Yes, it's been five long years since that historic tag match at Bash at the Beach '98 that drew mainstream attention on professional wrestling. Anybody have any comments on the match/storyline/media reaction to it?

If It weren't for Leno next month...This would be the match I'd blame WCW on JUMPING THE SHARK.

Never heard of it....unless you meant HOGAN/Rodman v. DDP/Malone.

All joking aside, the match sucked, and went WAY too long for a mid-card talent, an aging main eventer, and two basetball players.

I forgot about this match completely until I rented the tape.

Karl Malone? Dennis Rodman? Hulk Hogan?

Wrestling Match or F-List Celebrity party?

You be the judge...

DDP (booker) headlines FIVE PPV's in a row...

--v. Hogan/Rodman at BATB

--v. Hogan/Bischoff at Road Wild

--v. Sting/Luger/Nash v. Hogan/Bret/Stevie Ray at Fall Brawl

--v. Goldberg at Halloween Havoc

--v. Bret at World War III.

Goldberg, the FREAKING WORLD CHAMPION, main-evented only TWO PPV's during his first reign as champ - adding to that, one which was blacked out due to PPV time constraints (v. DDP), and the match that ended his reign (v. Nash at Starrcade 98).

Wow.

DDP=HHH+GOLDBERG combined...

Correction:

HHH + GOLDBERG - STEROIDS = DDP

DDP was the mid-carder. No matter what people say, theres no way in hell i'd ever see a PPV lineup, see DDP headlining it, and say "Wow, Can't wait for that match" without being sarcastic. Thats just my opinion since I was never a DDP Fan.

and Hulk Hogan, no matter how much i liked him, was NOT the person to have in there, especially with DDP as the only other real wrestler. (DDP from what I've seen is not that good of a worker unless he's facing someone well above him in work rate)

So how do you explain DDP dragging a good match out of Goldberg?

I think Choken One just said it, but the match was like Hogan/Warrior (WM 6)....planned out plenty of times before the show and lots of practice.

The match wasn't THAT Good anyway. I was just so bored from watching Hogan/Warrior II that I couldn't stand having to watch a Goldberg match.

The next Negative for Page?

SCOTT FN STEINER(The Roid Rage Version) took Goldberg to his greatest match...and that wasn't scripted and precisely booked...

It isn't known for it's "WRESTLING" but more for it's booking and the brawling...

Damn. I think I'll dust off the Scott Keith rant for the show to see how good it was LOL.

- Scott Steiner v. Goldberg. Steiner is wearing an Aldo Montoya headpiece tonight. Goldberg gets a quick shoulderblock and snap powerslam, and Steiner runs. Back in, Steiner gets an elbow for two. Goldberg shrugs off some offense and suplexes Steiner. Scott comes back with a Diamond Cutter and belly to belly for two. Tombstone is reversed to a powerslam for two. Spear misses, but Goldberg no-sells the miss and powerslams Steiner anyway. Steiner bails as his hooch wanders out. Into the ring, Goldberg is bleeding, which was given away when he put the gig into his tights on-camera during his big pre-match walk to the ring. Backbreaker gets two for Steiner, followed by a nasty overhead belly to belly. He gets the lead pipe, but Goldberg spears him. Russo then runs in with a baseball bat and lays out Goldberg. They brawl outside and Steiner slams him through a table. Back in, Steiner hooks the REAR CHINLOCK OF DOOM. You know, if he can’t even do his own finisher properly, he should go back to using the Screwdriver or something. Goldberg powers out. Scott tries the top rope rana, but Goldberg pushes off. Steiner keeps coming and gets a belly to belly for two. Back to the chinlock, Goldberg escapes again. That move is such a joke. Goldberg gets a neckbreaker, but Steiner hits him with the pipe, goes back to that stupid chinlock AGAIN, and Goldberg is out at 13:50. All the interference in the last match killed the effectiveness of it here, but the match was pretty brutal on it’s own. ***

WCW World title match: Goldberg v. Diamond Dallas Page. It's pretty sad when Hogan does 20 minutes of every cheap Memphis heel tactic known to man and Jerry Lawler and gets zero reaction, but Goldberg and Page blow the roof off the joint with a straight wrestling match. It's sad in that Hogan is probably going to repeat the same match at World War III and get the World title, not in that straight wrestling matches are bad. I really, really hope the Braindead Suits in charge of WCW are paying attention. Goldberg tosses DDP around out of the lockup to a huge pop. DDP mouths him off and they go tumbling out of the ring. DDP takes down Goldberg, who flips and lands on his feet. Fireman's carry and cross armbreaker from Goldberg. DDP up with a jawbreaker and he takes control with some good wrestling. Goldberg tosses him and DDP with a necksnap off the top rope. Whip to the corner and russian legsweep for two. Goldberg is selling and everything. Front facelock slows things down. Goldberg knees out and spins off a neckbreaker. Suplex variation from Goldberg and a sidewalk slam. He should be wrestling like this all the time. Back with the cross arm-breaker on DDP. Whip and DDP with a flying headscissors, but Goldberg with a superkick. Charge and Goldberg goes to the post and fucks up his shoulder. See, now DDP should have gone to work on the arm, but that's a minor point. DDP with a clothesline off the top for two. Goldberg whips DDP off the ropes with one arm but gets DDT'd. DDP signals for the Diamond Cutter but Goldberg pops up and spears him, further injuring the arm. The crowd is rabid. And he's STILL selling the arm injury! He goes for the jackhammer but the arm is gone and Page gets out and hits the Diamond Cutter! Gets a very dramatic two count. Page tries a suplex but Goldberg reverses to the Jackhammer for the win. Best Goldberg match ever. What the hell, I'm feeling generous. ***3/4

"What the hell, I'm feeling generous"

I was feeling generous when I gave a LUDVIG BORGA match **1/2, doesn't mean it was actually good.
