Vice City coming to X-Box

Recommended Posts

Guest bps "The Truth" 21

XBox is the only system I play.

If things come out on all platforms (which most do) I get it on XBOX.

The list of exclusive games for each system that I'm looking to get in the next year is dominated by XBOX as well

PS2: CastleVania, Silent Hill 3, Socom 2, Resident Evil Online, maybe GT4, and obviously GTA 4 late next year

Total: 6

GC: Viewtiful Joe (probably a rental since I can't see it taking more than 5 days to beat), P.N. 03, Killer 7 (looks SOOOO good), Resident Evil 4, Mania X-9 (if the engine is fixed), and eventual Zelda and Metroid sequels that probably won't be out until late next year...also Mario 128 eventually, and I'll rest F-Zero

Total: 9 (two no better than rentals)

XBOX: KOTOR, Halo 2, Fable, B.C., Doom 3, Half Life 2, Ninja Gaiden, Deus Ex 2, Conkers Live & Uncut, DOA Online, Counterstrike, Psychonauts, and we'll see how RAW 2 looks.

Total: 13 (and with the exception of Killer 7 and Resident Evil 4...every game that I "can't wait for" is coming to XBOX.

That's why I like it anyway.

And it's stupid to rag on the custom soundtrack feature when you don't have to use it. It can't ruin the ambience of a game unless you make it do so. If you never touch the thing it won't change the game at all.

Um...might Sony have a few things to say about this?

Doubtful. They're kind of busy COUNTING TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS right now and are probably too busy to respond.

I literally only bought the system for Halo. Besides that (and now Knights of the Old Republic probably), there literally isn't a darn thing on the system that interests me in the slightest.

Sounds more like a problem with you than the Xbox. =b

I wants my traditional plot-driven RPGs, platform games, and cinematic Metal Gear Solid-esque adventures, dammit!  My PS2 and Gamecube deliver these in droves, why can't Xbox at least have a few unique decent ones?

Spinter Cell, goddamnit!

I guess the X Box might have actually have 3 good games now...WOW.

I can't wait for True Crime, Streets of LA to come out for the Gamecube.  At least its not a port of a year old game with a few extras tacked on to justify the price of $49.99 when GTA:VC will be on the value lineup for the PS2.

Speaking of third party titles exclusive to a specific console

The Capcom 5 -

Viewtiful Joe

Project Number 3 (P.N.03)

Killer 7

Dead Phoenix

RE 4

all exclusively for Nintendo Gamecube..

Capcom is being really nice to us Gamecube owners..

Im not so much interested in Dead Phoenix (which is sorta like Panzer Dragon..eh..) and Im not that into RE4, but the other 3 games are definitely on my must have lists when they come out (VJ and P.N.03 are out in Sept)

Yeah, if RE4 EVER gets released.

Seriously, I am beginning to regret ever getting a Gamecube due to all the titles that don't get released on it...

Resident Evil 4 was announced with a 2004 release the day it was revealed.

It's not like you should be surprised that it isn't out yet.

but if you are like me, and hate Capcom...then there is no point in getting a cube (minus Zelda)

Rockstar's contract with Sony ends with GTA4. After that, they can make any game for any system. IGN reported this earlier this year. They will probably be realising the GTA games for the Cube and now we know definately the X-box. They won't get sued because their obligation to the contract is nearly over.

And how does Sony have any assurances that Rockstar won't do the exact same thing with GTA 4? After all, the contract is over anyway, what's the difference? The difference is Sony gets burned on both titles under the PS2-exclusive contract. The difference is how Rockstar will be perceived.

They'll be percieved as the guys who made the GTA games...and people will follow those games wherever they go.

Granted, the $$$ they bring in is considerable. But what if they piss off the wrong people? I'm sure Sony is pissed already.

Let Sony be pissed.

If Sony is stupid enough to piss off Rockstar in return and drive them to another console in the next generation that's certainly going to be their problem.

See, that's what bothers me. Rockstar is essentially bullet-proof because of a kick-ass series. They're untouchable. They are breaking the contract but it's Sony that has to choose between being Rockstar's bitch or losing the GTA series entirely.

I really don't think Sony is going to care. It's been months and they still get the next one before any other system can even think about it.

But they aren't breaking a contract. The contract was only for x number of games. they have produced GTA 3/Vice City/ and will produce GTA4 with them. Thats all the contract included. Rockstar would be stupid to leap into ANOTHER exclusive contract with Sony when they can make more profits by expanding to other consoles.

from Ign.

April 28, 2003 - After Rockstar Games fulfills its agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment America at year's end 2004 (with the sequel to GTA: Vice City), it will immediately publish Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on GameCube and Xbox, reports Yahoo News.

The article, which focuses on the upcoming rash of mature-rated games (thanks to the immense success of GTA III and GTA: Vice City), includes a conversation with Take-Two Chief Executive Jeffrey Lapin, and new release dates for Project Manhunt, The Warriors and Max Payne 2.

According to Yahoo News, Project Manhunt is due in October 2003, while both The Warriors and Max Payne 2 are due in 2005, the same year the next generation of systems are believed to be launched. The systems on which these games would appear was not revealed. Which leads us to believe -- speculatively, of course -- that both of those games will appear on the next generation of systems (i.e. PS3, GameCube 2, Xbox 2 and the Phantom 2, etc.).

Although we spoke with Rockstar Games officials today, the company's policy is to not comment on rumors. A source close to Rockstar Games said that the information in the article is definitely not concrete, but is possible.

"We don't really announce the Rockstar games until very close to release, because we don't want anybody copying us," Lapin said in the story.

Of equal interest is that the Rockstar's potential move to put GTA III and GTA: Vice City on Nintendo's GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox. One month after Rockstar publishes the next GTA game (due in 2004) and completes its exclusivity agreement with SCEA, it will publish GTA III and GTA: Vice City on GameCube and Xbox.

We'll have more on these games in the near future.

"OMG GAMECUBE I LOVE IT SO MUCH IT IS SO MUCH BETTER"

Well, first of all, I was just pointing out a comparable game to GTA (True Crime) and interestingly enough I think it will be for all platforms. I didn't know Rippers news in the above post that Rockstar might be crazy enough to release GTA3/VC on the Gamecube. Even so, its stupid because the new GTA game will be out at the same time for the PS2, and GTA3/VC will have been on the value games list for the PS2 for some time.

I must say that Rockstar possibly releasing GTA3/VC on the SUPER KIDDIE Gamecube is a bold move considering how everyone else has been supposedly moving away from putting 3rd party titles on the Cube. I bet if they are decent ports they will probably sell well, but unless they are value priced, Im not going to be dishing out $50 for games that are 2 and almost 1 year old respectively right now (even older in 2004..)

And everyone knows Im the only person that posts on here that is openly pro Gamecube Anti everything else (most especially X Box..). So the fact that I posted in this thread shouldn't seem as a surprise.

see what would be the smartest move in rockstar would add extra little stuff in GTA3 and Vice City for the Cube and X-Box, in order to be different than the PS2.

I'm not really anti-PS2 since I own won...but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happier when games come out for anything else too.

Given the space they have to work with on the GC discs, unfortunately Im thinking they'll be forced to do the opposite..unless they can work out a really good compression scheme between now and then, I think that some things will probably have to get cut.

Theres no reason for the X Box version not to have extra stuff since they have the hard drive, online capabilities and actual dvd media to work with.

Contrary to popular belief, you can actually do more on a Gamecube disc than you can on a Playstation disk. It just that due to the size, the FMV don't read as clear resulting in the slight artifiacts that are present that gaming sites act like are the end all. But as you notice, the in game graphics usually look alot better on the gamecube than they do on the Playstation.

If anybody thinks that the size of the discs is connected to the platform's graphic power he needs a swift kick in the nuts.

Splinter Cell was originally supposed to be an XBOX exclusive. Then they added some stuff and released them on PS2 and GC. This is the same thing with VC so I don't see what Sony has to get all up about.

Cube? =/

They didn't even release State of Emergency on the Cube (and the could have if they wanted) and the Xbox port will just simply be a work of the PC version.

Meanwhile, MarvinisaLunatic declares himself to be..

Why? How do the other machines matter besides exclusives?

Well it does and it doesn't. You can have the most powerful machine there is but if the disc can't hold the information, then you are limited.

I said this about 11 months ago in another thread:

Yes, I used to be the anti X Box, Pro Gamecube pimp of these boards.

I've pretty much cooled down to where I still favor the Cube, but the X Box hate really isn't there like it was 12 months ago. I'm of the opinion that the X Box is clearly the #3 console right now, and while it hasn't killed console gaming, the fact that they need to keep cutting prices and continue to lose 200 bucks a console just to keep competitive is proof enough to me that the Cube is better than the X Box. I will also say that the PS2 will probably remain #1, as it has the biggest library of games and has a variety of different titles to suit just about anyone. But like I said, I would rather have a few must have superior games than a truckload of good/average games since Im not gonna be able to buy a truckload of games, nor will I have time to play a truckload of games..

Back in 2001, when I first started posting on the old version of this board during the pre-X Box launch period, I went off on the X Box for just about every reason imaginable. One of the biggest arguments I had was that between the Hard Drive (turning consoles into PCs with patches/upgrades) and the Microsoft hype machine hyping inferior games to the casual gamer who would then accept the crappy games as standard fare thus lowering the overall quality of games for all consoles. Most other companies would see it as an oppertunity to pump out inferior games and make more money doing so.

Well, I will say that I do believe that the inferior game theory has actually started to happen. You can see it in the fact that some 3rd party games that are crap aren't selling well on the Gamecube like they are on the other 2 consoles. This is do in part to the fact that the 3rd party games are (for the most part) much worse than what Nintendo puts out, but they aren't as bad as whats available for the X Box (and they sell better on the PS2 just because there are more PS2's owners to sell to).

The hard drive theory hasn't panned out yet, but I still don't see why you need a hard drive in a console, just as I don't understand why the Gamecube is inferior because it doesn't have a DVD player. I don't need my video game console to play DVD's, I already have a stand alone DVD player and a DVD player in my computer.

And I do believe that there is more hatred towards the "Super Purple Kiddie Box" then I could ever muster against the X Box. Its not as powerful as the X Box, its too kiddie looking, has a lot of kiddie games..etc. Well Im sorry, but I don't need some people from a company who for 20 years made OS' for computers tell me what makes a good game. I do believe that Nintendo has been making damn good games for the last 20 years, and while their games maybe kiddie or not exciting enough, I still find them entertaining. Excuse me for liking the same boring characters..

I could go on. But I'll stop.
