SEPULTURA: Live Recordings Posted Online - July 15, 2003

 

A SEPULTURA fan site containing a lot of live recordings of the group — of both the audio and video variety — can be accessed at www.sepulive.com.

As previously reported, SEPULTURA have officially inked a North American and Australian deal with SPV/Steamhammer Records.

The Brazilian metallers, who were previously signed to SPV only for the European continent, are expected to release their new album, "Roorback", in the U.S. later in the summer.

The follow-up to 2001's "Nation" was recorded and mixed by producer Steve Evetts (SNAPCASE, EARTH CRISIS) at Mosh Studios in São Paulo, Brazil, and was released in Europe last month through SPV.

SEPULTURA have been nominated for five awards at this year's edition of "MTV Brasil Video Music Awards". The video for "Bullet The Blue Sky" (originally written and recorded by U2) is up for an award in the following categories: "Best Video Editing", "Best Photography", "Best Rock Video" and "Viewers' Choice". In addition, the band's official web site, www.sepultura.com.br, has been nominated in the "Best Web Site" category. The awards presentation will take place in August.

I checked out sepulive.com and there was a bunch of really cool stuff there.

 

I also think it's kind of odd that the guy producing their new album is known for his work with hardcore bands.

Up until Max left the band in 96, Sepultura just might have been one of the best metal bands on earth, with aggression that was near-impossible to match. Afterwards, though, they just completely fell apart and haven't put out anything that even comes close to stuff like Beneath the Remains, Chaos AD, or Schizophrenia.

 

However, they recently released a double live album from their last concert with Max at the helm called Under a Pale Grey Sky. Tremendous album which works as a good overview of their ten years of kicking righteous ass.

New Sepultura isn't Sepultura. It's kinda like Guns N' Roses.

Definitely. And for some strange reason, I kinda enjoy Soulfly. I'm not into any of the numetal bands, but I dig them

Eh, they've got a few good songs, but Primitive is an incredibly bad album, and 3 is just bland and aimless.

 

Max Cavalera is Max Cavalera, though, and they are an excellent live band.

I was never into Soulfly, but I saw them live and they were REALLY REALLY GREAT. I was pleasantly suprised.

I've seen them three times on various tours, and they actually got better every time, adding new elements to their shows, and getting tighter as a band. I have no idea why the studio stuff comes off so bad, but it really does.

 

They have no problem mixing in some old Sepultura, and really infectious tribal drum beats, with interesting instrumentation while playing live. They even make the newer stuff sound pretty decent.
