Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Alright, I often burn CDs with songs on them (duh) and some work and some don't on my XBox, but lately, even the ones that worked at one time don't work. I can't find my XBox manual, but does anyone know what the deal is with what the CD has to be in order to be read?
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted July 15, 2003 It's not supposed to read CD-Rs, and never has for me, but it reads CD-RWs just fine. So I burn what I want to play in my Xbox on RWs.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Weird... One certain brand always seemed to work really well for me. Imation, CD-R, 80 Minutes, 700 MB. Your standard CD-R, and it worked fine.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 15, 2003 What I have heard is that there are 3 different drives that could be in your Xbox and you can tell which one you have by the shape of the hole inside. I dont know much about it, maybe someone else does, but there is one that won't read any CD-Rs, one that will read some CD-Rs, and one that will read pretty much anything. I'll try and find out more about it.

Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Thanks for the list...but damn, my Dad just bought 100 CD-Rs, Maxell, 40x, 700MB. And obviously, they don't work. That's interesting about the certain type of drive. I'd like to hear more about it.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 16, 2003 Here I found some stuff out. There are 3 different companies that put the drives in, Philips, Thompson, and Samsung. You can tell yours just by looking at it. In order those are Philips-Thompson-Samsung. The most common is the Thompson which also happens to be the worst one. It will read a very limited selection of CD-R discs. The Philips reads a few more, but again not that many CD-R types. The Samsung which has been put in most of the newer models will read almost any CD-R. It's possible to have a Samsung drive put in if your really want to, but it's not really worth the cost as it would be far cheaper to just buy a small pack of CD-RWs or even just get a friend to give you one to use over and over again. Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Thanks for the info. I have the Phillips one. I'll probably just buy some CD-RW.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Could you use emulators on CD-RW without a mod chip?
