Pro Wrestling Degrades Amateur Wrestling?

-Brock Lesnar says Pro Wrestling Degrades Amateur Wrestling! Torch subscriber and VIP member Brady Olsen writes: "I found it pretty funny. I was cleaning my room, and was looking at some old magazines. The June 2000 issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids caught my eye because it had a picture of Goldberg and Scott Steiner on the cover. The article asked if pro wrestling was a real sport or not. As I was flipping through, the magazine asked amateur wrestlers the question. On the top of the list was a picture of Brock Lesnar. He said, "Calling pro wrestling a sport is degrading to amateur wrestlers because of the hard work we put into our sport." The irony in that was hilarious. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Didn't Kurt Angle say soemthing along those lines as well pre-WWF?

I don't know what to make of this.

Just an ill-informed opinion. I'm sure he'd look back and laugh at how ignorant he was.

To be fair, that interview was probably conducted before Brock became a pro wrestler. Most amateur wrestlers seem to feel that way because they don't realize how much work goes into becoming a pro wrestler.

I think that even Kurt Angle once said the same thing that Brock said. I vaguely remember Angle mentioning that he turned down a WWF contract in 1996, because he didn't want to jeopardize his credibility as a legitimate wrestler.

I'm sure he realizes now how much hard work it takes to be a pro wrestler, but he still might think it's not proper to call it a sport.

If I recall Lesnar had to twist Benjamin's arm to convince him that Pro Wrestling wasn't an Insult...
