Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Saw this on SI.Com. SI is celebrating their 50th anniversary. One of the question they asked was biggest sports villain for your state. For Minnesota. Anything relating to Wisconsin. Bud Selig, Carl Pohlad, Red McCombs. Number one however would have to Brett Favre. I have no problem with the guy, but he's hated here.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 (edited) My state? Hell, I don't know. First thought that comes to mind for PA *I lived/will live on the western side, so my answer will be skewed* is Roger Marino who was a top exec/owner for the Pittsburgh Penguins. I don't know if he's still with the organization, but several years ago he basically threatened the city to build some high-priced seats in the Civic Arena, but the problem was the seats were worse in regards to comfort and leg room than the reast of the venue. It got so bad the Pens began giving them away with certain ticket packages regarding other seats. I've only lived in the southwest Ohio region for 3 years, so I'm sure someone like Choken One could answer this question better than me regarding the Buckeye State, but my first thought for this area is Mike Brown... Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Most of the rivalries around here are within the state, IU vs. Purdue being the biggest one.
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 anybody who dawns the Maple Leafs Jersey or the Sabres Jersey
Guest DawnBTVS Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 George Steinbrenner easy....maybe Roger Clemens
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Oops I read the topic a bit wrong, but I'm too lazy to change anything. I guess for the whole state of Ohio, it would have to be Art Modell...
Guest Mad Dog Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Art Modell, Mike Brown, John Cooper to some degree since the Buckeyes were consistent chokers for over a decade.
Rob E Dangerously Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 In Kansas City, Missouri: Steinbrenner, the Yankees, Charlie O. Finley, Neifi Perez, Johnny Damon, That motherfucking bastard John Elway, The Oakland Raiders, Al Davis, Nebraska football
Guest razazteca Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Jerry Jones is the owner who wishes he was the coach.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Steinbrenner, Clemens, basically the Yankees in general... if this is all time villains, put Ray Knight, Mookie Wilson, Calvin Schiraldi, Mike Torrez and Bucky Dent on that list... Jason Kidd, but all time it would be Magic, Abdul-Jabbar, Dr. J, and Barkley. Jeremy Jacobs, all time Claude the Fraud Lemieux and Ulf Samuelsson... Charles Duane Parcells, tha Raiders ... I forget his name, who was that really mean bastard from the 1970's Raiders that crippled Darrell Stingley- I think it was in '78/9?
Guest meanmaisch Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 The Delaware Valley (Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Delaware): Phillies owners, Atlanta Braves, J.D. Drew, Scott Rolen, Bob Clarke, Eric Lindros, Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, Michael Irvin, New York Giants, Washington Redskins. I'm sure there are plenty of others that would qualify, but I can't recall them at this time.
Guest BobbyWhioux Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Huh. It probably shifts a lot depending on whether you're in Northern California or Southern California. I'd figure Al Davis frustrates and angers a lot of people in both regions, though, between the PSL's and the meddling with his coaches and playing cities against each other to get stadium deals, and basically for being a paranoid arrogant asshole who begs for the NFL to stick it to him and, by proxy, the Raiders. A lot of people love him for being a "rebel" and a lot hate him for being an ass. Up here, Jason Giambi is still heavily reviled for going to New York and I *THINK* I've seen a sign or two at the Coliseum where he's referred to as "Judas" Giambi. That might just be my imagination though. People still throw back his foul balls. The Dallas Cowboys in general (tapering a bit, but there's still some residual hatred from when Dallas played San Francisco in "The real Super Bowl" several years in a row) and this is certainly much different down south I'm sure, but Kirk Gibson is still an Utter Bastard to A's fans for hitting that homerun. I *HATE* watching that clip.
Rob E Dangerously Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Charles Duane Parcells, tha Raiders ... I forget his name, who was that really mean bastard from the 1970's Raiders that crippled Darrell Stingley- I think it was in '78/9? Jack Tatum
Guest Crazy Dan Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Al Davis is the biggest villian in the Bay Area. I think that many Oakland Raider's fans still haven't forgiven Al for moving the team to LA. And now Al wants to sue Oakland for "lying to me" is just another example of Al's living in his own little world. Art Modell is probably the most hated man in Ohio. I think that if he was to be elected to the Football Hall of Fame, he would become the first man to be booed of the stage in Canton. I also would like to nominate Donald Sterling, for basically being a complete tight wad with his money. This guy cares not to win, but how much money he saves. The Clippers could have been on the brink of being a good, solid team, but will never make because he won't spend the money to keep the team together. And if you are a free agent on the team, why care, when your owner obviously doesn't. Being a Niner's fan, I also think that John York is definately on his way to becomming a villian. Not only does he appear to be in the same mold as the Donald, I think that as long as he makes a profit, he could care less about the winning. Any owner who can not name five players on his team, is defiantely a villian in my book.
Guest The ChriZa Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and the most hated sports figures are probably the Blazers themselves. Just for being such an embarassment, not in their gameplay, but their attitudes and general dickfacedness. Other than that, the Lakers. No question.
Guest DerangedHermit Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 In the NYC/LI area: the Red Sox and Braves, Cablevision management (they helped fuck up the Knicks and Rangers), players who half ass or don't live up to expectations (ex. half of the Mets, the newest Yanks when they're in a slump) and for you old-timers, Walter O'Malley
Guest undisputedjericho Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 NJ? None I can think of, but I bet Kidd would have become one.
Guest starvenger Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 In Detroit, they STILL bring the hate to the Avs and Claude Lemieux. I'm sure that Curtis Joseph will also get warm receptions when he comes in with whatever team he's on. In Toronto, Bryan Marchment is/was probably a big villain. Oh, the irony. Other people include Roger Clemens, David Wells and Tracy McGrady, for abandoning Toronto for other cities. I suppose Greg Rusedski should be there as well (for tennis and Canada as a whole), but he's basically amounted to nothing, so no big deal there.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Can't think of many in Alabama. Maybe Mike Dubose(if you're a Bama fan) for royally fucking up the football program with his stupid shit.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 NJ? None I can think of, but I bet Kidd would have become one. It's okay, what you lack in having villains, you more than make up for in harboring them for other places.
Guest undisputedjericho Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Other people include Roger Clemens, David Wells and Tracy McGrady, for abandoning Toronto for other cities. I don't think it was up to Wells that the Jays traded him for the injured Mike Sirotka, who is now in Tampa Bay after having that one good season. And I ammend my previous statement, NJ isn't too fond of Bill Parcells since he left both the Giants and Jets.
Guest treble charged Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Wells shat all over the fans in Toronto, though, in his book and in other places, as well. Alexei Yashin is a big villain in Ontario, and Ottawa specifically, and as well he should be.
Guest Choken One Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Wells shat on himself so who cares...
Guest treble charged Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Well, I was stating why the Toronto fans don't like Wells.
Guest Redhawk Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Seattle ======= Ken Behring (former Seahawks owner, actually had trucks packed up to move the team to L.A. before he was stopped) Vin Baker Alex Rodriguez (although I don't agree with everyone up here who hates him) Ken Griffey Jr. (just like with A-Rod, I don't agree with the fans' hate of him) Billy Joe Hobert (he started the ball rolling with UW's football sanctions) Rick Neuhisel The Yankees The Lakers
Guest alfdogg Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 The Knicks. That's all I can think of.
Gert T Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 I'm a SW Ohio resident too, so I vote for Mike Brown, and I really hate the Browns, but Art is pretty hated. I believe that Modell will not be elected until he is dead to elect him so he can be spared the indiginity of being booed off the stage. That way Cleveland fans will be known as those who boo dead men. Choken who would be runner up in Cincy area, Bud Selig for not reinstating Pete?
Guest Kingpk Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Boston/New England? Hmm....I think I'll need some of my fellow New Englanders for this, but off the top of my head: Sox owner who sold Ruth to the Yankees Bucky FUCKING Dent Roger Clemens Dan Duquette Magic Johnson/Kareem/The Lakers (not as much now, but they were friggin' SATAN in the 80's) Rick Pitino (pretty much shat on the Celtics legacy. Taking the Team President title from Red? BLASPHEMY!!!) Bill Parcells Pete Caroll (pretty much an idiot as a head coach) I know there's a LOT more, but that's all I got.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Can't think of many in Alabama. Maybe Mike Dubose(if you're a Bama fan) for royally fucking up the football program with his stupid shit. If your a Alamba fan Auburn. If your a Auburn fan Alabama. I realized after I posted this topic, I should of reworded it better. Alot of states have more than one region with a high population. That's not really the case here.
