Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted July 15, 2003 This totally slipped my mind, astonishingly. Tonight I'm at my grammar school's Founder's Day and going out drinking with all the old boys, and tomorrow I'm graduating. Thursday Friday I'm loaded with work, then Saturday I'm going to some fruity castle with the missus and her workmates, so I'll be running round a hedge maze with a bunch of tanked-up lawyers. Which means there won't be any DVD News or Viewtiful Joe review this week. Sorry to anyone that inconveniences for... whatever reason. I don't owe you fuckers NUTHIN. So yeah, back on Tuesday. Cheers everyone.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 15, 2003 All you really need to say is - This game kicks ass. I've played the demo version, and it kicks ass, but apparently Capcom went and improved the overall look and feel of the game even more since then. Since the look and feel of the game were already awesome as it was, I shudder to think how much better it is now with the improvements.
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted July 15, 2003 You're right - the demo is a good indication of the final game, but the finished version has been improved in a number of ways. It still plays pretty much the same, altough there's a shitload of powerups to buy and you don't get all of the demo moves from the start. There's some additional graphical effects, such as the screen being crackly and grainy with a "bad transfer" when you're avergae Joe, and being super crisp and clear when you're Viewtiful Joe. And the game is HARD, especially when you unlock some of the new difficulty settings. It's just fucking ace, but as I said, I'll have a proper write-up when all the madness is over. Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I finally found a place willing to sell me that demo disk. They have it at Best Buy with the rest of their GCN games. For $40.
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted July 16, 2003 Give eBay a try if you've got a PayPal account - got mine for about ten bucks, although ironically I only bought it for the Viewtiful Joe demo, then I ended up buying th efull game a couple weeks later. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 16, 2003 I found the disc for 10 bucks at Target so I went with that. Viewtiful Joe was so fun.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 16, 2003 Eh, the Demo disc also has SC2 playable demo on it. That and the VJ playable demo are the 2 big selling points for the disc, well worth $10 considering neither are out for at least another month (SC2 in Aug, VJ in Sept)

VJ and SCII are both sitting in front of me now! In the UK, there's a really, really defined import culture in gaming, but when I lived in the States, importers seemed to be pretty non-existent. How come most of you guys don't import stuff?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 16, 2003 I like my games like I like my men. In English. ... Or something.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 16, 2003 I like my games like I like my men. In English. ... Or something. I think I remember reading that the Japanese version of VJ was almost entirely in english to start from anyway (Spree can verify this maybe), so a lot of people are importing that since all you need is a modded GC or the freeloader thing. The only thing is that there is/was a shortage when the game first came out in Japan. SC2 is also import friendly I hear.
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted July 16, 2003 Yeah, both VJ and Sould Calibur are totally import friendly. SC2 has got some Japanese text in story mode, but it doesn't take too long to figure out. It was more of a cultural observation, I guess. Here in the UK, we're used to having to wait SO long for games to be released, and on top of hat, for the longest time games weren't optimised for PAL systems, so they ran 17.5% slower and with huge borders at the top and bottom of the screen, so really we import out of necessity I guess. It's just that there are so many great Japanese titles that either never make it to the US (like the first Animal Crossing, although that's kind of a bad example because it had loads of kanji), or don't get released in the west for a long ass time (VJ and SC2 are a good example). Just an observation.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 16, 2003 Importing here in the US I think is almost strictly done for games that will never make it out here, although I think with some of the games that are import friendly importing is being done because people are impatient, not to mention the fact thats it gotten easier to get the import games through the net and you don't have to physically modify your consoles any more. I can wait 1 month for SC2 and 2 months for VJ and longer for FZero, Mario Kart DD etc.
