Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 I myself can hardly wait. It will be a whose who of sports stars, and C list celebrities. That was of course was sarcasm. But for anyone who does enjoy the show. Post your thoughts here. Moving on. Does anyone else hate those ESPY commercials? Especially the Raiders one. Steve Levy doesn't do NFL games. At least make your stupid ads somewhat accurate.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Vern, Michelle Kwan doing the cabbage patch to celebrate the raiders score is what MAKES that commercial the best. I easily prefer it to the Bonds one (why is the guy from the niners wearing a lifevest?) and the Red Sox/Vince Carter one.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 I won't be watching. I hate almost all awards shows.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 The Bonds' espy commercial is my fave. The others are ass. I've never watched or cared about the Espy's. I don't plan on doing so now.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Almost forgot, i'll be watching.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 I think I'll pass as well. I suppose it was a good idea that they picked the single worst day in sports to do it (virtually nothing other than maybe the WNBA or smalltime stuff like that) is happening with the day off for baseball.
Bored Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 This has to be the most pointless award show ever made. In movies the Oscar is the highest honor and in t.v. the Emmy is the highest honor but what athlete really gives a shit if they win an ESPY? I don't think you'll ever hear a player say, "well I didn't win the MVP but I won the ESPY and that is what counts!" Also the only thing that even made the ESPYs worth while when they first started doing it was they'd have people vote on the plays of the year in each sport and they got rid of it! All they have now is the play of the year and three of them are completely pointless (Kobe and LeBron dunks and Bonds homerun).
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Whatever. Last year the Samuel L. Jackson training Derek Jeter as a Jedi was classic. Hitting him ground balls with the light saber...man I laughed really hard.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Every year I forget to watch...and I would tonight if I didn't see this. I'll catch most of it probably

I like the idea of an award show to honor Atheletes and Sports Stars...
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 And this is a good idea for ESPN cause there'd be almost no news to report 2 days after the all star game.
Guest Choken One Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Exactly... All sports are dead at the moment as NO events are happening other then contract signings...(other then WNBA) and Nascar but that's on the weekend... It's the Sports Half-Time
Guest MaxPower27 Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Whatever. Last year the Samuel L. Jackson training Derek Jeter as a Jedi was classic. Hitting him ground balls with the light saber...man I laughed really hard. There was also Samuel playing football with the kids. Kid 1: OK, we're going to run _____ play... Samuel: Hey! Just gimme the damn ball!
Guest Choken One Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Can we get Sam or James wood back pleasE?
Guest Flyboy Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Jaime Fox is annoying. Fuck that. "Can I Be Your Tennis Ball?" was fucking gold.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Jamie Fox was very unfunny. I watched most of it and didn't laugh once. And I loved how they showed so much WNBA in the opening segment even though no one cares for it and the NBA loses money supporting it every season.
Rob E Dangerously Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Nice to see that the Best Bowler and Best Outdoor Athlete got their props on stage with Bonds and Serena
Guest razazteca Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Jaime Fox is annoying. Fuck that. "Can I Be Your Tennis Ball?" was fucking gold. I would like to say that Jamie Fox is one of the worst award show host I have seen this year. Almost as bad as the MTV Movie Award hosts Ashton Kuntcher & Justin Timberlake. Award shows trying to be funny are so overdone now.

Award shows trying to be funny are so overdone now. Agreed. The whole bit with him hitting a hotdog with a baseball bat...where was the joke? Yeah, I know Randall Simon did it, but where was the actual joke in it? And the "jokes" in his opening bit were bad. If he wanted to do something funny he should have ripped on Kobe's case right now...he was front row. Chris rock would of.
Guest razazteca Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Laura Flynn Boyle should of worn a different dress......the tanlines were slightly disturbing.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 I saw Jaime Foxx on Jim Rome's show and they guy was either drunk or high. He gave no coherient answers and would just babble on for a few minutes. On Jimmy Kimmel's show he showed Carmelo Anthony's speech. Pretty funny. That's how would give any exceptance speech I made.
Guest Steve J. Rogers Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 You can tell how meaningless this shit is by the way ESPN Radio's affliate here in NYC, 1050 WEPN's local programing had NO talk about it. With the exceptions of commercials every half hour, a mention during an interview with a broadcaster at a boxing match at the Playboy Mansion and several comments about how the baseball All Stars would be leaving Chi-Town early to be there, there was NO HYPE for it, none, zero, zip! I mean you'd think the Program Director would give some suggestions to the various show's staff that it might be good cross-promotions for the brand name if they had couple of local area nominees on or something, hell even do a special call-in segement called the NYC ESPY's where callers and emailers vote on the nominees But then again, the local shows don't even hype all the X-Games and variations on ESPN Steve
Rob E Dangerously Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Didn't they move the ESPYs from New York to LA? it's either bad planning or bitterness from New York
Guest Steve J. Rogers Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Didn't they move the ESPYs from New York to LA? it's either bad planning or bitterness from New York It was moved years ago, 1050 ESPN Radio here in NYC went on the air in September of 2001 Plus ESPN radio called WFAN an "affiliate" in NYC for their game broadcasts and assorted weekend shows and WFAN never talked it up so NYC has no juice for it anyway Steve
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Seeing as it's a sportshow, why couldn't they have gone to the bullpen for a relief-host when it became so obvious that Foxx was bombing? Worst. Awards-show host. Ever.
Guest razazteca Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 They should put the Greatest Reliever in award show history in there Billy Crystall he is the biggest Yankee fan in the world.
