Bat man: the long halloween

Recommended Posts

Just finished reading the Long Halloween the other day, and I loved every minute of it. Loeb does some great characterization of everyone involved and Sale gives the book a great atmosphere, excelling at illustrating both action and dialogue beautifully.

The mystery is great, with clues being dropped here and there, without being too obvious. Loeb even fits in quite a few sub plots over the course of the thirteen issues, giving the story depth without making it seem bloated, and makin the climax seem like a real payoff. Every character, from Jim Gordon to the Roman to Gilda Dent, is given a purpose and comes across very well, without overshadowing the Dark Knight.

This one is highly reccomended for any Bat Man or mystery fan who might have missed it, as I did, the first time around. At 13 issues, the price tag seems more than fair, and if nothing else, it's a nice companion to Miller's and Mazzuchelli's definitive Bat Man work while being it's own story.
