind by asking for his bats to be checked?

Actually, Sosa was playing the Rays when the cork was found

It'll be hilarious to find someone that has a cork in their bat at the all-star game

Hell I say give everyone in the all-star game a corked bat.

Make it a more entertaining game since it means nothing.

Don't tell Bud that...This year, the game is justice, and possibly rule.

I'd say probably because nobody want to be accused by Pedro Martinez of being a racist, but then Ripper will say mean things to me.

My real guess is that nobody would think Sosa's that dumb to use a corked bat now after being recently busted with one...

If I were managing against him and he hit an important homer, you're damn right I'd ask for the bat to be checked. I know Sammy's one of the "good guys," but he's been busted once already, so there's always the chance he'd do it again.

If you'll recall, Sosa was on the DL with a toe injury, which was on the foot that most of his weight went onto when he swings. When he returned, he wasn't able to put the same kind of pressure on it, messing up his batting style, hence the slump. The toe's fine now, hence he's back to regular form.

Something I read in the most recent Peter Gammons. Someone who worked for the Red Sox said that Ted Williams used special corked bats during batting practice to put on a show for the fans. Know Gammons is a Sosa fan, but he's also a Red Sox and Ted Williams fan has well. It doesn't prove anything. Just something I'd toss out.

HEY!!! How come you said something about me and I can't think of a comeback that would be funny enough. Why are you holding me back with your more clever post.

you ~RACIST!!

And what happened to the Cynthia McKinney avatar...

you ~SEXIST

Oh, and I definately would say check his bat if the homerun was REALLY REALLY meaningful. I mean, if you are winning 7-1, why waste the time. In a 3-3 game, I would check his ass. It might piss him off and have him swinging wildly the next time to fuck with you and get a strikeout. I think it would get in his head that someone DARED say that he did the corking thing on purpose.

I wouldn't It would be a really classless move in general. Besides, I think every team has a bat corker or two.
