Guest Steve J. Rogers Report post Posted July 18, 2003 BTW, Sault you're way too bitter about Griffey refusing to sign with the Yankees. I don't hold a grudge against Bernie for the shit he pulled against the Red Sox a few years ago. But you can have your inury prone and overpaid centerfielder and the Reds can have their's. Difference is, since the Williams contract he has done well for the Yanks, okay maybe not enough to deserve his contract but he still puts up great numbers Not to mention 2 championships and 4 postseason apperances
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 18, 2003 BTW I can't believe I'm hearing people say it was a disgrace that fans in Cincy booed him when he limped off the deal. I mean give me a break A) The guy came in as the "greatest active player" had one very decent season but the last three years have been injury riddled and certaintly not worth his lofty contract, which intrestingly enough was considered "cheap" at the time B) The guy has not been the "great guy" that he seemed to be in Seattle. No smiles, no laughing, no fun loving act. Its been surlyness, bitter interviews, being considered a cancer in the clubhouse, a "24 and 1" guy and this is his home town for crying out loud C) Considering that the Mariners have contended for the postseason every year since, not to mention having one of the greatest single seasons of all-time, and the Reds since playing in a Wild Card Play-In Game in 1999 fell off the radar in the same timespan, now you can say the same thing for say A-Rod's Rangers but it does say something when in 2001 the Mariner GM says he wouldn't trade Mike Cammeron BACK to the Reds for Griffey Jr. I swear some radio hosts just have no clue about situations and just say things without checking all the facts BTW this was Yankee announcer Michael Kay who just may be the biggest player kiss-uper in the NYC market Because we're not talking about some lazy bum half-assing it for his big contract. Griffey tried hard to come back from serious injury, and he hurt himself again. He's certainly not trying to hurt himself, its just that this shit happens. If anything, these kind of injuries would indicate that Griffey's trying too hard to come back. When healthy, he played well in his first two seasons with the Reds. And if Griffey retired TODAY, I'd put him in the HOF.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted July 18, 2003 I don't follow NFL is close, but is Terrell Davis (or whatever the Broncos guy was) a fair comparison? No. Davis won championships...
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 19, 2003 So what? Championships aren't the end all of a player's career.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 19, 2003 Luc Longley won a fucking Championship... Championships doesn't measure talent and legacny.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted July 19, 2003 Luc wasn't the Go-to guy on his team. Griffey is (or should I say, was). Oh, and tell that Jim Kelly and Fran Tarkenton...

Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 19, 2003 And if Griffey retired TODAY, I'd put him in the HOF. Ditto. I don't even think a serious argument can be made to keep him out. He seems to have problems with muscles and tendons. Maybe this offseason, instead of focusing on weight training, he should center his regimen around flexibility. He's past his prime now, so he's probably not as limber and quick as he used to be. Improving flexibility is still possible, though, and it might save him some more injuries. He doesn't need to get any stronger.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted July 20, 2003 Perhaps moving him to left/right field would help as well?...
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 20, 2003 Possibly and Kearns can Play Center with ease so that Might be option to check out in the Spring Training session. I doubt Junior will be pleasant about changing his position but if it gets him on a consistentcy with out injury...He'll fucking play Short Stop if he must... Amazing...At the start of the season...4 players were banging on #500 (Sosa, Palamerio, Junior and McGriff) Junior and McGriff caught the Injury bug and Sosa's momentous milestone has VASTLY be overshadowed by CORKGATE 2003...Palamerio was famous for a week and people went back to not knowing who the hell the guy was besides being The Viagra guy... I don't see ANY arguement AGAINST junior in the HOF today. I'm sure he wishes he could've gone in with #30 however... In hindsight...The reds were Smart to Keep Gillien from the Trade Block because Modern Reds History shown that at LEAST one Reds Outfielder will suffer a long term injury... Junior is still a threat at the Plate but it seems as of late...you force the guy to move...He falls and quivers like a Mass of Jello. Didn't he play on Turf for his entire career? That easily could have been a crucial element to his continous injury rate...(the transition to Grass)
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted July 20, 2003 Well, I can't believe this Griffey starts to get hot, just like in Spring Training, and then gets injured again. When will this stop? I don't agree with the fans booing him, but I think everyone here is frustrated (to put it mildly). They keep talking about trading him here on talk radio, but it would sting if he went to another team and lit it up like the Griffey of old.
