David Glass wants the all-star game in KC

Glass, owner of the surprising first-place Royals, is intent on bringing the glamour game back to Kauffman Stadium, where it was last held in 1973.

"I will push for the first available year that there isn't a firm commitment and see what we could get done," Glass said.

"I think it would be great to have one here and that our fans would really support it. It's a much bigger event today than in '73 when we had it."

Glass' first call was to commissioner and friend Bud Selig, who makes the decision on the All-Star site.

"Bud got a little defensive with me but said that he certainly understood and sympathized with Kansas City and that he would put us on the list," Glass said.

In recent years, Selig has favored new stadiums for the game, and if that trend continues, Kansas City could have quite a wait.

Hopefully KC can get the game in 2005 over Detroit. That bastard Selig isn't going to try and sway us, our stadium is perfectly fine right now.

The only comment I have for this story is that I find it funny how someone that used to be WAL-MART's CEO whines about his team being crushed by richer, bigger competitors...

Bah...Bring it to Cincy...

Can't you just see ESPN and MLB drooling for that Home Run Exhibition?

It's an much better looking stadium and you have baseball history there...

Since 2004 is Houston...

That means 2005 is an A.L team...

Fine go ahead with KC but K.C isn't that good of a stadium...

Pittsburgh shouldn't get a ALL-STAR game until they have a team...

Pac Bell, Wrigley, and GAB should be the next three. I understand wanting to play in a newer nicer ballpark, but that argument gets thrown on the window when you put the All-Star Game on the South Side.

You've never really been there or seen it, have you?

What's not that good about it?

"Pac Bell, Wrigley, and GAB should be the next three"

The All-Star stadiums go NL/AL, NL in even-numbered years, AL in odd-numbered years.

The next four sites after 2004 should be Kauffman (2005), Pac Bell (2006), Edison International or Comerica (2007) and GAB or Phillies Field or maybe San Diego's stadium.

I've never been to Kaufmann Stadium, but I've heard nothing but praise.

Upon further investigation I notice that I forgot the important words "either" before the sentence and "one of" before "the next 3."

Anyhoo, Comiskey is a shithole.

2004: Minute Maid Park

I propose:

2005: Kaufmann Stadium

2006: Great American Ballpark

2007: Arlington Ballpark

2008: Pacific Bell Park

If Wrigley makes it to 2014, knock on wood, there's NO other place to put the All-Star Game. It'll be the park's centennial.

Give one to Busch Stadium. I don't know why St. Louis doesn't ever hold one. They haven't hosted the game since 1966.

STL is a great baseball city too. Very supportive of their team.

No way Arlington gets the game in 2007 as they hosted in '95. Comerica will definently have it then if it doesn't get 2005. After 2007 though I have no clue where they will put in the AL since there are no new parks on the horizon in the league so probably go to like Yankee Stadium since I can't remember the last time they hosted it. As for future options for the NL:

Pac Bell (SBC starting next year) - San Francisco hosted in '84

PNC - Pittsburgh hosted in '94

Bank One - Arizona has never hosted

Great American Park - Cincinnati hosted in '88

New Philadelphia Park - last hosted in '96

New San Diego Park - last hosted in '92

Wrigley - last hosted in '90

Dodger Stadium - last hosted in '80

Just curious -- how does MLB decide where the All-Star game is hosted? Do they just have a set schedule or what?...

Give them a game when the new place opens up. Busch Stadium is a dump. I don't care if Wrigley had the game in '90, they're getting it for the 100th anniversiary if they make it that long.

^ St. Louis was planned for 2006 at one point but they backed out because of some reason...

Which is why Cincy and Pac Bell are the lead candiates for that slot
