Who are your States biggest sports Villians

Saw this on SI.Com. SI is celebrating their 50th anniversary. One of the question they asked was biggest sports villain for your state.

 

For Minnesota. Anything relating to Wisconsin. Bud Selig, Carl Pohlad, Red McCombs. Number one however would have to Brett Favre. I have no problem with the guy, but he's hated here.

My state? Hell, I don't know. First thought that comes to mind for PA *I lived/will live on the western side, so my answer will be skewed* is Roger Marino who was a top exec/owner for the Pittsburgh Penguins. I don't know if he's still with the organization, but several years ago he basically threatened the city to build some high-priced seats in the Civic Arena, but the problem was the seats were worse in regards to comfort and leg room than the reast of the venue. It got so bad the Pens began giving them away with certain ticket packages regarding other seats.

 

I've only lived in the southwest Ohio region for 3 years, so I'm sure someone like Choken One could answer this question better than me regarding the Buckeye State, but my first thought for this area is Mike Brown...

The Delaware Valley (Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Delaware): Phillies owners, Atlanta Braves, J.D. Drew, Scott Rolen, Bob Clarke, Eric Lindros, Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, Michael Irvin, New York Giants, Washington Redskins. I'm sure there are plenty of others that would qualify, but I can't recall them at this time.

Huh. It probably shifts a lot depending on whether you're in Northern California or Southern California. I'd figure Al Davis frustrates and angers a lot of people in both regions, though, between the PSL's and the meddling with his coaches and playing cities against each other to get stadium deals, and basically for being a paranoid arrogant asshole who begs for the NFL to stick it to him and, by proxy, the Raiders. A lot of people love him for being a "rebel" and a lot hate him for being an ass.

 

Up here, Jason Giambi is still heavily reviled for going to New York and I *THINK* I've seen a sign or two at the Coliseum where he's referred to as "Judas" Giambi. That might just be my imagination though. People still throw back his foul balls.

 

The Dallas Cowboys in general (tapering a bit, but there's still some residual hatred from when Dallas played San Francisco in "The real Super Bowl" several years in a row)

 

and this is certainly much different down south I'm sure, but Kirk Gibson is still an Utter Bastard to A's fans for hitting that homerun. I *HATE* watching that clip.

Al Davis is the biggest villian in the Bay Area. I think that many Oakland Raider's fans still haven't forgiven Al for moving the team to LA. And now Al wants to sue Oakland for "lying to me" is just another example of Al's living in his own little world.

 

Art Modell is probably the most hated man in Ohio. I think that if he was to be elected to the Football Hall of Fame, he would become the first man to be booed of the stage in Canton.

 

I also would like to nominate Donald Sterling, for basically being a complete tight wad with his money. This guy cares not to win, but how much money he saves. The Clippers could have been on the brink of being a good, solid team, but will never make because he won't spend the money to keep the team together. And if you are a free agent on the team, why care, when your owner obviously doesn't.

 

Being a Niner's fan, I also think that John York is definately on his way to becomming a villian. Not only does he appear to be in the same mold as the Donald, I think that as long as he makes a profit, he could care less about the winning. Any owner who can not name five players on his team, is defiantely a villian in my book.

I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and the most hated sports figures are probably the Blazers themselves. Just for being such an embarassment, not in their gameplay, but their attitudes and general dickfacedness. Other than that, the Lakers. No question.

In the NYC/LI area: the Red Sox and Braves, Cablevision management (they helped fuck up the Knicks and Rangers), players who half ass or don't live up to expectations (ex. half of the Mets, the newest Yanks when they're in a slump) and for you old-timers, Walter O'Malley

In Detroit, they STILL bring the hate to the Avs and Claude Lemieux. I'm sure that Curtis Joseph will also get warm receptions when he comes in with whatever team he's on.

 

In Toronto, Bryan Marchment is/was probably a big villain. Oh, the irony. Other people include Roger Clemens, David Wells and Tracy McGrady, for abandoning Toronto for other cities. I suppose Greg Rusedski should be there as well (for tennis and Canada as a whole), but he's basically amounted to nothing, so no big deal there.

I'm a SW Ohio resident too, so I vote for Mike Brown, and I really hate the Browns, but Art is pretty hated.

 

I believe that Modell will not be elected until he is dead to elect him so he can be spared the indiginity of being booed off the stage. That way Cleveland fans will be known as those who boo dead men.

I realized after I posted this topic, I should of reworded it better. Alot of states have more than one region with a high population. That's not really the case here.
